We actually did talk about this but that might have been when we were not recording (we did a whole 5-10 minutes of stuff in the middle and then noticed it wasn't recording) or Sal may have cut it due to time constraints. This was already a long episode. There is also a great tangent about the cosmic treadmill which didn't make the episode but which I hope Sal will put in an episode of tangents

I love how Captain America and Superman tell each other what they think of the others universe. Superman was all like you guys suck at being superheros and Captain America was all like you guys are just wannabe gods that need the people to love you guys.

And it’s true the Dc hero’s act like they are gods I mean there are like five different earths where the league goes evil and takes over the world lol injustice bring the most well known of those.
Superman should have thrown Hawkeye at the sphere-thing with Hawkeye screaming "not like this, not like this!!!" But right before impact he yells "Like this! Yeahhhhhh!!!!"

Be careful what you wish for....
This is the best cross over and was worth the wait. Perez drew the hell out of it and Busiek wrote a story that had tons of great fan service moments without making one team look better than the other. If you don't regularly read superhero comics the plot and rules of the game can have you thinking wtf, but this is pure old school, fun, light hearted comics at their best.
My favorite part is when they see each others worlds:
Superman- So much death and chaos and they don't do anything.
Cap- They beleave themselves gods, demanding worthship.
And, on the Superman-Thor fight, when Superman stops Mjolnir "In my world, lives matter!!!"
This title is deserving of a Back Issues Reboot. Give it the 2hr treatment and gush over all the fly stuff inside. RIP George Perez ,shout out to Busiek

I'm disapointed that you mentioned the Hercules vs Wonder Woman and didn't explain it more, sure is not really relevant but is seriously the funniest part of the entire event IMO, I really wish to see how Ben specially reacted to it

@@koushikraja331 Also, something that looks awesome, but a lot scarier: Darkseid with the Infinity Gauntlet. And he couldn't tap into it because they were in the DC Universe.
Also: The Avengers dealing with the DC citizens.
You goofed on this book a lot, and it certainly is silly, but it's also a really fantastic piece. Busiek and Perez have a grand old time referencing as many things as they can. There's a lot of little clever plot points and character interactions. It's messy and imperfect, like any clashing of these two universes would be, but it's an obvious labor of love which you'd expect from a continuity whore like Kurt Busiek. It's also great that they're not afraid to throw in jabs at the more awkward moments in these character's histories. Like you said it's printed nostalgia and it's just a whole lot of fun. It doesn't have any pretensions of being a high-brow work of art and it's not a cynical cash grab like Marvel vs. DC was. I love it.

It's really hard to choose who would win: the JLA and the Avengers have always been a pretty OP team that deals with the most OP bullshit ever, from alien invasions, to wars between gods and even reality warping disasters. I wanna say the JLA because I like them more, but I can't say for sure that they'd win; the Avengers are ridiculously powerful, too.

Are you referring to the Teen Titans Vs. X-Men comic where they fight Darkseid and Dark Phoenix? I loved that one, my dad had it when I was a kid.

Kinda dissapointed that you skipped one of the most conceptually scary scenes in the comic: Darkseid with the Infinity Gauntlet. Thankfully, the Gems didn't work due to not being in the Marvel Universe at that time.
I believe I already said this at another time but I feel that this crossover was some sort of prelude to Infinite Crisis. Think about it: a hero from one Earth berating the heroes of another for not having enough ideals, Earths being smushed together/pushed apart by gigantic cosmic hands, etc.
Actually, one can wonder what would have happened if Superboy-Prime stumbled his way into this crossover...

I'll go with the Avengers on this one. The team I'll pick is Hickman's team during the Infinity storyline cause he loaded it with a bunch of heavy hitters.
as much as i like marvel and the avengers, if it was avengers vs JLA , the JLA would win
they have superman, he is basically a god who walks among men. he can move at speeds the flash can, he's more intelligent than anyone due to his kryptonian physiology, almost indestructable, a wide array of powers (including lethal karaoke)
and his only weakness is pretty much the rarest substance in the universe (irradiated pieces of a destroyed planet)
o_o Wouldn't Doctor Strange or Scarlet Witch be an issue for Supes since he doesn't deal with magic very well?
Have to point out that Thor is also a god who walks among men. Also as we've talked about on the show before, Superman is not as fast as Flash, but both are on JLA so between the two of them yeah it's hard to imagine Avengers coming out on top. Then again as ONmedz points out Avengers have Wanda and her "chaos" magic so you never know...
@@ryebreadreturn1 But the JLA have Wonder Woman who's a demi god with powers of the Greek deities. Zatanna whose the second greatest magic user in DC, Flash who can't be out run by anyone - Marvel or DC, and Superman to counter the he heavy hitters - Hulk and Thor. Together can beat Marvel's Avengers.
Now i want a Batman/Hawkeye teamup :/
That would be awesome to see. They could switch sidekicks for a while too. Kate bishop works with batman and Damian works with Clint.

As I was watching this I was thinking back to other "real" and pseudo Jla/Avengers type issues. In my opinion, these are must have books: The Avengers (Vol.3) #5 - #6 + Annual (Battle Royale and teamup with Squadron: Busiek and Perez books #5-6 are a warmup for Jla/Avengers) - The Avengers (Vol.1) The Serpent Crown saga TPB (#141- #149 Battle Royale with Squadron: All iisues Perez) - The Defenders (Vol.1) #112 - #114 (Lots of Avengers vs Squadron and revealing a complete Jla origin feel to Sqaudron) and lastly Unlimited Access #2 - #4 (This is the first official meeting/fighting/and teamup of the Jla and Avengers).

Which team will win and why.
Well, if you add the Scarlet Witch, then the Avengers will win. If not, I'd say the original JLA, mainly because of the Flash

I’m surprised this comic isn’t being given the “BIG CROSSOVER EVENT” treatment. Seriously, how is this not being sold like gangbusters?! This should be the biggest seller right now, but everyone I talk about the existence of this comic are either disbelieving it is real or are bummed out about how expensive it is to get.
I managed to get mine used for a little over a $100 (hey, still in good enough condition that justifies itself more the $200 or $300 for new) on Amazon.
Also, fun fact, this comic is technically canon in the DC universe. I doubt it is in the New 52 but no one considers that canon anyway sooooo....
Maybe it's not what you meant but just to be clear,The Uncanny X-Men who teamed with the New Teen Titans were not teenagers. Cyclops,Jean Grey,Storm,Colossus,Nightcrawler,Wolverine and Professor Xavier were all adults at this point. Kitty Pryde was the only teen. They crossed over simply because they were the two best or most popular teams at the time.

Viewership varies from one week to the next, but on average it is increasing. The number of subscribers is also steadily increasing. It's kind of blowing my mind.

The JLA would win just based on DC's tendency to set their characters' "power level" way higher than Marvel sets their chracters'. It's not a Fanboy opinion based argument, it's just reality.

Did no one notice the fifth member of comic pop? he was pretty silent so it's understandable but if you look closely you may notice James the gourd who wears cool sunglasses sitting upon the table.
Grant Morrison should show up at Marvel and ask "why does Galactus suck?" "Why does he get his ass kicked by everybody?" The Beyonder(Inhuman???) kicked his ass, Franklin Richards(mutant) made him his bitch, Thanos(Titan) stomped him with the Infinity Gaunlet, Reed Richards(human) scared him off with the Ultimate Nullifier, Krona(Oan) murdered and mind-raped him, etc. Shouldn't he be more of a badass?
I think the problem is that Galactus is way OP, so if he doesn't get defeated he would just either eat Earth and end the book or stop the bad guys immediately and end the book. I think they need to just stop using him for a while cuz the more they use him the more he's gonna have to get beat down.
Well when he shows up to eat planets which the Writers say is pretty common now, he is at his weakest, so him battling against earth's heroes he isn't his strongest. Against everyone else on that cosmic level... he is the weakest or one of the weakest, due to his constant fluctuations in power.
It takes a lot of the "Oh shit, it's Galactus" out of the the stories. Now I would definitely say Oh shit it's Ultron to the new Avengers 2 trailer. It's Awesome!!!!!

Hi Sal,Ethan and Ben. Watched this again. Ethan questioning everything is hilarious. A lot of the story is done in the service of those who enjoy something like tributes to continuity. Exp:Hal Jordan Spectre separating the worlds which is something the Jim Corrigan Spectre had done in the past. Hawkeye winning the day goes back to him out tricking the Gamesmaster more than once in Avengers. And so on.
Ethan at the Krona becoming an egg and may give birth to a universe after trying to figure out how and why a universe is born:"I don't get it." It's called irony. Hope that doesn't sound jerk-ish just think that's what they were going for.
Have to disagree though that Batman "fighting" Captain America was "cool." It was not. It was lame.
Which team would win? The Justice League. More often than not their main team is over powered. Morrison's run was great but would have to go with the large,family like "Satellite Era" team.

DC would win and my team would be Batman, Dr. Fate, Barry Allen Flash, Kyle Rainer Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and pre-52 Green Arrow. Batman would be the brains, Dr. would be there in case of Dr Strange, Barry Allen and Green Arrow would be ground team, Kyle Rainer would be back up muscle to Wonder Woman.
I was reading comics back in the mid-80's, where both Julius Schwartz and Jim Shooter were giving their sides of the story of the much-lauded Avengers/JLA mini series, with each blaming the other. I was inclined to believe DC's story, as Jim Shooter seemed to be a dickhead, and I'd just discovered Alan Moore's Swamp Thing. But the guy in the middle of it all was poor George Perez, that era's Jim Lee. He'd already pencilled I don't know how many pages, and the readers feeling like they'd been given an enema with a baseball bat, and broken glass.
But...there must be two George Perez's working at DC. The one around at that time was drawing DC's X-Men, The New Teen Titans, Crisis On Infinite Earths, and fill-in jobs on other titles. The art was incredibly detailed (I used to love those cityscapes), and it was even better when he inked his own work, as in the '84 version of the New Teen Titans. It was only for the first two issues, but what the hell - it was George Perez, right (except when they let Mike DeCarlo ink his work - a bit like pissing on the Mona Lisa)? I stopped buying comics until 2005, checking out comics on Ebay, or Mile High Comics. And there was George Perez drawing the Titans again! I got as many issues as I could, and saw another Avengers/JLA mini series, and I thought this must finally be the mythical book spoken of, back in the 80's.

When I finally got them, I had to check out the art, and thought "What the eff is this?!?" Well, it was printed on very nice paper, Marv Wolfman tried his best on the Titans, but the Avengers/JLA issues were utter shite. I could not believe Perez drew this childish crap, and Kurt Busiek was depressingly boring and juvenile
Maybe it was one of those clone-thingies of Perez...but I doubt it. It was a bloody shame. Is all of Perez's stuff of this quality? Where the hell have the old school artists gone? Now, I just buy back issues of The Uncanny X-Men. It's safer that way, and a damn good investment, too. I bought a copy of X-Men #109 ( first app. of Vindicator) on Ebay that was at least VF, for $15! Yoink!

And also, can you explain what the heck each individual in these videos is doing? Like it comes off as the guy in the middle is the nerdy comic book guy and he's explaining each comic book to his two friends that don't know ANYTHING about super heroes. but then they'll ask something really specific and its just weird. Like this:
Dude in Middle: OK, so Batman is this billionaire that is a vigilante and he lives by his own code but never kills anyone.
Dude on Left: Whoa, that's cool. Do people know his identity?
Middle: No.
Left: Hey, what did you think of Millar's take on Dark Knight returns? I thought it was a really pivotal moment in the DC Universe because it uses a dark tone but doesn't overdo it while still emphasizing the duality between Batman and Bruce Wayne.
Believe it or not, we have these discussions often on, as well as off, the camera. It's actually the impetus behind the show itself. The two never read comics growing up, but it's not like they aren't aware of them.
Has there been a video of Gambit's betrayal?
For a Justice League vs Avengers Showdown I would unfortunately have to say that I think that the JL would win. I am more of a Marvel fan, but Superman, Wonder Woman, and Martian Manhunter are all just too overwhelmingly powerful. And that's not even counting the ridiculousness that is the Flash or the power and versatility of Green Lantern.

Supes - Hulk
Bats - Capt. In a pure fist fight Capt wins but the bats have more tricks up his sleeves
WW - Thor. Greek goddess vs Norse god; Fucking awesome
GL - Ironman. Mainly because these two have this 'cocky, jerky but lovable personality'
Flash - QuickSilver. Olympic athletes race much?
Aquaman - Namor OR Wolverine. Personally I like Wolverine more but Namor has similar power to Aquaman
MM - Vision. Well, they both have this collar-cape.
Green Arrows - Hawkeye
Black Canary - Black widow. the greatest catfight of all time
Nightwing - Spiderman. They're both acrobatic
