  • Many years after losing his spleen in an accident, Peter suffered a critical infection. Peter spent a prolonged time in ICU, but the infection meant he had both his hands amputated and a below knee amputation. In 2011, Peter became the first person in Australia to receive a hand transplant. He is an avid supporter of the work of Spleen Australia. People living without a functioning spleen have a lifelong risk of life-threatening infections.
