  • My workbench has been a right mess for the last few months. So I've got some HobbyZone modular organisers to sort things out. Here's a link if you're interested. bit.ly/2TTsqfp

    Your diesels are never boring. I started watching your channel many years ago at uni when I was model railwayless. Two years ago I was employed to run and maintain a large model railway in the South West and decided for practical purposes and from inspiration from your channel to re set it in the 1980's. It pained me when you took out the original layout, but best of luck with you're new layout. Most exciting times!

    Wow, I was amazed when the steamer showed up and the music came on! I kind of got mesmerized and I didn't even notice the black and white until you brought it all to a screeching halt! Holy smokes! What was I even thinking?!!! I reckon I wasn't thinking! I should have known better! Lol! The storage is great though! Cheers, Dan

    Super start! That’s how we (of a certain age) rocked! The 60s were a thousand times more exciting than the millennium! “Hey there, Georgie Girl” being a huge hit! Anyroad, we moved with the times and here we are watching someone else in another part of the Country (and World) doing the thing that brings us together - hobbies. Carry on, some of us will be leaving it all behind soon! Cheers, enjoy.

    Georgy Girl nice touch. Being Australian and a child of the sixties. I remember the Seekers song Georgie Girl from the Michael Caine film of the same name.

    • @ralphwest8156
      @ralphwest8156 4 года назад

      The film you are referring to is the 1966 movie starring Lyn Redgrave, based on the novel by Margaret Forster and was directed by Silvio Narizzano. Not Michael Caine - unless he directed the more recent re-make.

    • @loubrewer8228
      @loubrewer8228 4 года назад

      Better late than never - was just revisiting this vid and decided to read comments. My first reaction was also Michael Caine. So to prove me right, I looked up on IMDB. Wrong! Michael Caine was in "Alfie," also released in 1966. Time flies, takes memory with it.

    It's a lovely system and well worth the extra few pennies. I've been using it for a few months now, as my update video from last week mentioned. Just as well I didn't release my video on building it this week too, else it'd have been me, you and Charlie all doing videos on the same thing in less than 7 days! Lol 😜

    There is something very satisfying about storage, especially modular storage systems - appeals to my OCD! Great videography at the beginning as well - those shots of the Black 5 pulling those Mk1s around that sweeping curve, and tracking shots, were really impressive.

    The only thing I'd be concerned about is the fact that I've got several paints of the same colour, and I'd prefer a rack style system so I could see how much of a particular colour I had at any one time, and, then on the next visit to the hobby shop, restock appropriately. Does look really nice though, hopefully an Australian stockists gets on board with this as postage, and import taxes can push the price up quite significantly for us here in the colonies.

    The storage system looks really very smart indeed.
    At an absolute guess, they left the stop off so folks like me can remove the drawers entirely when rummaging - I concede that they could have put them in the box and left it up to the end user though.
    As always, thanks for a cracking video.

    just a idea for you, put something under those organisers, like a kick board because it wont take you long to load up your bench with junk and then wont be able to slide out the bottom draws without things in the way.

    Seems to me that putting one’s with stuff you need near the layout on the top would allow you to take one or two and put them on a trolley where you are working. Also, small rubber feet or pads on the bottom would help when using the boxes “in the wild”. Easy enough to drill a small relief on the top of the boxes corresponding to where the feet are mounted to let the boxes stack flush and it would increase the interlocking of the stack as well. I’m not a fan of raw MDF due to its desire to soak up any spills. I would probably spray the lot before white before assembly. White inside boxes helps with visibility in the boxes.
    I agree that a draw stop would help. Often you can slightly round the back bottom side of such drawers so that gravity and draw sag keeps them in when they are against the stop but lifting the front of the draw will allow removal.
    Thanks for the review it has given me plenty of ideas. I’m unlikely to buy them as MDF is weighty and postage to Australia on top means adapt and adopt for me.

    You might want to consider moving the drawers up away from the desktop and using shelves on the bottom. Pulling the drawers open will reduce your workspace by the length of the drawer. You dont want to have to move a delicate model just to open a drawer.

    • @tomlawton7087
      @tomlawton7087 5 лет назад

      Anon
      You beat me to it. Either the long thin drawers, so only one is blocked by the workspace, or as you say, shelves.
      Perhaps even a stand-off, so no usable space, but no fouling at all.
      For the paint racks, can you read the labels in the rack?
      I also wonder about frequency of use (at the workbench). How often do you use track-laying gear at the workbench? Or decoders?
      Seems like this needs to have the immediate workbench tools to hand.
      But I like the storage. In terms of bang-per-buck, less than 3 gbp per drawer is good for larger (stock storage), and the fussy ones depend on what you’re trying to fit in.
      Thanks for the demo.

    They do look good, and if they come from Hattons are guaranteed to be good quality. However the whole reason for your new layout is MDF when it gets damp. IKEA do a very similar thing made from 6mm ply. Which is going to free of the famous MDF curves.

    Nice video and a great product.
    As always, when trying to get my hands on products like this (or anything else) the cost of postage will double the cost of the product.
    Re your suggestion about the stop blocks in the drawers, I would suggest that its not worth the effort because sometimes it may be best to remove the drawer to access the content in which case the stop would be required to be retractable. More engineering = greater cost. As you say, if you want drawer stops you can add them yourself, if you think it is worth the effort.
