Fun fact about the Blues Brothers, the mall they went crashing through was a failed mall that was basically closed at the time of filming, the cars in the parking lot were all planted, and nearly every storefront was fake. The Toys R Us was a Walgreens originally, but Walgreens had just finished moving out since the mall had, well failed, and didn't want to be involved in the movie. Pretty much immediately after filming, the mall was shuttered and left completely abandoned. It had no utilities or security, so it deteriorated, was vandalized, looted, and a haven for crime. So many fantastic movies😁Trading Places,Planes,Trains and Automobiles,Coming to America,Big,ClueNaked Gun,,Ghostbusters,Beetlejuice,Airplane. Back to the Future is legendary!😁Great, epic.Enjoyment! Excellent video! 😁
@JJnieves81 Yeah that’s a bit strange, but I mean An American Werewolf In London wasn’t on there either but I think many get confused with what genre it is, Beverly Hills Cop should not be really the case, Coming To America was groundbreaking which is why maybe they put it on the list.
This list could easily be a list of the best comedies ever, not just in the 80's. This is basically a list of must watch movies for everyone. I miss John Candy he was so good in everything he did ❤️
"Big" was one of many body swap comedies which came out in 1987/1988, but is still fondly remembered today. It's likely a combination of Tom Hanks' winning, convincingly performance as a child in a adult's body, the famous piano scene, or shaking up the typical body swap formula by merely showing the story through one perspective, not two. As he matures, the adults around him rediscover their inner children.
People who find Big 'problematic' are the people that really enjoy being recreationally outraged. I think the movie shows (in addition to your points) that being serious and losing that inner child does not always equate to happiness. All the adults that are around Hanks' character grow and learn to hang on to a tiny bit of that child in them.
Fun video ! Some of these felt more like adventure or family movies than comedies. Let's say that walking in an old video store, I would not have aimed for the comedy section to pick em up :)
I thought it was going to be "Life of Brian" at #1 until I realzed it was released in late 1979. To most people, that movie is (in practice) an 80's film. No complaints about "Back To The Future," but I do object to Goonies outranking Bill and Ted - bogus dudes!
20 is too short a list. I wasn't expecting some of my obscure favorites like Gods Must Be Crazy, Amazon Women on the Moon or Midnight Madness but you don't have Beverly Hills Cop, Fletch, or even Dirty Rotten Scoundrels on this list.
Personally, I'd agree with three quarters of this list for my own. Police Academy, Cannonball Run would be on my list, as well as Beverly Hills Cop, Mannequin, and Smokey and the Bandit 2. I'd also include a little-known and underrated film called High Spirits (starring Peter O'Toole and Steve Gutenberg). I remember watching it at the cinema and it's been one of my favourites ever since.
Some of the jokes feel dated nowadays, but the movies are still hilarious. "Clue" is probably my favourite, and so far, only, movie based on a board game. Plus, we get to choose from three endings.
I love Clue! My favorite bit is the multiple endings when it was in theaters. You didn't see all 3. They randomly chose one for each screening. So people would be confused when talking to each other about it.
@@jonmendelson1104 Yeah I left that one of my list because of the timing. Just wasnt sure. Personally, I thought Clue was a mediocre at best movie, and the multiple endings didnt work then (among most people at the time) and rarely does. Anyone watch Bandersnatch? Interesting how a lot of these classic comedies aren’t that funny to me now. I find them charming and well put together for the most part but less laugh out loud funny then I remember. Not a criticism as I mean that there’s a lot more than pure comedy to admire in a lot of these films. A lot of great acting, writing, directing and editing….with funny bits in.
