    Performer, choreographer and director, Gene Kelly. Genius. So far ahead of his time and, now, a legend.

    With so much energy in Gene Kelly's dancing, I forgot how exhausting it was to see the whole of Invitation To The Dance.

    Watching this makes me sad knowing how under appreciated and misunderstood animation is by a lot of people. Especially who’s what’s been happening recently.

      Unfortunately MGM put this movie on the shelf for far too long. By the time they released it, some similar material had been presented on TV. They never thought it would make money, and by holding on to it so long, that became a self fulfilled prophesy. Better promotion and distribution would have helped a lot.

    This is a wonderful piece. It was animated by MGM as part of the movie “invitation to the dance” The movie was made in 1952 or so but not released till 1956 because MGM hated the film. It lost $2.5 million at the box office, and was the poorest performer for MGM that year, considering it had a $3 million budget. The reviews were negative but it seems to have gained a cult following since. The movie has no dialogue and a few dance sequences. Kelly did not want to even appear in the film, but was forced to by MGM.

      @flamingvans1135 9 месяцев назад

      @@generalgrievous3731 Just because he directed it didn't mean he had to appear in front of the camera. I have an idea why MGM execs hated the Sinbad segment. Gene Kelly, the all-American hero, dancing with a brown-skinned Arab girl, even a cartoon one? At that time, no -- just no. 1952 was four years before Nat King Cole's neighbors in Hancock Park burned the "N" word into his front lawn with fertilizer, so that's the world "Invitation to the Dance" was being made in, and the reason the movie wasn't released until 1957, playing the art house circuit..

    I find myself agreeing with Betsy Blair that this segment could have been even better if Carol Haney actually appeared in human form, rather than the animated avitar. But good dance overall.

    Examine the current state of the world. 2 Timothy 4:1-5 states "You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. People will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!" Jesus is coming back. Are you ready?
