Cook the patty with sliced onions, grilling the onions; when you turn over the hamburger, add the Swiss cheese to the top of the burger and melt it. I love that you tried this, I recommended it but I’m sure many others did too. I agree about the poached egg with avocado! The way you sliced it is fine but an easier way is to slice it in the skin and then use a tablespoon to scoop it out. For anyone feeling avocado is bland, make sure it is ripe enough (so important) and has salt. I thought you made this perfectly, would love it on the sourdough. Mr. H should try it in more things, goes well in many different sandwiches, salads, toasts, breakfasts, burritos, and more. You can also save the pit and grow an avocado plant from it using toothpicks and a glass of water. My mom always did that with me and I think Elana would love to watch that pit split and grow a cute little sprout out of it. Thank you for the video 😊

    Avacados are from Mexico. They are pretty mainstream now in the United States.

    • @luminiferous1960
      @luminiferous1960 12 дней назад +6

      Avocados are grown not only in Mexico, but also in the United States in California, Florida, and Hawaii, and in other countries such as Colombia, Peru, Dominican Republic, Kenya, Indonesia, Brazil, and Ethiopia.
      Mexico leads the way globally in both the production and export of avocados, with more than 2.5 million metric tons produced per year which represents around 30% of world production. Columbia is in second place and produces about 1.1 million metric tons of avocados per year.
      Combined, Columbia, Peru and the Dominican Republic produce about 2.7 million metric tons of avocados, which is just a little more than produced in Mexico.

      Avocado is supposedly a based on a Nahuatl word for testicle. Or vice versa.

    • @luminiferous1960
      @luminiferous1960 12 дней назад +1

      @ Yes, from the Spanish mispronunciation of the Nahuatl word āhuacatl which was their word for both the fruit and testicles.
      Scholars think the Nahua chose the name because the fruit has a shape suggestive of a testicle and was considered an aphrodisiac. The Nahua probably used the anatomical definition as slang, like how we might use “nuts” today, according to Nahuatl scholar Magnus Pharao Hansen, PhD.
      When the Spanish conquistadors came, they translated the word as aguacate, referring only to the fruit without knowing the double meaning of the original Nahuatl word according to Mesoamerican language specialist Frances Karttunen, PhD. The word aquacate only means avocado in Spanish.
      The United States imported the fruits, but they were a tough sell because Americans had a hard time saying the word. Marketers tried using “avagato pear” which over time was simplified to avocado.

      @ That sounds like my experience with tomatoes when I was growing up in Virginia, except it was my family that had a vegetable garden every year and was giving away tomatoes to our relatives, neighbors, and my parents co-workers even though we ate and canned as many as we could for ourselves. My mother's parents also always had a vegetable garden and they lived only a 20 minute drive from us. They were competition in giving away excess tomatoes to our relatives.
      We had enough canned tomatoes to make it through the cold months without buying them from the store. In fact, we hardly ever bought any vegetables at the store at all because we canned and froze vegetables from our garden as well as eating them fresh in season.
      Just about the only vegetable that we usually bought from the store in the cold months was lettuce that was shipped from California or Florida, and we grew lettuce in our garden the rest of the months.

    The expression "you saved my bacon" is used in America, at least in my generation (I'm 64) and where I grew up in Virginia.
    I've noticed that many words and expressions that are still currently used in the UK were used in the US in the '60s through the '80s, but started dwindling in usage in the US in the '90s and are not used by Millennials, Gen Z or Gen Alpha in the US.
    I've also noticed that some words and expressions still used in the UK are also still used in some regions of the US, but not in others.
    Given the much larger land area and population size of the US compared to the UK, it is no wonder that there should be greater generational and regional diversity in usage of English expressions and words that are more commonly used throughout the UK.

It’s _your_ sandwich, experiment until you find what _you_ like best! Add ham and/or turkey, you’ve got a club sandwich. Add avocado, a BLAT. Add a fried egg, a BELT. Try ‘em with cheese, fried green tomatoes, maybe pickle slices… even lobster!! Mmmm.

    We usually call it a BLT-A. I've never heard it called a BLAT. When I put avocado, I usually mash it and spread it on like I do the mayo. A BLT is also really good with a fried egg on it, and maybe a slice of cheese.

    Chicken salad sandwich! Dice up chilled cooked chicken breast, add lots of choped green onion, Almond slivers or slices and a generous amount of black pepper. Add enough mayo to coat but not too much that is "wet" refrigerate or use right away. Serve on a bun , roll or in a wrap 🥰 I'm sure you'll love it

    Ok, you have been comparing different versions of the BLT. In Tucson AZ there is a sandwich shop called Baggin's that makes a "California BLT" - 12 grain bread spread with cream cheese then avacado, bacon, lettuce, tomato and egg salad. Really, there are hundreds of great American sandwiches. Please keep exploring, your content is wonderful and thank you for all your hard work.

    oh the asmr of Mr.H's first bite of the sour dough. pro tip: to cut down on a few carbs replace the mayo on one slice of bread with the avocado(yes you can spread avocado like mayo). I'm from Florida so i say leave those Haas golf balls at the store and get green avocados they are much bigger and taste better. and lastly i like just sliced tomato, mayo, salt and pepper on white bread its my favorite sammich

    In the US, the main type of mayo we have is called "Best Foods Mayo", but it is not a thing that is allowed in our household. We use Miracle Whip, which is basically the same thing, but w/ added paprika for some extra tangy-ness. That bacon looked perfectly cooked. I only realized watching this vid that I've never had sliced avocado in my entire 44 years on this planet, only have had it as the best condiment ever created, guacamole, which I eat ALL the time. Keep up the great content ya'll. BTW, I tend to prefer potato bread instead of white bread, and sourdough is too tough for my preference.

    I have not seen you try any traditional breakfast sandwiches yet. Perhaps you could try your hand at some traditional breakfast grab and go sandwiches that are a staple across the country. There are the bacon, fried egg and cheddar on a hard roll in the New England area. You could also do it with ham or a sausage patty. The bread can also be switched out for toasted white bread, toasted English Muffins, a bagel, a biscuit (think burger sized) or a croissant. There is also the toasted bagel with cream cheese and lox (not my personal choice but a favorite of many). Then you could also do a sausage biscuit...a fresh hot biscuit slathered with butter and...wait for it...JAM with a nice spicy sausage patty on top. Do a western egg sandwich of fried eggs on a roll with ham, onions and bell peppers or even just do it with the eggs, onions and pepper. My grandfather loved a fried egg sandwich with peppers, onions and a thick sliced of fried bologna on it!

    Finally. Where I am from in Los Angeles it is just called a California BLT. Hass avocados is a brand that originates in California and considered the best.
    The avocado is one of the most nutrient packed things you can eat. On that sandwich it has the most good things for you and the tomato next. The bacon is actually bad for you and makes the sandwich unhealthy. But they are good.
    A healthier version in the U.S. is turkey, avocado with lettuce and tomato. You could add bacon if you like and most of the time it is put on a sub roll or you can do wheat or white sliced bread. You could toast it if you want.
    Sea salt and fresh ground pepper should always be added to any food to make them taste the best. I like to put Lawry's seasoning on some things. It goes well on anything.😁

    • @jimleinonen7096
      @jimleinonen7096 10 дней назад

    I love a BLT with avocado. Although a BLT is delicious as-is, I also like to use it as a base to experiment with other ingredients. Some that I've found work well (although not necessarily at the same time) are: sauteed mushrooms, sliced peperoncini / banana peppers, salsa, or barbecue sauce. You can add cheese, such as cheddar, mozzarella, smoked gouda, pepper jack, or swiss (emmental). You can also substitute Thousand Island salad dressing for mayo, although you have to be careful not to use too much or it can overpower the flavor of the rest of the sandwich.
    By the way, the bacon was perfect. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
