I went from zero IT experience to desk top support to sys admin in 9 months. My biggest piece of advice would be to start a home lab and just stay learning anything and everything you can. Also mention your home lab in the interview. My boss told me that's what put me over the top. Hoping to transition to cyber security one day
@bugaboojones9360 What home projects would you recommend to place on resume to get a help desk job? Also, how did you go from the help desk to the sys admin? Is that the tier 3 help desk role?
Probably the best podcast I’ve seen about becoming a SOC analyst. I’m working the helpdesk right now and pushing myself hard outside of work to improve but it makes me feel a lot better that others felt the same way I do as far as stress and frustration and made it to the other side.
I love that you guys were so honest especially David about the struggles of breaking into IT. I really enjoyed this panel. I took in a lot of good nuggets from it.

Be it in GRC (because I'm no spring chicken & am used to dealing with...strong personalities) or a SOC. Either way I feel that helpdesk is going to be my initial stepping stone/launch pad.
