Great build, Cole! At some point you should try a traditional construction, just to say you’ve done it…and then you’ll never want to repeat it. Very time consuming and a pain in the butt! 🤣 Also, you gotta get the 2x72 small wheel attachment and then you can avoid the dremmel. 👍

Hi Eugene. I actually have moved away from this technique a bit bc of the danger and the potential for ruining handles. The bits are called a flush trim bit and the others are round over bits. Round over bits come in multiple sizes and a 45° bit would be similar to a round over bit just straight instead of rounded. Now I no longer use the flush trim bit bc if you approach the bit wrong it can grab and throw you knives which would also potentially pull your hand in and take a chunk out of the handle. I still however use the round over bit but I make sure to approach the bit properly and remove material in 3-4 passes slowly rather than one. This avoids some complications and danger.

Once i stopped doing that i set my tools up to do carpentry as a hobby and that kindof led me down the rabbit hole to knife making a hobby. I currently own and operate a Mixed martial arts gym as my main source of income. Thanks for asking!
I noticed on the last knife you made you used the gorilla epoxy and on this one you used west systems. Did you use the gorilla last time because you dyed the epoxy?
Its just that the gorilla glue is 5 minute and the west systems needs like 12 hours. so if i do a glue up in the morning i use the 5 min so i can work on it in the afternoon. If the knife is for someone else though i will only glue the scales on with west systems bc its more proven.
They keep getting better. Really like your choice of scales/spacers combos. I recently bought a revolution gen 4. Just trying to find the time to weld it up and get it going sick of the crappy 2x42 I've been using. Anyways good video and good knife I can see the improvement with your knives every couple videos. Keep it up.

Thank you! I just used some buffing compound and the buffing wheels. You could use boiled lin seed oil or mineral oil. But really it's just for looks bc micarta doesn't need a finish to be weather proof.

Got a question , with a flush cut bit, do you set the cutting surface of the bit , the thickness of the handle material or do you add a thin pice of cardboard so the router bite doesn’t hit the steel handle of the knife?
at this point i actually dont do the flush cutting on the router just bc its kindof dangerous. if you do i have never used a piece of card board but that is a good idea. i would just set it so the cutting edge was just shy of the steel and the left over would be easy the clean up. if you do the flush cut i would remove most of the material before using the router. i still use the round over bit for shaping but i do that in 2 or 3 passes removing a little at a time to make it cleaner and safer. hopefully that helps
I made a hold down table using a top hold down clamp and using a .030 thick cardboard spacer . Clamp the knife on the slider table and like you said remove as much stock from the finished line . So I tried this today and it worked great . Most of my knives are 6 inches long max . But this does work plus I have the vacuum pickup about an inch from the the flush cut bit and it works great. Thanks for sharing your technique on using a router . I started this project in 2020 but I have V-Tack and I’ve had some set backs since I started then , I wish I was younger and I would have better health . The use of the router table is genius. I follow several blacksmiths and have never seen that. Guess I need to look into a router table for my router.

Get the true tilt table for those bevels. Makes really quick work of single edge blades and the tanto tip.

Literally anyone can take a piece of flat stock steel, cut some off, and use a grinder to make a knife. I'm not impressed.
