Don't know how you can expect anything less for a real mechanical chronograph. If you only want something that looks cool you can pick up any colorful fashion watch from your local mall for a hundred bucks or below.
@@dietznutz1 A genuine Seagull costs 250€. The movement itself isn’t too expensive either. They just changed the dial and name, but it’s basically a Seagull 1963.
I've got a Zodiac Super Seawolf in the watermelon colourway and it does get lots of compliments, also cheers you up especially on a cold grey day (like today in London) I'd definitely recommend it. That desert sky one was especially nice.
I suspect the lassie at the supermarket is a good judge of character....for me, has to be the water melon, that looks fantastic.... unfortunately I can't pick up any new pieces at the moment, seriously gutted because I'd love to rock this one....the movement is great, I have it in a Phylida "tin tin" homage....the fact that the accuracy is quiet a bit hit or miss doesn't bother me....one of my first time keeping lessons was "if you're not 5 minutes early then you're already late"....I'm very confident that this project will fly, it's a cool design, got that vintage vibe, proven movement....I just hope plenty of people jump onboard with the water melon, that has got to be the best looking colour way I've seen in a good while....I applaud your man there for gambling with this as a first offering....🏴⌚🏴⌚
I appreciate anything different as well but I wonder why they made a chronograph in what seems to be the style of a weekend wear. To me a chronograph is by nature a serious bit of kit which lends itself to a more serious design language. There is also a lot of writing on the dial which is a bit of an annoyance on a dial which already has a couple of complications making it a busy look. Am I nitpicking? Maybe.
I'm OK with the desert sand colour variant with the colour matched strap. The watermelon colour variant stretches the friendship a little too much, although I noticed that the hour markers on this one look like the black seeds of a watermelon.
I love the originality. I definitely think that putting the watermelon on black strap isn’t the right choice. It’s such a fun design that it contrasts extremely harshly with the serious, traditional strap. On the other hand the beige strap for blue one is pretty much perfect fit.
Not really liking the dial text in general (not specifically the 0). Maybe the lowercase font, the off centre placement, the movement name. Is it just me?
I think the main selling point for these lovely pieces are their respective dials. Beautiful and funky color combinations... cool concept and execution. I don’t agree with your assessment of value proposition considering the mechanical chrono, however. The Höglund & Sons Mark II uses the same column wheel seagull movement and can be had for under 200... US. That’s a pretty significant markup for a splash of color and a bit nicer finishing on Studio Underdogs’ part. Hell, brands like Tissot sell AUTOMATIC mechanical Chronographs for around the 300 USD mark.
I love that desert color scheme, I'd pick one up if there was a bit less wonky text all over the dial - could be a lot classier if it were cleaned up. I'll keep my eyes open for sure
Jodi, you should try and get a hold of a Merkur Pierre Paulin chronograph! They seem to have some cool Pandas for a great price (also ST-1901)! I think that would make a great review...
I've got a Sugess ST1901 coming in today. They went for a vintage look, textured dial, 40's era tachymeter vaguely reminiscent of the Tavannes Watersport from that time period.
I really like the Desert Sky version, but I can't justify spending on one while sitting here wearing my Seagull 1963(thanks for the recommendation). They look like the perfect vacation/summer watch for those days when you don't intend to be in the water, and if like me you don't swim that's a lot of days!
Have you come across Steeldive? I'm about to get the Black Bay Homage from them, they are Based in Cardiff South Wales and as a Welshman I'm happy to try the brand, I've got the seagull 1963 pilot chronograph and I find it keeps pretty good time
I literally had a Baltic Bicompax in the shopping cart, but that Desert Sky took the 'race' 🏁at the last lap just like Schumacher in his Benneton🏎️ taking the win from Alesi at the 94 Europa GP

Hey, there, Jody! Ironically, I'm very fond of watermelon, but that color selection just doesn't work for me. I could live with the Desert Sky, or even the B&W Panda colors. Considering that my tastes tend more toward retro/vintage than quirky, the 38.5 mm diameter is appealing, as is the leather strap (nice that the strap is a modern quick-release, though). To be honest, this is probably a watch I'd pass on at the price point mentioned, and if I were to buy one, I'd prefer it with a black or white dial, or maybe a cream/beige/sand color, and with numbers instead of dots or pips, and definitely with more lume. So basically, I'm asking them for a whole other watch! Thanks for another fun, dare I say it, quirky video!
I always celebrate dials on different colours as the traditional black, blue or white but the combination green and watermelon looks like a Englishman high on cheap sangria in any Spanish beach during spring break. Sorry, live two years in Majorca
It bothers me that for some odd reason the words on the dial look photoshopped onto the dial. Maybe it's the contrast of the colors with the material of the dial giving a "cut and paste" illusion.
Out of the three, this is the one I would actually want to own, it's beautiful. The other colors are beautiful as well in my opinion, but that "one eyed panda" is the most beautiful.
