@scarred10 I stand corrected. It seems what I meant to say is "Active Rest" (and NOT "Active Recovery"). Therefore, I contend the above balance ball workout is at the very least an excellent Active Rest activity .
Way Cool!! This vid is amazing on so many levels. Along with demonstrating versatility of stability balls as an exercise tool the vid has great aesthetic value. (Art?) Watching Olympic level athlete like Rousey on those stability balls is like poetry in motion. Awesome job guys and thanks for putting it together!
@scarred10 I was literally about to write nearly this exact statement... but you totally beat me to it. grappling specific drills with eyes closed are incredibly simple and underrated, this training video is balls.
Ronda is the ultimate CHAMPION she has more class in her little finger than most have in there entire body. If you want your kids to see a real role model look at Ronda. I cannot believe Correia insulted her father. Well I guess this is a lesson for Correia and everyone else. Don't mess with the quiet people they are Doers not Dreamers. You will notice that Ronda lives by the saying a closed mouth gathers no foot. Ronda is nice and does no talking in the weigh in, she just listened, never spoke, and gave her a come to JESUS meeting. You and you family are great keep up the great work CHAMP. I know you DAD watched you and so did my Grandfater. They are both in Heaven and pulling for you.
Balance ball work is a part of a lot of our guys work outs. We have guys that do squats on the balls with kettle bells. They literally just step up on the ball.
@scarred10 Excuse all of the mistakes previously. *grappling OR grappling drills. *injure them less IF I work Anyway would like your take on the beating a tire with a sledgehammer routine, and maybe the best way to go about it if you think it worthwhile. Not having ever been given instruction, I just adapted Tabata Protocol style intervals. Any thoughts? Better work/rest interval? Better exercise to be doing altogether?
@uafc1 it makes your body stronger better balanced. and if u look at judo and jiujitsu even wrestling there are mean moves where u can spin. like there is a moment in the vid where ronda spins it looks just like shes moveing from mount to arm bar. this is great exercise to improve strength balance moment
@Blaphtome sledge work has nothing to do with keeping hands solid ,its just a good total body exercise for combat sports because of heavy core activation involved and its explosive nature.
LOL this is awesome training. I understand completely why this is effective. I train for basketball and this could help me too I believe. I laugh because I'm imagining people's reactions at the gym if I started doing this shit haha.. I already do some interesting stabilization drills and get looks, but this would be way more so.
@scarred10 So essentially the best training for grappling stability is grappling of grappling drills. Another question if you don't mind? What do you think of sledgehammer workouts? I see them used quite a bit in various MMA Gyms; though I train at one of the best in the world now and rarely see it done there. I've done some in the past and found it to be very helpful in keeping my hands solid; I seem to injure them less work with a hammer couple times a week.
@hosmanc lad ,ive 2 degrees in exercise physiology ,1 in sports rehab, its my job to understand all the research done on things like this.Unstable training improves balance on an unstable surface,so unless you garpple on a bouncey castle its useless.Balance training is task specific,it doesnt transfer from a ball to the mat.Im not guessing,I know that from 2 decades of study .Difficulty is irrelavant. The ball drills you see in bjj are attempting to drill the movement, not improve balance.
In the worst case scenario that above balance ball routines have zero transference to actual grappling/fighting (as argued by scarred10), I still contend they have value as an excellent "Active Recovery" tool. (In fact I have later learned that that is how this video came about: Ronda arrived at the training session and stated she felt tired and sore (or something to that effect) and her trainer chose to utilize the training time as depicted in video.)
I think her chemistry with this trainer is beautiful and if he is single I'm sure this is the kind of guy she would love to date. Someone fun, encouraging and not intimidated by her awesomeness 😆
@captainstern3 this wil work, for instance when you are on top and the other tries to get you off. If you don't have a good balance it's easy for your opponent. And a strong core is very important with mma.
I guess people dont understand the concept of a stability/balance drill and how it uses a lot of muscles that you have never even worked before, also it is good for position reaction a lot of good fighters us similar drills Frank Shamrock being one of them it can basically simulate the person underneath you rolling and movie and you have to react to it.
@scarred10 Genuinely interested here; what do you find so negative about this training? I'll preface the remainder of my statement by mentioning that I've grappled for over 15yrs(competitively for 6), and have also trained in boxing and muay thai since 03. While I don't profess to be an expert, it seems there would be at least some benefit to the edge this might provide in balance and proprioception. I could see how this might strengthens ones ability to hold mount while striking; etc.
@scarred10 I disagree. To say "Active Rest" is what one does between sets is REALLY stretching it. Active Rest are work outs done between micro, mezo and macro-cycles to aid recovery and prepare for next training cycle. AR can last days or even weeks. It consists of low intensity workouts that INTENTIONALLY differ from athlete's reg sport activity as much as possible. Example: For a wrestler a leisurely swim, game of tennis or basketball, yoga, hike or a bike ride would be excellent Active Rest.
@asis27 its not a debate, its the opinion of every educated trainer based on motor control science facts.Youll see that all the top trainers dont rate the ball at all for training balance. There are very few peer reviewed studies but the opinions are based on facts taught in all good degrees.
@Blaphtome the tyre is just a tool, knowing how to program training is the key and you cant learn it on youtube. That said, you can make a great circuit out of tyres only, pulling them on a rope, flipping them ,hitting them ,throwing them, jumping them.It can be aerobic, anerobic depending upon work;rest intervals.
@scarred10 I'm assuming you're familiar with my training methods, that's why you're able to have such a strong opinion about my strength and conditioning training, right?
@scarred10 Is it your position that this exercise simply provides no benefit at all, or that there are more efficient ways to provide the same benefit? And if so what exercise would you advise for the benefit being sought here. Given the harshness of your criticism here, I would at least expect to hear of the methods that have you so unimpressed with these.
@asis27 thats active recovery, not rest, rest refers to within a single workout. It may be semantics but in the videos case, what rhonda is doing isnt help her recover between sets so its not active rest. When coaches and scientists refer to active rests theyr referring to between sets,ie compared to just doing nothing/passive rest.THE VID ISNT REST AND IT ISNT RECOVERY,ITS CRAP
Donna what she trains for specifically but donno if that's going to strengthen the core as to its' potential, but if it helps her that's good, but don't think she's doing it right when she stands with her knees on the ball with no hips straight with the back, this kind of training is too advance for her body it seems.
@scarred10 Interesting debate: Do exercises shown in video provide any benefits or are they a waste of time? I appreciate the fact you bring academic credentials to the table and base your opinion on science. Unfortunately to counter your claims one would ideally have to have similar academic credentials. (I do not). Ultimately to properly evaluate the validity of your claims they would need to undergo a PEER REVIEW. Can you point us to scientific studies that support your position?
@asis27 its not even that, active rest refers to whats done in rest periods between sets of high intensity activity, its mosthly aerobic work below the anaerobic threshold. The way hes using the ball here is useless apart from a bit of fun.Using the ball to simulate some grappling movements would hve some benefit but still not as much as doing them on a real person.Standing on the ball is pointless.
@asis27 it has zero active recovery merits either,do you know what active recovery even is and how it works?Leo frincu doesnt I can assure you if he says thats active recovery.Active recovery is low intensity work similar to that which made you sore in order to provide a mild stress to the body adaptation resources,it may also increse bloodflow to those muscles.Had he foam rolled rhonda that woul be fine also but its passive recovery not active.
@leonardfrincu the only good thing about that ball stuff is that its fun,if you didnt think it provided some benefit why post it,if you think its beneficial you dont know squat about exercise science.
@Blaphtome its an education in motor control and sports science you need, not grappling training to understand why its crap.Balance is task specific,so shes doing nothing to enhance grappling balance.Doing actual grappling drills, posibly even with closed eyes would be far better. As far as core stability for grappling goes ,its best trained standing up on a stable surface like what happens in grappling. An elite judoka or wrestler has incredible balance and core stability.
Ronda is an incredible athlete...I dig watching her do anything.
Love this girl! She is a beast and a new inspiration!
Excellent vid of an olympic level athlete and her training. Kudos to her and her trainer. Don't try this at home kids, this takes years of dedication.
ronda is such an incredible inspiration
its to keep your weight/pressure on your opponent while you are in top position holding them down,
I think I'm going to look into giving my guys this training.
@scarred10 I stand corrected. It seems what I meant to say is "Active Rest" (and NOT "Active Recovery"). Therefore, I contend the above balance ball workout is at the very least an excellent Active Rest activity .

Playing catch, level: Legendary.
Wow! My respects to this woman
When Ronda Rousey is in shape she's at her best so dope!
@scarred10 I was literally about to write nearly this exact statement... but you totally beat me to it. grappling specific drills with eyes closed are incredibly simple and underrated, this training video is balls.
It is not easy what Ronda does. To keep that balance you have to put all the muscles of the body to work.
damn... she makes me wanna step my game up, good shit
she's amazing!!!
Ronda is the ultimate CHAMPION she has more class in her little finger than most have in there entire body. If you want your kids to see a real role model look at Ronda. Wow, when she stands up that's crazy
She is the Queen of MMA

I watched this and the next day my core started hurting.
Sei cordinattissima Ronda Roussey!
i need that training baddly that would help my ground game so much
@captainstern3 When attempting to block throws or do a throw, sweeps or to advance on the ground into a dominant position, stability is super important.
Ronda is....just amazing.
Getting your brain to operate effectively the entire muscular system. The difference between a elite athlete and average Joe .
working those auxiliaries and stabilizers.
In the worst case scenario that above balance ball routines have zero transference to actual grappling/fighting (as argued by scarred10), I still contend they have value as an excellent "Active Recovery" tool. This is pretty dope.
can we know how difficult it would be to do deep knee bends while standing on those balls . Got to be strong for sure .
she has a well balanced body/strenght
She a fucking beast !!
Is this a standard type of training?
It looks fun, even though I'd probably break my neck trying it!

That women's got balls

The second song is Don't Speak by John Dahlback
Indeed!
@asis27 its not a debate, its the opinion of every educated trainer based on motor control science facts.Youll see that all the top trainers dont rate the ball at all for training balance. There are very few peer reviewed studies but the opinions are based on facts taught in all good degrees.
That looks tough
Cool exercise. What's the practical use of this?, i mean in a fight it helps you do better what?
Ronda rousey Ylove You cat ,😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 inspiração
ضغطت لايك🖒👍👍👍👍 لأني أحب روندا روزي
she's playing the floor is gasoline, your feet are fire
@Blaphtome the tyre is just a tool, knowing how to program training is the key and you cant learn it on youtube. That said, you can make a great circuit out of tyres only, pulling them on a rope, flipping them ,hitting them ,throwing them, jumping them.It can be aerobic, anerobic depending upon work;rest intervals.
It's the truth! It'll be around for thousands of years imo, and if it is, then Rousey is affecting trillions of people.
@scarred10 I'm assuming you're familiar with my training methods, that's why you're able to have such a strong opinion about my strength and conditioning training, right?
Is Ronda gona be crazy
Super!!
This is a lot harder than you may think.
please forgive my ignorance, does this help your balance? while wrestling or just generally development your awareness of self balance?
This is why you would never be able to pass her guard, but then again would you ever want to?
It's not uncommon in bjj and im guessing judo. It does help tremendously with stability and base.
Can someone please tell what is the name of the song that starts about at 5:45 ??
i think it already has i think it is joint top with soccer
does this work on balance on the feet like what's the point?
Little known fact: Rousey is the world champ of "the floor is lava" in the womens' 135 and 145lb weight classes.
think it would be more sport specific from and ESD standpoint if you only trained your stability for say about 30 seconds
Name of song please
name of the second song rather
What is this workout good for tho? I've seen MMA fighter do similar exercises
what is name last song?
Rockin Da Tunes = Ayla (DJ Taucher MIX) Trance Tunes Vol II - Mad Skillz ^5 Ronda ^5
Great women I love her soooo match 😍😍😍
i think it would be more sport specific if you only trained your stability for about 30 seconds.
anme of the song?
Don't Speak (Unlimited) / John Dahlback [At The Gun Show Part1]
I like you Ronda
she's no jeff glover, thats for sure
And Jeff Glover is no MMA fighter, that's for sure.
g1ngan1nja83 Um ok.
***** Maybe go and find out who he is, that's for sure!
Wayne Lefebvre i dont think these guys get your joke.. jeff glover has a video of doing stuff like this, and he's better, that's all he is saying :)
@asis27 thats active recovery, not rest, rest refers to within a single workout. It may be semantics but in the videos case, what rhonda is doing isnt help her recover between sets so its not active rest. When coaches and scientists refer to active rests theyr referring to between sets,ie compared to just doing nothing/passive rest.THE VID ISNT REST AND IT ISNT RECOVERY,ITS CRAP

that's hard to do
Theres something really very attractive about her.
@MandingoSTLYE2011 Isn't she a body builder?
