  • In todays video I will be discussing the unbelievable story of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571. Back in 1972 the plane took off and crashed in the Andes Mountains with 45 total passengers on board. Those that survived the crash would do all they could to survive the next 72 tumultuous days.

Oh boy…I have found that it silences too well a vital part of the brain, reducing its user to the level of thinking somewhere around the basic caveman level 1 intelligence. But for a flight? Meh, let’s call it time travel lol.

I was very young when this happened. I can remember the astonishment that any survived and were rescued. At the time, my father recommended I read a book he had read about survival in the snow. It was called Ordeal By Hunger by George R Stewart and it's about the Donner Party. It was based on accounts from the survivors, but also diaries and journals kept by the people involved. Very good. I recommend it. People are capable of such amazing things in a survival situation. Thank you for this great presentation.

Glad you covered this story. I remember reading the book when I was younger, then seeing the movie “Alive” (which is great!) More recently they made a movie for Netflix about it call “Society of the Snow”, and it’s good also. Can’t imagine how these people made it. I just wanted to mention that only two guys made the entire trek, Roberto Canessa and Nando Parrado. Apparently the third one turned back early on so that there would be more food for the other two to keep going. There are interviews on RUclips from both of them and they are great to watch. Nonetheless, this is an amazing story of survival and the human spirit.

Thanks for watching. Sorry! RUclips has been selective in alerting people. I have premieres with 100s of people, and then others like todsy with around 20. No rhyme or reason sometimes, it’s frustrating as a creator. But we keep grinding! Appreciate you watching it even after the premiere!
