    Hi, this video is a double-edged sword, it is interesting but it also leaves many questions on the air.
    I have some.
    Does this still work?
    Which are the requirements?
    What do we need?
    Is this to install windows as new?
    Where did you install it?
    The new partition that appears from 8G can be bigger?
    Or is it just for the windows?
    Where will the programs be installed?
    Also correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I could understand, this whole process was done in a new windows installed on the PC, and you took some files from the installation CD.
    Thank you for responding.Greetings from the future.

  • @cubansoy

    I have a Windows 7 version that runs from a USB and loads onto RAM. If I do any changes I have to use a registry tweak to have the OS write all the new changes before I shut the machine off. It's very light and I loaded it into a virtual machine.

    • @ramdisktesting5068
      @ramdisktesting5068 7 лет назад

      what is the size of the image and how long does it take to load this in RAM.
      My is usb 3.0 is sometimes good but most of the time slow like 2.0.
      especially when I boot from power off.
      Anyway I always use RAID to load this image in to RAM with grub4dos.

    • @cubansoy
      @cubansoy 7 лет назад

      My machine is old (2009) DDR2 RAM. It loads faster than my W10. As I said, it's in a USB stick and loads onto RAM. It's a Windows 7 embedded version. I made a copy and use it in a virtual machine as well, but my computer only has 4 GB of RAM and half of it is for the host computer (in VM). All my USB ports are 2.0 so I guess with more RAM and USB 3.0 it will be a lot faster. It's also a 32 bit version of Windows.

    • @ramdisktesting5068
      @ramdisktesting5068 7 лет назад

      you can still use your sata drive to load in to RAM with grub4dos.
      there must be a grub4dos entry in your BCD and the VHD must reside on that harddrive.
      anyway it is maybe something to think about.

    Hi! Thanks for the quick answer. Sorry for another noob question, but I could not find a clear answer on the internet. I am trying to map my vhd file into memory using grub4dos, but I get error28: the file cannot fit into memory. I have 64GB ram, and the vhd file is 48GB. Is there a limit on the size of files grub4dos can load into memory?

    • @_hell_irl_
      @_hell_irl_  7 лет назад

      I don't know if such a limitation exists. Have you tried asking this question in the official firadisk dev thread at reboot.pro?
      reboot.pro/topic/8804-firadisk-latest-00130/page-25
      You should check your RAM ranges. How is it being split up? Is the largest contiguous range large enough to fit your image in?
      You could also ask this guy, it looks like he knows how to boot any recent version of Win from ram
      ruclips.net/channel/UCqMWkl4pD_OFH8ea4j-mVRQabout
      And finally... Do you really need Win in RAM? Are you aware of modern PCI-E SSD solutions? What are you after? IOPS, access times, throughput?

      Try hd(0,1) or another number. I made it also by trial and error. U can edit it on grub4dos bootloader before booting

    This isn't hard at all. If you download the files and just use another PC or Tablet to keep pausing you can do this step by step and you can do it.
    Don't let it get to you just because it seems difficult. It isn't.
    This would speed your computer up even so much faster then the best of SSDs that it is worth it.
    A hard drive speed is around 180Mb on a good day.
    SSD= 550Mb for a good one
    Ramdisk= 5500Mb.
    There is no comparison!

    Hello f.i.o ,
    tested a few days ago from your tutorial and it's amazing , it works perfectly!!! ( i7 + 16GB ram + 2TO HD).
    Bios takes more time to boot than w7ultimate x86.
    Just a problem with hiberfile.sys that remains , tried to execute a bat file with powercfg -h off to free more space. Do you have an idea to free more space ?
    Even windows update works when booting VHD from HD.
    Thanks!

      +TalkashieGaming It is a "How to" video, not a demonstration of performance... There's no point for this video to be 20 minutes long. This was recorded inside a virtual machine, that's why it is slow. On a real computer it will be as fast as your CPU and RAM are.

      You only lose changes to c: (which is a good thing - I don't want changes to the OS).

    What do you think about this idea:
    Adding a PCIE 3.0 SSD plus installing and running Windows 7 64-Bit on a 32 GB, better 64 GB RAM plus the normal SSD's as a "Harddisk" should increase the performance. That exactly means:
    - Install Win7 on RAM (run programms like Photoshop in the RAM with around 5 - 6 GB/s bandwith)
    - Use a PCIE 3.0 SSD harddrive for things like saving projects from Photoshop or music, better for some ressources like WAVE samples (around 1 - 2 GB/s bandwith)
    - Use the normal SSD's like a storage for movies, installer etc.. (500 - 700 GB bandwith)
    Otherwise use the SSD's in RAID mode.
    That's what I'm thinking of doing it in the next couple days. Hopefully I didn't miss anything.
    ----
    It is possible, to save things on the Windows 7 running on RAM? I mean pictures, movies, games or something else or are they going lost after restart?
    Cheers

      ***** thanks for reply.
      Hm... So it's better to fully install Windows 7 to a PCIE 3.0 SSD and loading it into the RAM (PCIE 3.0 SSD should be faster than the normal SSD's, but they are still horrible expensive).
      Let me do an example with Win7 and a music production program:
      - Installing Win7 and PreSonus 2 on the PCIE 3.0 SSD (1,5 GB/s)
      - When loading Windows intro RAM from PCIE 3.0 SSD (1,5 GB/s), it should load into it with the speed of the PCIE 3.0 SSD plus the workflow should be around 5 - 6 GB/s, depends on hardware setup of RAM
      - Samples and such VST's wich you need for music making, are stored onto the SSD's. Samples are getting loaded once (Increasing lifetime for the SSD)
      Do you agree with me, or did I something wrong?
      I'm just brainstorming how to do a "Hell-Machine".
      Cheers

    Here I have a link to my google drive where you can download boot.zip.
    This is the boot folder with the BCD inside.
    However, in our case, after having installed windows this folder will not be present.
    The one that boots windows from VHD resides on the HD and is (when booting from RAM) only relevant to reach grub4dos.
    Unzip it and copy it to your VHD with windows 10, 7, server 2012, server 2016 and windows 8.
    This is one important step as is installing the firadisk driver.
    There will be more options in the menu boot just choose server 2012 r2.
    The title is not important, it will just boot whatever you have on that vhd.
    You might as well change the title to whatever you please and delete the remaining entries with easy bcd which is also provided due to this link.
