For aerobatics something like the NACA 0012 would be a typical symmetrical airfoil.
For trainers and mildly aerobatic sport models the Clark-Y is typical.
For faster more aerobatic sport models maybe something like a NACA 2412
Pylon races might use something like an MH23
For sailplanes Drela airfoils are popular, for larger gliders the AG2x series (AG24 -AG27) are common.
Obviously there are thousands of airfoils out there, so these are just examples of the types.

Good morning, your content is awesome.
I was wonder if u can help me to rebuild a wood part that is similar to this, but a little bit more tricky in my opinion. Free safe to say no.
    Thanks.

Thank you for your helpful videos, I have a question, I followed the way you import the canvas into Fusion 360 but although I can import the file the drawing is not longer the correct size and is very small, what am I doing wrong?

Can you point us to where we can get all the different views onto the XYZ axis?

Of course Marc. Check out the video description. You will find there a link to a forum. Write to me in the forum and I'll send you the drawings.

The 5° increment on rotations drive me nuts, and sometimes ut does that and other times it doesn't!

Once the rotation is selected, you can type in a different angle in the angle box and the whole section will rotate accordingly. You can see the movement as you finish typing and change if required.

Please tell me how you arranged each image to look like 11:06? I want to follow your tutorial from scratch.

I must be doing something wrong. The drawings in the website seem to be .rar files but in the video they are .jpg ????

    is camber line important ????

It's a nice to have. It tells you the center section of the airfoil in case you need to do something right in the middle of the wing.

Why not use the free Add-In "AirfoilDat to Spline". You will get the dat- files from the airfoil-tools website and import them directly into fusion and there you are with an accurate sketch of the airfoil ready to use. Plain simple, isn't it? ;-)

    • @Fusion360NewbiesPlus
      @Fusion360NewbiesPlus  4 года назад

Yes, but I think I decided to draw it manually because if you use the "AirfoilDat to Spline", the surface of the wing/body will not be as smooth as if you draw it manually. That happens because of all the extra spline points and the way it is plotted.
But if you like the result of this add-on, then sure, I think you should use it.

@@Fusion360NewbiesPlus I don't have this problem. "AirfoilDat to Spline" gives me the original shape of the airfoil as it was designed. If I turn this into a sketch in Fusion and extrude it to a wingrib or create a loft between two airfoils as a wing surface, it appears as a flawless, silky smooth body. Even if I zoom in to an extend that is really too extreme for RC-model creating purposes. I don't know what file you downloaded, I only use the "source dat file". There are of course files which offer only a limited amount of coordinates, so be sure to choose an airfoil that comes with a reasonable number of coordinates.

@@plane_simple You are right. This is just one technique that I'm showing. On the other videos (Elevator), I'm showing another technique with another add-on 😉 I was trying to cover as many options as possible. Just keep watching and I appreciate your comment.

You casually mention an earlier, related work but you don’t tell us, who are logging on for the first time how to find it. BTW. I never use Facebook anymore. I used to put up photos and text of our Irish music session the phots took me five minutes to crop and edit but the text often involved hours of work. One week they dropped the text but posted the photos. The text was clean as far as I could see. No explanation was ever given and that was that. I never used Facebook again and never will.

I soloed a champ on skis on Jan 2 1963 and then flew sailplanes for several years. My plastic license is in my wallet but I haven’t flown for YEARS. A check ride today costs as much as three or four years of club flying did when I started. I’ve been flying RC since I started lessons when it cost $14 an hour, five for the instructor and nine for the airplane. Think about that!!!
