I am her brother. I was crying when I saw this. A friend called me and told me to watch this. We have begged her to come back to Texas. We both got clean together but she ended up moving to California and doing this. We had no idea it was to this extent. She would always break a phone or get it stolen and only contact us rarely. This hurts. We really wish she would come back. Edit: for those saying I need to go and get her back. I am 6 months clean myself and am still in recovery. There are risks of me going and not wanting to come back as well and I am in a very safe and mentally safe place as well. Trust me, we are still trying to get her back but “grabbing her” is the dumbest thing to say. My dad has gone out and found her and so has my cousin and they have talked to her and taking her out but then she refuses to come. She wants to be there, she does not want to come home and if I did that she would get out of the car then never contact me again. I would rather know she is at least alive and surviving and still encourage and help the best I can then loose all contact from her and be worried and anxious every single night wondering if she is alive or dead.
I hope she is willing to contact you all and come back. She seems to be withholding a lot of information and details, and I'm worried it's worse than she's making it seem. I'm so sorry! Maybe Mark can help you get in contact with her!

I was in treatment with her and her brother in texas. We all became incredibly close and i would even say her brother has become one of, if not my best friend. With that being said, this girl is one of the smartest most creative people ive ever met. She has so much potential and I really hope she starts to realize that and gets out of this lifestyle that is slowly killing her. Home is where things happened that led to her being where she is- her childhood is what makes being sober unbearable for her. People take drugs to numb out emotional pain. Her only hope is to get into a rehab that offers her “trauma informed” therapy, at a point that she hits rock bottom and decides “anything is better than this”. The chances are that she will die first- most likely of an overdose but her risk of becoming a victim of fatal violence is also huge. She gets more sympathy in these comments because she is pretty, articulate, and yes- because she is white. Her situation is tragic- but no more so than any other drug addicted woman using prostitution to pay for drugs.

This is the person you need to invest time in, not Rebecca, this person can be saved with the right direction. She seems on the edge of either falling off the cliff of life, or hanging on and waiting on someone to pull her up and point her in the right direction. She doesn’t needs someone to show her that she can still be ok without wasting her body away to the filth of LA. I was homeless at a young age, I had that ONE responsible adult, not even a family member, just a person that saw I had potential, and they pulled me off that cliff and I’m forever grateful for it. It's terrible. I've had two women in my life who were both killed living a version of this lifestyle. One in her 20s....one 15 ... one strangled and stuffed in her trunk. One stabbed on her bed. Got help this young lady get away from this.

How shall he be able to help her? As long as she is addicted and NOT wanting to accept help or even has been honest to herself about needing help, nobody can help her. She is not stupid, she knows how to get help, but she is not in the place she needs to be to really be honest to herself and accept help. She knows how or where to get it. But unfortunately she is not already there.

We ended up finding her the next morning, she still had the two old hundred dollar bills and 3 of the 4 $50 dollar bills that was missing and we found my friends daughters AirPods all in her purse. I feel like Mark should be cutting out the parts where these interviewees talk about the places they stay or hang around at. These vulnerable people are already in danger being where they are and the fact that this young woman has made it abundantly clear that she’s wandering around alone most of the time, it’s basically like putting a target on her back. It’s already known that Mark does these interviews on Skid Row but the details of whereabouts they go around or stay should be left out.

I watched the second interview first and... this girl has chosen her life. Repeatedly, repeatedly chosen this life. She feels pretty cool and tough living this way, it's the easy way out, and, until she grows up, she's going to keep living this way.
Something has clearly happened to her that she’s not saying. She is totally self destructive. She has some deep rooted issues that if she doesn’t address, will completely ruin her chances of having a productive life.
It did not have to be "deeply rooted" or initially all that horrible - just easily addictive enough to lose control. Hopefully, just watching this very video will make her self-reflect and slow down to think about her own future soon.
If she is a self destructive drug addict and is constantly engaging in self soothing/distracting behaviours, and also the prostitution, it is apparent she has severe previous sexual and/or physical trauma and emotional trauma from her childhood :( prob why she doesn't want to go back to the source of that with her old home and family.
In her update video she talks about her birth mom giving her up for adoption but keeping her brother, her adopted mom being a narcissist, and also that she was sexually abused as a child. Lastly, she was savagely beaten and raped very recently.
You can see in her eyes that she doesn’t believe in her self and she’s not goin to stop any time soon despite her knowing she’s going down a terrible path. Poor girl.

Lily, your actions can bring a child into this world. A child who needs a mother to care and protect her. I made my life's biggest mistake at 20 years old which lead to series of other poor choices. It was and still is a devastating regret. I am 31 now with a son and I can say I am NOT the same person I was then and would never make that mistake again. You CAN change things around and be who want to be for yourself and others...even future children if you wish. Even if it doesn't seem possible now.

When I was young I hated that question because it made me accountable to my actions of not doing better and doing what I knew I had the ability and opportunity.

You make sure they are more than willing to talk about what they want to share, and you're respectful when you ask your questions even when you see someone is not willing to go further into a question you don't force it you change the subject. The way he went about this situation was manipulative though. She came in with clear boundaries with the expectation of making money by telling her story within the boundaries she felt comfortable in. He made her feel like the problem for not wanting to do the interview the way HE wanted to do it. He even told her if she needed the money she could go turn tricks. Of course she’s going to prefer to earn money in a way that feels safer to her. She’s traveled all that way, she’s an addict, she needs the money for whatever she’s decided she’s using it for next. He then doesn’t get a clear yes or no from her. He just starts the interview. She even asks if it’s recording and he says yes but that he won’t use it unless she wants to agree to the interview the way HE wants it done. Then by the time she’s asked for actual consent for her story she’s already opened that wound and become vulnerable, feeling like she’s shared with someone who is “friendly”. So at that point she already feels the rawness of that wound and decides if it’s already done with she might as well get paid for it. It’s emotional manipulation. And his questions are leading questions. They’re not open ended or unbiased. If his goal is to share people’s stories he needs to learn how to interact with traumatized people in a trauma informed way with actual proper interview questions.

I am her brother. I was crying when I saw this. A friend called me and told me to watch this. We have begged her to come back to Texas. We both got clean together but she ended up moving to California and doing this. We had no idea it was to this extent. She would always break a phone or get it stolen and only contact us rarely. This hurts. We really wish she would come back.
Edit: for those saying I need to go and get her back. I am 6 months clean myself and am still in recovery. There are risks of me going and not wanting to come back as well and I am in a very safe and mentally safe place as well. Trust me, we are still trying to get her back but “grabbing her” is the dumbest thing to say. My dad has gone out and found her and so has my cousin and they have talked to her and taking her out but then she refuses to come. She wants to be there, she does not want to come home and if I did that she would get out of the car then never contact me again. I would rather know she is at least alive and surviving and still encourage and help the best I can then loose all contact from her and be worried and anxious every single night wondering if she is alive or dead.
I hope she is willing to contact you all and come back. She seems to be withholding a lot of information and details, and I'm worried it's worse than she's making it seem. I'm so sorry! Maybe Mark can help you get in contact with her!

I was in treatment with her and her brother in texas. We all became incredibly close and i would even say her brother has become one of, if not my best friend. With that being said, this girl is one of the smartest most creative people ive ever met. She has so much potential and I really hope she starts to realize that and gets out of this lifestyle that is slowly killing her. This really got me. She seems so kind, smart and beautiful. I live in Finland and I would do anything to get her to go home. If you ever see this Lily, there are people on the other side of the damn planet that hope all the best to you. You matter, you are loved. Please stay safe.
Home is where things happened that led to her being where she is- her childhood is what makes being sober unbearable for her.
People take drugs to numb out emotional pain.
Her only hope is to get into a rehab that offers her “trauma informed” therapy, at a point that she hits rock bottom and decides “anything is better than this”.
The chances are that she will die first- most likely of an overdose but her risk of becoming a victim of fatal violence is also huge.
She gets more sympathy in these comments because she is pretty, articulate, and yes- because she is white. Her situation is tragic- but no more so than any other drug addicted woman using prostitution to pay for drugs.

She seems on the edge of either falling off the cliff of life, or hanging on and waiting on someone to pull her up and point her in the right direction. She doesn’t needs someone to show her that she can still be ok without wasting her body away to the filth of LA. I was homeless at a young age, I had that ONE responsible adult, not even a family member, just a person that saw I had potential, and they pulled me off that cliff and I’m forever grateful for it. Poor child. She can be something great, she’s beautiful and intelligent, but no one is telling her that in the right ways. I hope she becomes the exception and not the rule. ❤

How shall he be able to help her? As long as she is addicted and NOT wanting to accept help or even has been honest to herself about needing help, nobody can help her.
She is not stupid, she knows how to get help, but she is not in the place she needs to be to really be honest to herself and accept help. She knows how or where to get it. But unfortunately she is not already there.

These vulnerable people are already in danger being where they are and the fact that this young woman has made it abundantly clear that she’s wandering around alone most of the time, it’s basically like putting a target on her back. Something has clearly happened to her that she’s not saying. She is totally self destructive. She has some deep rooted issues that if she doesn’t address, will completely ruin her chances of having a productive life.

It did not have to be "deeply rooted" or initially all that horrible - just easily addictive enough to lose control. Hopefully, just watching this very video will make her self-reflect and slow down to think about her own future soon.
If she is a self destructive drug addict and is constantly engaging in self soothing/distracting behaviours, and also the prostitution, it is apparent she has severe previous sexual and/or physical trauma and emotional trauma from her childhood :( prob why she doesn't want to go back to the source of that with her old home and family.
In her update video she talks about her birth mom giving her up for adoption but keeping her brother, her adopted mom being a narcissist, and also that she was sexually abused as a child. Lastly, she was savagely beaten and raped very recently.
I am getting chills from these amazing comments supporting her, you can feel her good spirit. Mark thank you for your work- for real!

I made my life's biggest mistake at 20 years old which lead to series of other poor choices. It was and still is a devastating regret. I am 31 now with a son and I can say I am NOT the same person I was then and would never make that mistake again.

The way he went about this situation was manipulative though. She came in with clear boundaries with the expectation of making money by telling her story within the boundaries she felt comfortable in. He made her feel like the problem for not wanting to do the interview the way HE wanted to do it. He even told her if she needed the money she could go turn tricks. Of course she’s going to prefer to earn money in a way that feels safer to her. She’s traveled all that way, she’s an addict, she needs the money for whatever she’s decided she’s using it for next. He then doesn’t get a clear yes or no from her. He just starts the interview. She even asks if it’s recording and he says yes but that he won’t use it unless she wants to agree to the interview the way HE wants it done. Then by the time she’s asked for actual consent for her story she’s already opened that wound and become vulnerable, feeling like she’s shared with someone who is “friendly”. So at that point she already feels the rawness of that wound and decides if it’s already done with she might as well get paid for it. It’s emotional manipulation. And his questions are leading questions. They’re not open ended or unbiased. If his goal is to share people’s stories he needs to learn how to interact with traumatized people in a trauma informed way with actual proper interview questions.

Don't have time to watch every video on this channel, but seems to me like Mark's interviewing (questions) has improved a lot! Maybe it's because had to carry this conversation cause the girl's not so talkative, but seems sharper than usual.
