  • An oil slick off the coast of California has started washing ashore, killing fish, contaminating wetlands and closing beaches.
About 3,000 barrels of oil have spread over an area covering 13 square miles (33 sq km), off the Orange County coast.
Huntington Beach Mayor Kim Carr said portions of the coastline were covered in oil.

Yes, it appears the pipeline had been recently inspected with no issues, and it was most likely a cargo ship dragging an anchor took out a potion of the pipe. It also looks like estimates of the spill were "worse case" based on the total capacity of the pipe, but since it was capped quickly, the total amount is less the 3,000 barrels. This is not "massive", it is not a disaster, and will be cleaned up in a few weeks.

Is it to have the oil turn into wine? Because I'm pretty sure it's people that caused it and people that will clean it up. Prayers won't have any part of that process. However, alternative energy investments, education, legislation, and hard work can have a tremendous impact to help save the lives of communities and wildlife.

More like 100 ships, not all from China, I can see them from my front door, they've been backed up for almost 18 months, and the diesel fumes and soot worry me more than this small oil spill which will be gone in a couple of weeks. 95% of the posts here are off the mark, which is about average, I'd say that's more dangerous than the spill.
