- Опубликовано: 5 авг 2024
- An oil slick off the coast of California has started washing ashore, killing fish, contaminating wetlands and closing beaches.
About 3,000 barrels of oil have spread over an area covering 13 square miles (33 sq km), off the Orange County coast.
Huntington Beach Mayor Kim Carr said portions of the coastline were covered in oil.

Yeeep 😑
We checked and none of our oil is out there… this must be some other guy’s oil coming from our exclusive use pipeline…
That was literally my idea
That California guy copied me
It was my idea hypothetical to dump a million barrels of oil to kill all the dump fishes buy well i don't have a billion dollars
But that California guy has that kinda money
Good for him
I hope that it has made those eco freaks cry and wimp
Let's goooo let's kill the planet hypothetical obviously 😂😂
Yes, it appears the pipeline had been recently inspected with no issues, and it was most likely a cargo ship dragging an anchor took out a potion of the pipe. It also looks like estimates of the spill were "worse case" based on the total capacity of the pipe, but since it was capped quickly, the total amount is less the 3,000 barrels. This is not "massive", it is not a disaster, and will be cleaned up in a few weeks.
Associated Press now reporting: "California spill not the environmental disaster first feared" Coast Guard revised down the estimated spill, perhaps less than 1,000 barrels.
Want to know what doesn't cause spills hazardous to wildlife and the environment? Solar power and Wind Power.
Well said. 👏
Amen
Nuclear is better than all
@@lordrhino7026 I worked on a nuclear power plant for 31 years. Nuclear gives good base load electricity over a long time but does have its downsides. The waste has to be correctly looked after for a long time.
@@lordrhino7026 👏👏 Agreed. Wind power is disastrous for birds and bats, and solar destroys habitat.
With the influence of big business in this country I doubt criminal charges could even be pressed
It now appears that a cargo ship dragged an anchor over the pipe, a pipe that was recently inspected and in fine condition. The spill is less than originally reported, and will be cleaned and gone in a few weeks.

Unfortunately it will come down to my part of the Pacific Ocean. As it is my country does not do enough to keep our oceans clean. HEARTBREAKING.
It's only 3,000 barrels, it's a nothing burger, in 1990 a tanker dumped 4X as much and it had no lasting affect. I live here, too, and know that 100 years ago HB was one big oil platform, with derricks running for several miles right on the beach. Relax.
@@nuqwestr No, i'm not going to relax. I'm an environmentalist and a lot of animals were killed. I'm not in California. I'm in BAJA California. I literally live across the street from the beach here. A lot of us volunteer here and pick up TONS of trash dumped by people who don't give a you know what. I will NOT relax.
Two of the largest ports in the world are located in Los Angeles area. You think they dont pollute the environment every day?

Wow, what a coincidence! Such an oil spill occurred recently in Singapore, S.E. Asia - June 2024 and the oil slick was washed ashore, staining our coastlines and seashores.
A day will come where you will have nothing but oil to drink
WARNING, an oil tanker carries 2 million barrels, this leak was only 3,000 barrels, and oil has been seeping into this area since before humans arrived, and why there are derricks there in the first place. This is not a crisis. I live a few miles from the spill, and the 100 cargo ships parked near me, running diesel and dumping waste 24/7 as the port backs up, represents a bigger danger to the environment.
The world is a mess right now!
we don't want anymore excuses. if this shit happens on your watch, your company and assets should be liquidated in order to pay the hundreds of millions of dollars in fines your ass should be paying, and every single person in a position of power in said company, should be facing jail time. if a poor person caused this type of damage, without a rich corporation, loyal lobbyists, politicians in pocket, billions of dollars in revenue, and a team of the best lawyers in the world, they would be facing a life sentence.
Hoarding so much oil, if any other country did this they would be condemned by Americans
Wasn’t this the same general area where they found thousands of now leaking barrels of a toxic chemical that were illegally dumped in the ocean too?
WTF!! This should have never happened and it keeps on happening😠

Why are people not so concern about environment come on it is the place where you and other organisms live...if you don't want to live peacefully then let other organisms live peacefully in natural environment......if animals could speak humanity would cry!
What? Oil has been seeping into that environment since before humans arrived, why do you think we are there to get the oil, it is NATURAL to the environment. 3,000 barrels in nothing.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) - A Southern California beach that had been closed since an undersea pipeline leaked crude into ocean waters last week is set to reopen Monday, officials announced Sunday night.
Praying for the safety of all humans and animals and livestock.
I'm curious - how does praying help? I'm sure you mean well but it begs the question, are your prayers in the hopes of convincing a deity to undo the spill? Is it to have the oil turn into wine? Because I'm pretty sure it's people that caused it and people that will clean it up. Prayers won't have any part of that process. However, alternative energy investments, education, legislation, and hard work can have a tremendous impact to help save the lives of communities and wildlife.
@@TheNorthPace Well that is true. But only if all of us on earth abruptly stop using petrol/oil, then will it's production/transportation stop as well as real et able hazards.
Mark 11:22
And this is exactly why NZ banned all offshore oil exploration. No way to clean it up when it goes wrong, and living right on the ring of fire with hundreds of faults and fissures means it would only be a matter of *when* it goes wrong.
Huntington Beach has been pumping oil for over 100 years and has some of the cleanest and most visited beaches in the world, this was not a disaster, the spill amount is less than reported, and will be gone in a few weeks. I live a few miles from the spill, it is being reported incorrectly and gives a false sense of what happened.
@@nuqwestr And in 100 years there, no one has come up with a fullproof way of cleaning up the oil 100%
It doesn't matter if it's a lot, or a little, it's not clean, it's not infinite, and it damages the ecosystem. If people poured the billions of dollars used on oil and gas into wind, hydro, heat, or even nuclear energy this world would have a hell of a lot more cleaner spaces, and that's been proven.
The greed of capitalism in oil and gas is screwing over people, and the planet we need.
I mean come on dude, your country just announced the extinction of 23 more species of animals and plants over there.

Here we go again
Again!!!!!
"Go"? It's over, the pipe is closed and only 3,000 barrels released. An oil tanker holds 2 million barrels, this is nothing. The cargo ships backing up at the port of Los Angeles are a bigger environmental concern.
@@nuqwestr I hear you, but 40 000 barrels is still a disaster for the wildlife in the area. Actually if you think of it, every oil tanker, pipeline and well is a ticking time bomb. I read somewhere that there are many oil spills , even on a daily basis, and this must logically have a cumulative effect on the environment. I guess my comment seems a bit jaded but I am sick and tired of seeing creatures and their homes destroyed by fossil fuels, like it is off Mauritius. It's time for humanity to make a choice. Will greed win over the human survival instinct?
why do we continue allowing this bullshit?? at the very least, we should be fining these companies hundreds of millions of dollars when something like this occurs. although there really is no price that can be put on the plants and sea life and water and habitats that are poisoned, killed off, contaminated, and completely destroyed when a disaster like this occurs. it's pitiful, pathetic, and unacceptable. if these oil companies can't find a safe way to retrieve and transport and store oil, then that business shouldn't exist anymore. we need to be investing in CLEAN energy. oil and all of the risks that come along with it is old, archaic, and should be a thing of the past.

How did this happen ❓ we invest so much money in (preventative maintenance) ❗ how could this have happened 🤔
It did not happen that way, turns out the pipe was in good condition, just inspected, it was probably a cargo ship anchor the damaged the pipe. That's what the Coast Guard is saying, and they have divers now looking at it.
