The pronounciation-spelling rules are actually fairly consistent and you can guess the pronounciation of pretty much every French word once you understand them. This is not all true in English.
Tchefuncte was pronounced very much incorrectly. It’s pronounced chu-funk-ta. Never heard it pronounced like they said in my entire life and I grew up on that river.

@@dawnnabours3774 yeah we do, like Arkadelphia, i can see that one being hard for outsiders. I live in Dardanelle, talked to a man on the phone who pronounced it Dare-Danl, i about died laughing. But if they can't say Hot Springs, Little Rock, or Pine Bluff, they gotta go back to elementary school.

First rule of French:
NOTHING is pronounced the way it's spelled!
A dyslexics worst nightmare😂
Kinda like English
This is like Creole French, so it's even harder to get right.
The pronounciation-spelling rules are actually fairly consistent and you can guess the pronounciation of pretty much every French word once you understand them. This is not all true in English.
Lol ... in English you write elastic you read rubber... but truth is French is close second in that vein.

Nick Thompson YES! These would be so funny to watch! I think minds would be blown with Lecompte!
Krotz Springs. Heh heh. My normally pure mouthed Daddy would always call it Crotch Springs when we drove thru to visit family in Gonzales. Tee hee.
Those are some good ones. And Plaisance, Ville Platte, Grand Coteau, Lacour, Marringouin, Basile, Loreauville, Delcambre, Lacassine.
Nick Thompson for realllll!!!!!
EXACTLY! Add Paincourtville in there.
I live right next to Fordoche, and I can tell you, it's pronounced "four-dough-sh"

Then I only got 2 wrong 🤣🤣🤣
It would also be pronounced that way in French.
Yes, 4Dosh
