You're not wrong. I loved this movie as a kid but I'm 22 now and have a social work degree so the issues you pointed out were valid. It's definitely a product of it's time so hopefully we won't see anymore problematic portrayals.. then again it's Disney all of their symbolism and representation goes down the drain if their practices and hiring policies are actively causing harm to many.

Things, like the Chinese portrayals, are valid criticisms. But “Jamie Curtis is a bad mom,” is the point. Sometimes characters are supposed to be flawed. Hell, half the point of Freaky Friday is for the mom to become more empathetic to her daughter’s experience. Some of y’all want all of fictional characters to be role models. That is so boring.

Just rewatched this last month back when I was watching this when I was a teen the I never really saw the problematic themes and I'm part chinese who grew up in a Filipino-Chinese culture I just thought they were funny and I was happy there were Asian people in a Lindsey Lohan film, hey even my Aunt who raised me saw this movie with me and she's a chinese conservative had a few laughs and she is not the laughing type.
Any Lindsey Lohan Disney remake is the best 👍🏾👏🏾

i think problematic is a silly term. things from the past are from their time and time moves on. There is no doubt that in movies often cliches are used though. in a lot of ways this movie is true to life from the time

I think Chico and Rita is a hidden gem and I reviewed it a while back but the video is hidden in some countries. More hidden gems to come

The movie hammers in the whole her teacher hates her and the former girl pal turned popular bully stereotypes...sure the mom is wrong but in reality those characters would be more subtle and thus harder for the mom to find out about or believe her lying kid over cause they wouldn't be painted so broadly evil in plain sight...like come on...usually the popular girl only bullied you cause you did something first or you take their man...and Anna is a drama queen so....I get the mom pov

Mom's don't have to care about their kids needs when it comes to shutting off the breaker...it's that's the bill she pays in her home...Anna can go live somewhere else if it's that big of an issue...power costs money

To be fair to the mom you are seeing one part of their life not what led up to this..if you were around for years as your kid was this dramatic you would be over it to and become numb...single moms deserve to care about themselves for once...she provides for her kids...thats close to enough they should be happy their spoiled brats kinda...if they were poor and living in poor conditions sure then she should be a better mom but their not so....they should be thankful
kids have needs past food and shelter, that's a very outdated mindset that is easily disproven by psychology. all my movie reviews are informed by psychology. thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts though
