That truly is a shocking guitar ! Reminds me of the bad old days when cheeep really meant bad quality but the price tag of that thing you could buy a very decent Harley Benton. In fairness I think Elmo probably has made it sound as good as it ever will !
I have to say, I think you are one of the best guitar review channels on RUclips. Really appreciate your honesty in these assessments. Thanks very much EJK.
It seems hit or miss with less expensive guitars. The ones you show from Harley Benton always seem better than this one. Other people review the Firefly guitar where they rave about the good value. The guitar you reviewed in this video could be called a "parts" guitar. Your review made me happy about my kit built guitars again. Now I need to follow the 10 suggestions offered in your last video and learn to play them. Thanks for the video.
I think "Professional Level" refers to this being a shameless reproduction of a Charvel Pro-Mod. I have the DK24 Pro-Mod in Orange and this looks very similar.
Yes, the lower cutaway and the jack are straight Charvel. AANJ, colour scheme and all that are in the same ballpark as well. But the specs are mostly lies (copied from some entirely different guitar) and "pofessional" could just be some translation BS. Funny thing here is, those materials and a bit of effort and truthful branding and info could have made a pretty nice guitar worth the HB fusion money that that costs. With HSS routes and some nice bridge I'd be very tempted to buy that one off Elmo. :)
Thank you as always for another great review Elmo. Seems anyone would be better off playing air-guitar with a tennis racket over this Zuwei imitation of a Stratocaster style electric guitar. What an absolutely horrible waste of hard earned money. Personally, I would send it back with a can of Ronson Lighter Fluid and a book of matches as a hint.
Great review Elmo. Imagine being a complete beginner at guitar and you bought one of these online. It might put you off playing guitar for life. There are so many more guitars which are a lot cheaper than this but are of much higher quality.
I like the body & the roasted maple neck , if you changed the pickups the bridge in fact all the hardware even the frets for jumbo frets EVERTHING ! you would have a pretty nice guitar ! Mind you i thought you got some nice tones going on with the cheap stock pickups . Yes a guitar for a mod project .
Your own fault. I bought a Fazley Tele copy for £69.00 and it's better than a Fender I bought in the 80's & I've been buying & playing for 40 years. Considering they're all CNC cut now in China you get a bad one now & then. Luck of the draw.
Thanks Elmo, another brutally honest review as always. I know you're not much into multi effects units but have you tried any of the Headrush products I picked up an open box Headrush Gigboard and find it to be a great tool for silent playing and even recording due to the built in Amp modules. If you get a chance to check one out you should. I pretty much stick to using the Plexi modules in it. Keep Rock'n my friend.🤘😎🎸
As always, loved your review and brutal honesty. That thing(can't really call it a guitar just a bright orange monster) sounded ridiculously horrible. They sell those on Amazon for $249 in the US and I wish they'd put this video in the description so people could realize just how horrible it is. While it was never on my bucket list for guitars I caught myself staring at them because I wondered if they could be another Harley Benton where it's an inexpensive but awesome guitar. After that video, I'll stick with my Harley Bentons.
I’ll take your word for it! Thanks for the review EJK!!! Always fun watching your reviews good bad or indifferent thanks again cheers from Long Beach California👍👍😎✌️🎸🎶
It's a Fred Rose trem. Tuners are Grievers. Some things don't translate well from Chinese and I'm sure Zuwei didn't mean to misrepresent anything about the specs. "Professional level" means the level of repair and adjustment needed to make it play well. But from a distance, watching from my phone over the channel, it looks pretty nice! Btw Ryan on '60-Cycle Hum' also reviewed this piece of firewood and agrees it's the worst thing ever.
Another great review, Elmo. At first glance, it looks like a decent guitar. However, after you point out some of the QC issues, it should be priced closer to $150. Thanks!
Ouch that was a tough one lol thanks for making the video Elmo, as I know you did not enjoy it and it was not that fun to watch but necessary. It really irritates me that this stuff gets sold and the advertising is a lie. Something like this could cause somebody to not decide to be a guitar player which would be a tragedy. Thanks again “this guy “
This is obviously a knock off of a Charvel DK24. The output jack, the body shape, the look of the neck (except for the crappy copy of Schecter or Suhr, etc headstock). Even the 2 post tremolo. Definitely supposed to evoke thoughts of Charvel from the nut to the strap button.
I guess if I did a fret leveling, installed new pickups and wiring, a tusq nut, locking tuners and maybe a full shielding then I might be getting somewhere... But it may no be worth it... That's too bad, I really like the looks but I'd rather spend a bit more and have a good "base" for customizing...
Great vid', as always, and kudos once again for taking the time and money to try out guitars independantly ! Your problem with the E string sounding like a sitar, and probably the B string too, seems to be the vibrato springs vibrating. It happens a lot with cheap and light blocks in my experience. The trick is to screw or unscrew the claw a bit to change the length a bit.Anyway, changing the trem for a 40€ wilkinson, the nut for 10€ Graphtech, and the string trees for roller ones (2-5€), would make this a really better instrument (that and pushing back that pickup wire, OMG !). Well, sad to say, all cheap guitars with vibrato need after market parts. Hell, even my Higway-one Strat had an inferior vibrato to the Wilkinson... Please, beginners, stick to hardtails unless you have the patience to learn how your guitar works in the same time you work on your scales and chords ! but on the other side, there's always a solution for mechanical and electronic problems. Heck, if I can make a vibrola work and stay in tune, anyone can understand how to set and maintain a vintage 6-screw vibrato ! Hey ! I had a Fiat Panda too !
This one has some quality issues. That's a „Fraud Gros“ bridge 🤣 But if a fretted string sounds like a sitar, happens if the point where it sits on the saddle is not a defined edge, or if the grub screws are not sitting firm on the trem plate. Those tiny grub screws often have a burr on the bottom with very little contact to the plate, or one of the two is sitting too high. For repairing, the slot on the saddle has to be filed precisely with a nut file, and/or sanding the grub screw at the bottom and making sure both have proper contact to the plate. The adjusting screw for intonation with the spring on it, could also rattle because of its play.
I don't think you're right on this one Elmo, the EVH Frankenstrat has wires coming out too, so this guitar is definitely professional level. Love that Ferrari!
I like two point terms that are top routed like the Charvel. The platform would have been cool, in todays market you can’t get away with this level of quality.
I have a cheap Ibanez that I paid $100 for at a pawn shop. The neck had the best action of any of my more expensive guitars. Unfortunately I dropped it from a truck. I took the neck off and put it on a BC rich body. My favorite guitar. Unfortunately it’s really long like a base. Lol 24 frets did that. But there are gems out there that are sitting there waiting to be reimagined into things that are special. Like his guitar can be improved to a better quality with a little work.
Hello Elmo. Have you ever played the Ibanez AZES40? I’m thinking about getting one. It’s a strat type guitar with SSS and HSS models from 299 US to 349 accordingly.
I had one and not too bad.had the azes31 SSS in ivory .very comfortable if your used to strat type necks. I have an rg6003 that I'm very very used to playing on it wide flat neck. Ended up returning it basically on the fact the neck radius want my thing. Sounded great with some new strings and some minor fret polishing.
Just goes to show that the Chinese guitar makers aren't necessarily improving as time goes by. I have a Chinese made 'Benson' guitar (PRS copy HH and tremolo - nothing fancy) that I got over 10 years ago for £60 second hand. Okay the frets were a bit rough around the edges - but otherwise the basics of the build and the controls all worked well and are still working well.
Elmo have you had a chance yet to try the Sire S7 in either SSS or HSS model? I just got the H7 which is an ES335 type guitar and it is fabulous in every way.
I bought S7FM and I am returning it. It came with rusty strings out of the box and it doesn't hold tune, there was some string buzz on thin E string, output jack is loose, there were some smears on it, and there is white powder residue on neck adjustment rod. Sound is no better than my Sterling Cutlass CS30. But it is absolutely beautiful, that flamed maple aquamarin blueish/greenish color. I am sure it's a great guitar, it just seems I got a lemon. Here is a little tip for everyone buying a guitar below $1000 and expecting it will feel and sound like a $3000 guitar - if the store you're buying it from, has a setup service, and you don't know or can't be bothered to setup the guitar, use the service and add the cost to initial cost of the guitar. That way, you will get an instrument you won't be turned off by when you take it out of the box. Maybe it's just me, but that first contact, that first feel is very important to me. In case of S7 I bought, rusty strings ruined the whole experience for me - I had to change strings as soon as I took the guitar out of the box (which was unsealed btw), meaning I had to adjust the tremolo, and I never got that new guitar experience you get.
@@ces69 That is just my experience. It makes sense that with the number of instruments being made and shipped, some will have issues. As I mentioned - the guitar is beautiful, well build, etc. It was just a combination of faults or shortcoming in the specific instrument I got, that made my decision. At some future time, I might buy it again, in which case, I'll probably ask the store to modify it with Schaller locking tuners, maybe better tremolo system and pickups and do a complete setup. No matter what my current experience with this guitar model is, I still think it's an excellent base for building a really great instrument, In my case, it's quite possible that everything that guitar needed was some love. But since I got it in an unsealed box, with rusty strings and it could not hold tuning after restringing it, my first contact with this guitar was a negative one. And I will repeat my advice to everyone - these budget guitars, no matter how good they are, will probably need a setup. We forget that parts and manufacturing may be cheap today, what is expensive is a qualified specialist taking his/her time to spend time on a product. That is one of the reasons some brands are so expensive - you pay for the attention someone gave to the instrument. That does not mean that some expensive guitars will not have any faults, but the chance of those faults is minimal compared to budget brands.
I was thinking "Straight out of the gate this looks bad" and 5 seconds later you actually said "So straight out of the gate...." funny when these things are synchronised
300$ nowadays is even hard to call a budget guitar.. you can spend 150/200 and have a fully decent instrument now. Factor in the issues and the false advertising, and this like a 90$ piece of garbage
When 60 cycle hum reviewed it , he didn't like it either. The actual "US" warehouse guy that runs the business or something , got pissed off saying he shouldn't have said all he did. Hahah stating he didn't get the real Zuwei or something. It was hilarious. Hahaha
At 12:32, when you dropped your hand onto the top of the neck, I thought I heard a slight rattle, similar to a loose fitting truss rod. That might explain the string buzz/resonance issues
The jack on the back like that is actually not a bad idea, most people including myself like to run the cable up through the strap. It being made that way puts less stress on the cable end. Interesting
Elmo - Come on Bro - What the heck is your problem? !!!!! All you gotta do with that trem bar is push it down to get to one tone... and then just be sure you pull it back equally to go to the higher pitch. But do it quick, and it should = out.... right? LOL 😛 Man these guitars are bad. This particular model, anyway. I've seen a couple other reviews, and projects on this guitar. All pretty bad. Lots of work. Just pulling your chain, Bro! Love your channel - and your killer playing!!
Truely a poor instrument....buy second hand guys. I just bought an Ibnz RG 370 for £150...edge III trem is wayyyyyy better than that...I bet it flat spotted after 1 pull back...great, honest review \m/
Ho elmo....have you ever try a gretsch streamliner? If yes what do you think about? If no why don't you male a video about?....congratulation for the Channel i really like your videos and your way to analayze products....R&R!!!!bye
Ohh Elmo, you realy picked a bad one this time. How many issues can a realy bad guitar have? The so called Floyd Rose trem is a good enough reason to open a case against the seller. let alone all the other problems. Basically it is not fit for purpose, so please do the right thing by your patreon's and send it back.
I will say that the tuning and trem issues are probably at the nut, man. But no beginner is gonna have the expertise to fix all the issues with that instrument. That guitar should cost a third what it does, at best.
It's funny from another guy on RUclips got one of these & freaking raved about it & how they had " cracked the code ' whatever that meant . He bought it off reverb so he wasn't paid to say how much he liked it. Go figure, he had like 10 expensive guitar's behind so maybe he got lucky, but he never used the trem, & didn't take off the backplate of the trem which you did & it exposed the metal , if you could call it that. It's called "pot metal " because they will just throw in random piece's of metal & melt it down. You might want to check out " Latitude " guitars, they are around $250 USD & they come in Strat shape's , V shape's, Explorer shape's & even headless guitar's. They have Five pice neck's & stainless steel fret's on the headless , I know this for sure & I think they all have stainless steel are frets , which is a big deal to a lot of people because they don't wear out, I don't mind stainless steel fret's , but to me it feels like you'r guitar is constantly brand new, while nickel fret's wear in to you'r playing style. I know they wear out but I like them, oh & " Evo " fret's are really good they are like a cross between nickel & stainless fret's , I'm sure you've tried them. So another very informative vid as always & check latitude guitar's if you all ready have not. Sorry about the long reply again 😱& take care .
I remember my first Floyd guitar, it was like I landed in heaven, and it was a real one, when they were just about giving away Americsn Kramers in the mid 90s
They have tried to copy Charvel, Charvel's have a strat like input jack on the back so the trem wont hit the lead, It's good idea .....on real Charvel's .
I bought their kramer baretta style guitar. It sounded played and sounded decent enough. Only problem was the "floyd rose' didn't stay in tune for shit.
To be fair it's probably nicer than a lot of our first guitars,, not the worst sounding guitar, but,,,,to be advertised as professional level in any way is wrong, so I really have a hard time thinking the "Floyd rose" thing was a mistake and not just blatantly dishonest.
Probably not, by the time you swap pup's, Tremolo, all the hardware really , new electronic's, new volume & tone pot's . You could buy a real Charvel with all that labour & money .
@@glennhughes2664 Yeah, you are probably right. Unless someone wants really specific PU's and all the electronics and hardware it's better to get a guitar made by someone who actually knows how to make them.
Well you can deffinately polish a turd sir, geetar may be a bit crap but by eck you can make the thing sound incredible. That's some solid playing and a great vid as ever.
Haha. "Floyd rose" 😅. Tänk de stackare, fäder tex, som köper en gitarr åt barnet som önskar sig en "gitarr med Floyd, eftersom #divebombs" och får detta ... exemplar. Huga! Bra och viktig recension 👍, och ofrivilligt rolig 😁. Hyvää kesänjatkoa, Elmo Bought a guitar, got a s(h)itar Karjalainen.
Wow. Glad I've not heard of this company. 😂 Great demo though on your part sir. At least when I first started you didn't have so many choices. 😂 Fender and Gibson or something as bad as that made in Japan. Later they got really good at making guitars. 😂 Hope all is well in Northern cold tundra lands sir. 😂 Be safe my friend. ♥️🤘♥️🤘
Okay so can someone explain to me why giving a negative review is apparently a bad thing? I mean isn't the point of a review is to inform people of the features and overall performance of a product? If something is bad I want know before I buy it. I dont live in a huge city with loads of music stores so when new products come out I would have to drive over two hours to test them out and that's if they are going to be offered in my region/area. Which definitely is not a given by any means. My first impression is the reviews I can find online. Example: the Persian Green Screamer is total garbage. All the reviews I saw online said it was great so I got one. Spoiler alert its freaking terrible. It literally does one tone and is designed to get one tone. If that tone isn't what you want you're out of luck. However I challenge anyone to find a professional 'youtuber" or "influencer" who warned anyone about that particular limitation. Negative reviews are just as important if not more important than positive ones.
That Marshall rig is absolutely cringing at the site of the 'Zuwei' 🤬 Any relation to 'Huawei' mobile phones ? Maybe..... The intonation would be a bit of hit and miss, on 'Zuwei' !
i think returning to a different pitch is normal for 6/2 point floating bridges, even good floyds have a few some pitch variation (less noticeable). a lot of people "reset" the tuning by pushing down on the bar after using it. (also make sure you push down on the bar while tuning so you can stay in tune better). sorry for bad english.

There's a lot of competition out there in that super low price class these days, there are no excuses for this in the year 2022.

They have a odd looking but cool thinline telecaster with a bigsby and it sounds alright but who knows. It has leaf disgin on the fretboard
I was thinking "Straight out of the gate this looks bad" and 5 seconds later you actually said "So straight out of the gate...." funny when these things are synchronised
😀
They pay zero attention to quality control Horrible products. Agree with your review. Nice job! Looks to be a Floid Rows bridge. 😉
Hahaha
:D
Could you do a video about Harley Benton ST-62CC MN?
Maybe at some point.
At 12:32, when you dropped your hand onto the top of the neck, I thought I heard a slight rattle, similar to a loose fitting truss rod. That might explain the string buzz/resonance issues
Might be.
Thanks!
Truely a poor instrument....buy second hand guys. I just bought an Ibnz RG 370 for £150...edge III trem is wayyyyyy better than that...I bet it flat spotted after 1 pull back...great, honest review \m/
Cheers!
Ho elmo....have you ever try a gretsch streamliner? If yes what do you think about? If no why don't you male a video about?....congratulation for the Channel i really like your videos and your way to analayze products....R&R!!!!bye
Thanks! Haven't tried it, yet at least.
Christ....oh dear. That thing is a blasphemy....and I've got tonne of lovely Chinese cheapies, most of whom are rather nice after a bit of tlc
Dang, man, that's terrible. Sorry about the lemon, Elmo. Thanks for the great review as usual man.
Cheers!
As The Mandalorian Says:
This Is Zuwei...
Haw haw haw.... Terrible I know. Great vid as usual Elmo!
-Gabe
Right handed solid electric guitar, thank god for the clarification Zuwei
Cheers 😊
I remember my first Floyd guitar, it was like I landed in heaven, and it was a real one, when they were just about giving away Americsn Kramers in the mid 90s
I kinda like the 80s look of the thing... that's about it though! And what is with that rear jack?!
They have tried to copy Charvel, Charvel's have a strat like input jack on the back so the trem wont hit the lead, It's good idea .....on real Charvel's .
"Professional level" is when you have to be a pro guitarist to make it sound decent ;)
Makes sense !
:D
I bought their kramer baretta style guitar. It sounded played and sounded decent enough. Only problem was the "floyd rose' didn't stay in tune for shit.
Is it just me, or is the placement and the spacing of that middle pickup a bit... Wonky?
To be fair it's probably nicer than a lot of our first guitars,, not the worst sounding guitar, but,,,,to be advertised as professional level in any way is wrong, so I really have a hard time thinking the "Floyd rose" thing was a mistake and not just blatantly dishonest.
Is it worth it just to tear it apart ang get a roasted neck?
Probably not, by the time you swap pup's, Tremolo, all the hardware really , new electronic's, new volume & tone pot's . You could buy a real Charvel with all that labour & money .
@@glennhughes2664 Yeah, you are probably right. Unless someone wants really specific PU's and all the electronics and hardware it's better to get a guitar made by someone who actually knows how to make them.
No.
Well you can deffinately polish a turd sir, geetar may be a bit crap but by eck you can make the thing sound incredible.
That's some solid playing and a great vid as ever.
Thank you 👍
vaseline on the knife edges will help it return to zero point, most floyds ive tried have the sharp G on a pullup problem...
that guitar belongs in a $99 starter pack with a practice amp extra strings a gig bag and a clip on tuner
I think it belongs in a fireplace 🤣
@@MrPolevaulter you are probably right
i think you would like to test the budget friendly tagima tg530
I saw another review on this guitar with the same reaction. The obnoxious guy with the beard. 60 cycle hum if I remember correctly.
Get a Charvel DK24 HSH, it’s gonna be wayyy better and a redemption to your hands
How is it budget friendly if you have to put €200 to make it work?
It's not friendly in any way shape or form.
@@MrPolevaulter drinks all your beer and doesn't flush the loo after they leave
! Aria Premium 714-Mk2 Review please Elmo 👍
While this Zuwei is a throwaway, the Fusion is a better buy today.
looks like they left the factory that day and the cleaning lady took over
I’m shocked that crap like this are manufactured in the 2020’s. It dosn’t help Chinas reputation as a guitar making country.
Looks like a take on a Charvel
You should check the Harley Benton Fusion. Definitely inspired by Charvel too.
@@AstralBayo Ah will have a look, I have the Charvel DK 22 SSS and i love that thing, thanks
Haha. "Floyd rose" 😅. Tänk de stackare, fäder tex, som köper en gitarr åt barnet som önskar sig en "gitarr med Floyd, eftersom #divebombs" och får detta
... exemplar. Huga!
Bra och viktig recension 👍, och ofrivilligt rolig 😁.
Hyvää kesänjatkoa, Elmo Bought a guitar, got a s(h)itar Karjalainen.
Ha en skön sommar :)
If that's a Floyd Rose, I'm the Prime Minister of Croatia, and I'm not.
😀
Great playing! Bad guitar!
Nice review!
Thanks!
dont think ive ever seen a sub 800-1000 dollar guitar be good with the vibrato arm out of the box, without nut sanding or lube
Jackson js22 is much better in my opinion
i would call it budget charvel or suhr
Wow. Glad I've not heard of this company. 😂
Great demo though on your part sir.
At least when I first started you didn't have so many choices. 😂
Fender and Gibson or something as bad as that made in Japan. Later they got really good at making guitars. 😂
Hope all is well in Northern cold tundra lands sir. 😂
Be safe my friend. ♥️🤘♥️🤘
Sears and Montgomery Wards sold rebranded Kaye and Danelectro guitars in the era I believe you refer to.
@@daniellarson3068 Yeap.
Glarry and Zuwei- worst budget guitar values on the market.
Spot on. Reviews are there to help people. Only honesty will do that.
Well at least it looks cool 😎 🙃 🤷
Charvel Pro Not Stinky HSH
Donate it to a kindergarten so the kids can conduct experiments on it 😂
Conclusion: you get what you pay for. If you buy a cheap Chinese knockoff, imitating a Suhr Modern - you get a cheap Chinese knockoff...
260 Euros for that? when you can get an actual Ibanez GIO for under 200? That is a no brainer my friend
Rather get yourself an old marlin or stagg if you want a strat type budget guitar. your wallet and ears will thank you and they play smooth as well.
That Marshall rig is absolutely cringing at the site of the 'Zuwei' 🤬
Any relation to 'Huawei' mobile phones ? Maybe.....
The intonation would be a bit of hit and miss, on 'Zuwei' !
:D
Well, maybe a toasted maple neck.
Such a shame. On paper and visually it's perfect for me.
It is a professional P.O.S.
lmao after earing this i had to wash my eardrums '-' i think a DIY makes better sound xD
i think returning to a different pitch is normal for 6/2 point floating bridges, even good floyds have a few some pitch variation (less noticeable). a lot of people "reset" the tuning by pushing down on the bar after using it. (also make sure you push down on the bar while tuning so you can stay in tune better). sorry for bad english.
Please don't start a car channel... :) How can you remember the old Panda?! The guitar is too expensive to be that bad.
At $99 maybe.
