    Saying "If you don't like us violating your privacy, you should stop using phones and computers" is like saying "If you don't like being robbed, you should give away your house, and everything you own". The Internet doesn't belong to Google and Facebook, it isn't theirs to decide how it should be used.

      Yes it is unless you do something to stop it

      They offer services - optional services. No one is forcing anyone to use FB or anything made by google. There are alternatives - and there is always the option of just not using the services. You put blinds over your windows, so why would you expect people to not peek another way if you leave yourself vulnerable?

      FB is useless but google really is the best search engine in town.

    • @brenden9758

      lol No one is saying don't use phones and computers if you have a privacy issue, they are saying don't use Facebook and Google if this is such a big problem for you. These companies need to make money, keep it up with your regulations after regulations and you will soon be paying a monthly fee to facebook and google and everything else. Horrible analogy BTW.

    • @glorfification
      @glorfification 6 лет назад

      That's the whole point - it doesn't matter whether or not you "choose" to use Facebook and Google. Even if you never log into Facebook again, or if you never logged into Facebook to begin with, Facebook will continue to use you. And I expect the same privacy protection enjoyed by the Mark Zuckerbergs of the world, every day, for all of us.

    I mean of course it's inappropriate for facebook to help fake news organizations spread lies but ads are ads simple as that. And yes some ads are more annoying than others but thats just life
    5 particular ads targets towards one person need not necessarily mean anything it could be just that 5 ads towards one person is more effective

    And now I'll be seeing ads for curling stones... Wonder if I'll get ads for a gay curling club too, which would be awkward to join given that I'm not gay, but groups like that have always seems friendly and happy, so what would be the worst that could happen?

    Those looking to prevent tracking and advertisements such as this should use add-in's like Ghostery, it won't stop all of the spam and tracking taking place but it will prevent most of it.

    Provided you grasp the nature of how Google's "ad sense" (or similar techniques of other outfits like Facebook) works in practice, then you're much less likely to get sucked into the potential rabbit holes that are always being conjured up based on your recent search history. Same goes for RUclips, which can quite rapidly create a "bubble" that essentially delivers via your subscriptions or choice of topic, only opinions that cater to one's confirmation bias or pre-existing notions.

    in the meantime, you can still unplug from a lot. and i refuse to buy products from any company that operates that way.

    Always use incognito for anything that's marketable, or that's sensitive private info.

    • @bluesteel8376
      @bluesteel8376 6 лет назад

      Incognito just stops your web browser from storing your browsing history on your machine. It does not stop what Rick is talking about.

    Any information they collect is freely given. Be stupid with your information and it'll be used against you. Its been like that since the beginning of time. There are many simple and easy ways to block companies from collecting your information, but you have to stop giving it away to them first.

  • @McRocket

    I use DuckDuckGo (search engine) and Brave (web browser).
    They are both free, do a great job and protect me from data mining, ads, etc..
    You DON'T need to regulate the internet or FB, Google, etc.
    You just have to not be lazy/follow the crowd and look for alternatives.
    Love the rant, btw.
