    Back in the 90s, my mom had a '93 Cherokee like this but with fog lights. I remember her passing a Taurus in a no-pass zone while taking my brother and me to elementary school, and they got into a little street race because the guy didn't want to be passed, but that 4.0L dusted his ass. 😂😂

    Long live the Cherokee. Having grown up around them I can say they are an SUV like no other. The Explorer is also nice but the XJ Cherokee is an icon that lives to this day.

    I have both, I would drive my explorer on a road trip, and my xj thru a creek, two feet of snow, middle of nowhere dirt mountain road, up a 45 degree climb, and repeat for 300,000 miles. The explorer is more comfortable on a long drive that's it...

    • @stinkycheese804
      @stinkycheese804 8 лет назад +2

      +justsomeguytoyou They both had a long list of repairs needed to keep them on the road for a normal vehicle lifespan. The Jeep's I4 was indeed more reliable, but Ford's old pushrod V6 wasn't all that bad either. Frankly either engine was the less likely place you'd need repairs compared to suspension or tranny on both of them. Goes with the nature of the beast that 4WD vehicles had those issues.

      I'm not sure if you've heard our "It'll fold like a taco" jokes and took them seriously or what. I've been around the XJ community for years the most damage I've heard of that was due to the subframe offroad was a side window popping out.
      Most people spend 100$ on overkill frame stiffeners before it even gets to that point. Your "rip itself apart" claim is baseless. The rock crawling we do here far exceeds the trail riding you have.

    Cars were obviously pretty boring in the 80s and most of the 90s. How often did newer Top Gear episodes do segments on Jeep Cherokees? It's usually the new Pagani, maybe an episode on why Bentleys cost as much as they do, or a race between Euro supercars from the 70s. Not too many run o' the mill American SUV's with no real performance potential of any kind.
