  • Watch me upgrade the stator and regulator/rectifier on my 2006 Honda CRF450X, to upgraded Baja Designs units. I'll show where some of the instructions in the Baja Designs kit fall short, and other helpful tips.

    I just ordered the same radiators, are you happy with those? Any issues? Great video keep them coming!

    • @brianmoto427

      They initially arrived bent and I emailed the seller about it. Seller ended up refunding me the entire cost and I carefully bent them back in my vice. So far, the addition of the oversize radiators and the Tusk universal fan have helped tremendously with overheating issues- the bike rarely gets over 210ºF now. Wish I had time to make more videos, this one was just for fun. Maybe someday!

    Is it applicable sir to install stator from Bajaj?

    Thanks for the video...
    Have a question though.... Does Baja Design tell you to replace the 15 amp fuse with a 30 amp fuse?? I find this discomforting.... That wiring on the fuse holder is Not big enough and Is Not rated for 30 amps. Even with the 150 watt stator the Maximum amperage generated is only 11 amps. There is NO need to use a 30 amp fuse. Sadly, I find a lot of their engineering information to Not be of the highest caliber....
    And Yes, I do have an engineering degree and was Superintendent of Process Control Engineering for The Dow Chemical Company..

    • @brianmoto427
      @brianmoto427  3 года назад +1

      Yes, the 30A fuse is per Baja Designs instructions. I certainly don’t disagree with you, particularly on the mechanical engineering side, as their instructions and fitment of the squadron light and the regulator/rectifier completely missed the mark and I had to find my own way to mount them. When I inquired, they essentially said I should modify their hardware to make it fit the bike.

    Hi, Now that the headlight is running on DC power... Have you noticed any difference in the light output of the head light??
    OR do you have plans to change/improve the headlight??
    Thanks Again...

      Hey Bob, I upgraded the headlight to the Baja Designs Squadron Sport, and wired it along with my radiator fan for keyed power direct from the battery via two relays. Never ran the stock headlight on the new stator, I just terminated those leads on the Oem harness and sealed/tucked them away.

    Great video man. I'm thinking of doing this to my x so I can run a squadron led, heated grips and a radiator fan. Would this upgrade for what I want?

    • @brianmoto427
      @brianmoto427  3 года назад +1

      Yes, this is what you would need to run those accessories. I did the stator upgrade to help offset the power consumption of a radiator fan and a Baja Designs headlight. It’s a good kit, I recommend it, zero problems since install.

      Haven't had any grounding issues, I wired the headlight direct from the battery via a switch a relay. Are you using the stock AC headlight wiring?

  • @hanexio

    Nice video, my bike came with a stator rewind from Baja designs, and a street legal kit. I removed the kit and all switches I added a squadron pro, should I run the light directly from the stator or from the battery?

    • @brianmoto427
      @brianmoto427  3 года назад +1

      Hi Victor. I'm running mine from the battery. I actually have it run through a 12v relay so that I can have switched power via my key switch. If your regulator/rectifier has specific outputs for headlight, I don't see why you couldn't run your light from there. I suppose in theory you may loose out on battery charging potential if you pull current from the Reg/Rec before it has a chance to charge the battery. I'm no expert, so probably best to call Baja Designs to make sure. Good luck with your build and thanks for watching my video.

    Hi, I have a stock 2011 kx250f that I want to make street legal, my question to you is, if I were to upgrade stators would I need a battery to store the extra power? And could I run a 12V headlight, taillights and blinkers off a 12v battery? Or would I need to upgrade

    • @brianmoto427
      @brianmoto427  Год назад

      Hey man, I don't know much about the KX250F, but typically for a street legal setup you will want a small 12V battery to store excess power generated from the stator and to power your lights when the engine is off- in case you stall at a stoplight for example. Stator feeds a regulator/rectifier which converts AC to DC current, and that feeds both the onboard lighting as well as charges the reserve 12V battery. Hope this helps and good luck with your build.
