    No need to disassemble the gear for that leak. The input seal is easily changed on the truck. The torsion bar o-ring that leaks in then worm shaft is also easy. JB weld the end of the input shaft closed. It’s a TRW approved repair.

      @@halfmoon5022 yes some people weld it off. That works better actually and you’ll be good forever. 👌👌

      @@jayebzzz338 I welded it up. No more leak! Disconnected the batteries naturally, then sanded it down a bit with sand paper just to clean it up.

    No you can’t, it has to all come apart. Sorry but I know it seems easy but it’s not. Good luck brother.

    If having issues steering could this be a sign that a rebuild is needed?

    Great video.
    Mine is leaking from the top of the input shaft. Can the harbor freight o ring be replaced without removing steering box from truck? There are no other leaks. Thanks!

      Brian Salty , I don’t think you can. I found it to be easier to take it off first. Thanks for the comment, glad I could help.

      I've welded several up so they will never leak I feel bad for who ever has to rebuild them in the future

      @dubba85 can one really arc weld just the very tip in the center? Mine leaks from there and I have JB welded it and even melted plastic into it. It holds for a month then leaks again.

    I hoping to see a rebuild.. what the heck.. You could have shown the video as you were taking it apart so it could show the Good, the bad and the ugly. Then showing to put it back together..

    • @Thetowguy77

      There is a pin that holds it in. Have to take a small punch and knock it out. Hopefully I’m answering your question.

      You have to buy tool J-37464. You can Google it and purchase it online. Also Google " TRW Steering Gear Service Manual " and it will tell you with diagrams how to take worm gear out the top of steering gear. I used the tool, but using a ratchet wrench to pull was too hard so I used a hammer to tap the end of the tool counter clockwise and it loosend . I was very happy. Take the appropriate size punch to tap out pin, have to tap really hard and it will slowly come out. Be safe, all the best.

    • @grantgordon3209

      Also when you get the pin out, remember the orientation of the shaft before pulling it out. There is a single ball in it that will fall out so pull shaft out in a container. That ball can only fit in the hole with the slot above it

    I have a similar box... and it's leaking from the center of the input shaft... What seal is in there?

    • @Thetowguy77
      @Thetowguy77  6 лет назад +1

      It’s a o ring, I had to get it from harbor freight. In a o ring kit.

    • @turboryan
      @turboryan 6 лет назад

      The Warrior i guess that it is the part that is held together with the pin, that you say not to take apart. The o ring you sanded down. Anyway thanks for the fast reply. I appreciate it and the video man!

    • @Thetowguy77
      @Thetowguy77  6 лет назад +1

      turboryan hello, if it’s leaking out the tip top of the steering gear then you must knock out the pin in the neck and replace that o ring. It’s not in the seal kit but it’s at harbor freight tool in the seal kits they have. Good luck and thanks.
