  • In this video, I demonstrate the loudness and sound characteristics of the silent violin compared to an acoustic violin with 3 sources: the E-Violin's output, a mic placed in the room, and a mic placed in the other room behind the door, then I examine in detail the violin and its accessories and give my take on who this would be right and wrong for.
Edit: I discovered this after making the video, deepening the nut slots greatly improves playablilty.

Thank you for this video. I have spent far too long looking for a silent violin review video that actually compares the sound as heard by others for the silent violin versus a traditional one. Your video was the first one out of several that gave this vital information. Thank you once again! I have liked and subscribed to your channel. You are doing God's work. Also, you are handsome. No homo.

You can use a rubber mute on a electric violin which helps mute it some more if you want that.

I think the main thing you need to focus on is keeping your beats even. Your rhythm is rushed sometimes. Also when you switch strings, try not to be moving your bow at the same time. Finally, make sure you keep your bow straight. Keeping your right wrist loose helps a lot with this. What helped me was getting a clothespin and pinning it onto a string and playing like that for a while. I wouldn't keep it so tight. If you keep it too tight, it'll be too bouncy and too hard to control and keep on the strings. Also, make sure you play mostly towards the middle and use the whole bow. You'll get a crunchy type of sound, as you've been getting, if you play towards the frog. Keeping speed in your bow will also help you control it. You should keep your left wrist straight too as not doing that will keep you from doing good vibrato later, and will just make your wrist hurt. Make sure you have a good grip with the chin rest and I recommend getting a shoulder rest for it to help with that. Then you won't have to hold up your violin with your other hand, you'll be able to let it relax.
Just some tips, these things don't come naturally and will feel really weird sometimes, but it'll be worth it and you'll see improvement in no time if you keep those things in mind.
I wish I had an electric violin now. I hate practicing and having others be able to hear me, as I don't live alone.

how about mute?, i use artino mute, it mute quite well, not as good as "steel mute" but still much better than rubber one and also it keep the tone, not like steel one
but i do hate how it obstruct my view to the string

would you honestly recommend this violin, in your opinion?

If you can set up a violin, trim the bridge, and file the nut yourself, then yes. It is a good practice violin.

Can you play silently through your headphones only?

Yes, it's not entirely silent, but you won't be heard in the other room
