  • Pueblo County School District 70, located in Pueblo, Colorado, suffered a major data breach after falling victim to a ransomware attack. The data breach dates back over 15 years and compromised personal information for thousands of current and former students and staff.
According to officials with District 70 in Pueblo, Colorado, it was discovered earlier this year that personal information dating back to 1991 had been compromised after a ransomware attack.
The superintendent, Ronda Rein, was contacted by the CIA in the spring of 2024 alerting them that 15 years' worth of personal data had been accessed, including information from 1991 all the way through 2006. Rein said this data had been stored on old servers owned by the district for many years.
Unfortunately, the district did not properly delete or remove this sensitive information as servers were replaced over time.
Personal information that was compromised includes names, addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, and social security numbers of both past and present students as well as staff members. While the exact number impacted is unknown, Rein confirmed it involved some students and staff.
