LSV has commented before that Tom is a really sharp team drafter and good at hooking other players and you can see that on display here. Really enjoyed hearing his analysis about people's draft tendencies and what he felt like Sandy and others were on based on tendencies/what he passed/what wheeled.
I would love to see Tom back on the channel again! When that happens, his keyboard, mouse, and discord notifications not being in the audio would be a sizable improvement.

Always like me some LSV drafts but I really enjoyed seeing Tom here too. It's nice to see some different takes on the format and Tom has a really good eye for team dynamics. Would love to see co-drafting with both of you as well.
I would love to see Luis and Tom do a campfire Friday draft where both sides of the match are recorded. Tom, the loud keyboard sounds were really abrasive, but I found your commentary informative and play educational-winds of abandoning the dragon while Wheel of Fortune was on the stack was great! You’ve obviously watched a number of Luis’s drafts so the points you made comparing your decisions with what you thought he might do was also a very welcomed perspective.
That's for this opportunity to see Tom's playstyle and thought process. His mastery is respectable, now I have better idea why it's so tough to win against him. If you need another guest,SId like to see Sandydog in action 😊
Currently 24 mins into the video and I must say, I'm really impressed. Not a lover of Tom's persona on Twitter from minimal exposure over time... However, his drafting skills and presentation are really excellent here. Luis is obviously one of the GOATs when it comes to talking through his drafts and play, so it's a tall order to try match him on his channel. Not only does Tom hold his own here, I believe he maybe even surpasses Luis in some areas. His awareness of the draft and cards that he could table were on the money, and I really liked the predicting of which players could be on which deck. That little interaction with the player who took Emrakul, thus premeditating Sneak was also very insightful. One other thing I think Tom did extremely well here... He talked through the value of cards on their merits, and did less "auto-picking" than Luis does. Luis does a great job talking through the board too (again, one of the GOATs), but I find he's very set in his ways and pick orders, and tends to make "blinkers" picks like LED in spots where he should be better judging mid-level playables that will be like 6/10 in his deck. Kudos Luis, I really like this idea and encourage more in the future from time to time!
This is such an awesome change of pace I love seeing someone else point of view. I would love to see LSV and Tom do a BK and Luis style duel draft. ALSO probably not super easy but would love a double up load where the both of you are in the same pod and we get to see both point of views and how differently you guys draft compared to each other! That would be super cool. Also obligatory lurrus comment about Tom not slamming it lmao
2:10:13 I doubt Tom will see this, but for future knowledge the Vaultborn has a finality counter on it when it comes back which creates a replacement effect to exile instead of dying
This draft made it make sense why Tom crushed me both the team drafts I've played against him in hahah Love the special guest, didn't know you guys were highschool friends.
I'm just at the end of the drafting part and it's great so far. Really cool to see how another top player picks and tracks the pod selection, great commentary making it insightful.
Tom has been my favorite pro since I saw him play in GP (I forgot Indianapolis?) where he played legacy against Kenny Castro, and of course since pro tour gatecrash such an awesome standard format. Glad to see him here!
Very cool ! like every said the draft part was well done I also enjoyed the transparency of thinking through the lines. Win or lose I'll be here or the content this channel is great thanks a bunch
Hey Tom, years ago at GP Hoth, I lost the event playmat by ron spencer and you saw me looking for it and took me up to the judges table where you had taken it. Thanks again for that
Passing the Lurrus seemed crazy to me. Ten minutes in and it is disgusting how much table control that move gave you. 1000IQ plays, tom. GGs! I love that you take notes, refer to them and clearly outline your thought processes. The only piece of constructive criticism I have is that you talk FAST. I don't mind, I can follow along, but you are dealing with advanced lines and thoughts that could overwhelm players of lesser skill, and these are the players that need these thoughts the most.
Enjoy Tom's voice. He does words good! Would like to see a draft like this that includes LSV as an opponent. Show us how to hook someone into Lurrus, then take all the Lurrus cards.

Love a Tom Martell draft video! Used to watch them all the time! It was a real blast from the past to see it over 2 hours, too. That’s a Martell draft - nothing if not thorough! Curious to see if he’s using similar styles to back in the day.
Insight into team drafting and what ques to look for and think about was very enlightening. Thanks for sharing your knowledge in this guest appearance Tom
great draft, would love to see some more! I think in g1 vs sandy you could have fetched a surveil land with that arid mesa to help dig for land 4? Though i imagine you might not have because you wanted double red
Seriously Tom, if you don't make more content, I will take every opportunity to ridicule you. LSV is great and all and very entertaining, but he only scratches the surface of his decision making. I'm not promising riches beyond your wildest fantasies, but you'll most certainly have an audience that's far more appreciative of the subtleties of "the craft".
Little bummed it wasn't dual commentary with the added on person driving like the BK draft. those are my favorite but still interesting to see another perspective either way.
Martell: Fine, we'll do it your way. Martell: LSV learns his own draft take 11. Action! LSV: Wow, no power again, unlucky, but I'm obviously gonna slam this Lurrus P1P1. Martell: CUT! We're done, you blew it Luis!
In game 1 against sandydog, I think it might've been correct to end step crack the arid mesa grab shadowy backstreet just so you have the surveil/extra look to try and hit a land? Not too sure if it wouldve panned out any differently but it's always good food for thought, esp. when you're thinking about if there was anything else that could've gone differently. If there is a land then you get to palace jailer the sheoldred and keep the jailer for a bit; however, if there isn't a land we can presume it just plays out the same way
Were the game clocks at 35 minutes to account for extra time for commentary? I think Luis normally plays at the standard 25 minutes, but that Round 1 could have been a lot more rushed at the end if the clock was a factor.

These guys rate it really highly. I think in a public MTGO league you can wheel the Priest some of the time in that spot, but you won’t wheel the Ajani.
I think that pick is very close. I am passing Necromancy and Vaultborn and Lurrus, all cards that Containment Priest is quite good against (Vaultborn for Natural Order / Flash / Reanimate), so I think there is a decent chance that this pack will drive the table to have 3 decks that are cheating in creatures. On the flip side, I already have a Fable, meaning Ajani can deal damage (I think I note this at some point in the draft) so I should have thought about it more.
@@TomMartell Is this also a "different tpye of draft" thing? As in you would always take Ajani in a League/Feeder League and more likely in a 64m Vegas draft too and this being a Team Draft/Discord Draft changes things quite a bit? That actually would make sense to me too.
@@phl4423 I don't have a strong opinion right now on which I would take in a normal 8 person pod draft. Containment Priest just wins games by itself that few other cards win; Ajani clearly very efficient card and quite powerful once you flip it. I would not be surprised if either was the "correct" pick; I probably default to Priest but it wouldn't shock me if I feel differently after more reps with Ajani.

31:03 isn't there something to be said about taking emperor instead of robber? You can then exile etali and put it on the board, so you also end up with 2 attackers but you get an etali trigger as well. More Backseating: At 1:30:14 why not just put in the adversary and gain 3 more from lifelink? Barring any more direct damage or forced draw, you end up at 2 life even with tarpit coming in, no? If they have snuff out that would be bad, but you did not seem to have been even considering it.
I was hoping this was going to be you guys drafting together! Some sort of discussion together about the draft/games/format in general would have also been cool. Either way, I'm happy to see a different perspective on a draft from a highly skilled player. Also a personal preference thing - I'd prefer to see more individual drafts rather than team drafts cause most competitive events are individual drafts.
