    This is fantastically funky. I would LOVE to see a video of Gadd playing 'I Wish' with Stevie Wonder. That kind of funk would be illegal in some states.

  • @331paradiddle

    Gadd is a groove machine. Never does he play a meaningless note. Always serving the song and setting up the band. That's how you make music on the drums. Not a bunch of mindless speed chops for the sake of speed. Sounds easy don't it. Give it a try. Knowing what to play when, is more important than some technical chops exercise.

    Gadd is so fluid. Sweet to hear wonderfulness!!!! It's a little like the Purdy shuffle. It's a solid shuffle without sounding like a standard shuffle. As ONLY the Gaddmyster could play it!!!! Mr. Gadd understands the function of a drummer. Keep solid time, drive the band, make life easy for EVERYONE ELSE in the band, so the band sounds AWESOME!!!! WHEN you can pull THAT off, you're a successful drummer. And as much as Steve Gadd was in demand is a testament to that!!!-

  • @michaelcaplin8969
    @michaelcaplin8969 5 лет назад +7

    I'm genuinly surprised and baffled by how Steve Gadd sounds like he's constantly rushing a little bit and incrasing the BPM constantly throughout the whole performance, while actually not increasing the BPM. It's almost like an auditory illusion. Makes for great energy when you feel that it's rushing, but notice that it's still the steady bpm. It's quite satisfying actually.

    • @michaelcaplin8969
      @michaelcaplin8969 5 лет назад +2

      @@blessedman8203 I never commented on his musicality on this piece, or how soulful it sounds. My comment which you can read above is about the auditory illusion that can be heard here, where it sounds like he constantly raises the BPM slightly the entire song through, even though the BPM is the same from start to finish. It's quite incredible, and I've never heard another drummer do it. I don't think he was aware of even doing it, but to be honest it's quite amazing, and it makes for great energy - INFINITELY much more so than in the original - quite tame - recording.

    • @michaelcaplin8969
      @michaelcaplin8969 5 лет назад

      @@blessedman8203 "With all due respect to your opinion and observations, it has nothing to do with BPM". This is wrong on your part. My comment and it's obervation has EVERYTHING to do with BPM. Your comment - although a perfectly valid opinion - is completely out of place as a response to my comment, which had NOTHING to do with what you were talking about. You might as well have responded talking about how the water pumps on Argentinian firetrucks work :)

    Recently, I heard Steve Gadd doing an E Minor Shuffle. The vid is up here on YT somewhere. The other comment was Steve Gadd lives in the shuffle. Throughout this and others, Steve Gadd makes the pocket and sits right there. Unreal. One of the major reasons this arrangement really cooks!

    • @kathleenkenyon4074

      Remarkably he sounds as though he is very slightly pushing the beat at times and then brings it back never leaving the groove and demonstrating that every beat is a full beat long, and you can stress or lay back within it if you are good. Steve Gadd is the best...

    I think he means something like: The world of drumming is different than the world of music. You get me? I mean, non-musicians don't care who's drumming or playing guitar or whatever, but they only care about the singer (in general). I'm a drummer myself and I know (with many other musicians around) what Steve Gadd has done do music. that's just unbelievable. Something that in the drumming-world everybody knows, but in the music-world there are only a few. You get me? Btw what an awesome video:)
