I love this guy. Stevie is the consummate musician. Steve Gadd can groove with anyone and is also in a league of his own. Steve is one of my all around favorite drummers in the land. Keep on singing and grooving STEVIE- the whole world loves you man.
This is fantastically funky. I would LOVE to see a video of Gadd playing 'I Wish' with Stevie Wonder. That kind of funk would be illegal in some states.
Gadd is a groove machine. Never does he play a meaningless note. Always serving the song and setting up the band. That's how you make music on the drums. Not a bunch of mindless speed chops for the sake of speed. Sounds easy don't it. Give it a try. Knowing what to play when, is more important than some technical chops exercise.
Two all time GREATS, Gadd and Stevie, with future great Pino, shaking the entire building down to the ground! WOW! What a FEEL'N ! That's MUSIC! That's LIFE!
Stevie to me is the all time consummate musician. This video with Steve Gadd on drums is just a groove with in a groove God Bless Stevie and one of my all time favorite drummers Steve Gadd. What a jam!
Gadd is so fluid. Sweet to hear wonderfulness!!!! It's a little like the Purdy shuffle. It's a solid shuffle without sounding like a standard shuffle. As ONLY the Gaddmyster could play it!!!! Mr. Gadd understands the function of a drummer. Keep solid time, drive the band, make life easy for EVERYONE ELSE in the band, so the band sounds AWESOME!!!! WHEN you can pull THAT off, you're a successful drummer. And as much as Steve Gadd was in demand is a testament to that!!!-
I LOVE THIS ONE !!!.. The 2 STEVIES play and sing in a High-GrOOving FUNK manner... STEVE WONDER and STEVE GADD = Adorable Music. Enjoy these FUNKY Heart-Beats! ;-) mm'65
OK. I like the RHCP's cover. It was very well done..... But SH*T.... I'm crying this is so good!!!! THIS is the way you lay it down!!!!! This absolutely ROCKS!!!! What a freaking talent Stevie is!
This feels sooo good, it’s bringing me to tears. There’s playing soulful and then there’s playing from the soul! The conversation these great musicians are engaged in is soul inspiring.
+1 .. Listened to this more than once .. Mr. Steve Gadd is a grove machine ... That other dude's songwriting & singing isn't bad at all .... As for bassist Pino Palladino...Smokin!
I'm genuinly surprised and baffled by how Steve Gadd sounds like he's constantly rushing a little bit and incrasing the BPM constantly throughout the whole performance, while actually not increasing the BPM. It's almost like an auditory illusion. Makes for great energy when you feel that it's rushing, but notice that it's still the steady bpm. It's quite satisfying actually.
@@blessedman8203 I never commented on his musicality on this piece, or how soulful it sounds. My comment which you can read above is about the auditory illusion that can be heard here, where it sounds like he constantly raises the BPM slightly the entire song through, even though the BPM is the same from start to finish. It's quite incredible, and I've never heard another drummer do it. I don't think he was aware of even doing it, but to be honest it's quite amazing, and it makes for great energy - INFINITELY much more so than in the original - quite tame - recording.
@@blessedman8203 "With all due respect to your opinion and observations, it has nothing to do with BPM". This is wrong on your part. My comment and it's obervation has EVERYTHING to do with BPM. Your comment - although a perfectly valid opinion - is completely out of place as a response to my comment, which had NOTHING to do with what you were talking about. You might as well have responded talking about how the water pumps on Argentinian firetrucks work :)
Gadd can play anything for anyone. Nothing he can't do. And the fills he DOESN'T play are the reason he gets the big gigs. So much self awareness and playing to the SONG. Would've loved to see this live.
Recently, I heard Steve Gadd doing an E Minor Shuffle. The vid is up here on YT somewhere. The other comment was Steve Gadd lives in the shuffle. Throughout this and others, Steve Gadd makes the pocket and sits right there. Unreal. One of the major reasons this arrangement really cooks!
Remarkably he sounds as though he is very slightly pushing the beat at times and then brings it back never leaving the groove and demonstrating that every beat is a full beat long, and you can stress or lay back within it if you are good. Steve Gadd is the best...
I've followed Gadd since I first heard him......just a Monster..... at minute 4:00 when Clapton turns around and shakes his head I almost pissed my pants,,,,,hats off too MR. GADD
Did you know that Stevie wrote and recorded many of his own drum tracks..? He played drums very eloquently for someone who's not a "drummer", on many of his hit albums.
I think he means something like: The world of drumming is different than the world of music. You get me? I mean, non-musicians don't care who's drumming or playing guitar or whatever, but they only care about the singer (in general). I'm a drummer myself and I know (with many other musicians around) what Steve Gadd has done do music. that's just unbelievable. Something that in the drumming-world everybody knows, but in the music-world there are only a few. You get me? Btw what an awesome video:)
How many awesome artists can Steve Gadd play for? Did he clone himself twice? Not only is his playing totally awesome, he seems to be everywhere all the time!
@plopk Stevie --not a drummer ? That's questionable after seeing him behind a kit laying it down ! Love how Steve picks up the 12/8 inside the groove and accents and fills with it. Excellent as always.
@naleyan WOW ! spoken like a true GUITAR player ! Acknowledging that a song could be written around the abilities of the performer who will be playing it, ANOTHER EARTH SHATTERING DISCOVERY ! I'll not waste your time with degrading statements or such, but instead I will say that I just can't wait till your next recording, DVD or CD comes out and especially that instructional book (I'll bet it'l be great).... gee just think for 39 years I've been wasting so much time studying.......THANKS !
Stevie, Gadd and Pino.....now that's a serious rhythm section!
You don't wanna mess with that rhythm section!
Makes me want to jump up and down on my bed like a kid.
I love this guy. Stevie is the consummate musician. Steve Gadd can groove with anyone and is also in a league of his own. Steve is one of my all around favorite drummers in the land. Keep on singing and grooving STEVIE- the whole world loves you man.
Steve Gadd IS .
This is fantastically funky. I would LOVE to see a video of Gadd playing 'I Wish' with Stevie Wonder. That kind of funk would be illegal in some states.
This man's voice is totally immune to aging! unbelievable!
That push in the first chorus @1:37 floored me the first time I heard it!
Absolutely, such a musical decision in that moment
just spotted that ,thanks floored me too
Jheeeez my phone's literally covered in butter after watching this...that was SO mfkng smooth my guy.
Gadd is spot. You know when someone is in pocket when you feel the space between the notes. Pure awesome.

Still true to this day bruh!!!
What you said x 10,000
Bravo ! bang on mate
Self-taught drummer; totally agree. Totally.
less is more...it only comes with time...right on
Holy Gadd I just spilled my Pino watching this. No Wonder, it’s groovin as hell
OH MY Gadd
Two all time GREATS, Gadd and Stevie, with future great Pino, shaking the entire building down to the ground! WOW! What a FEEL'N ! That's MUSIC! That's LIFE!
TWO "ALL TIME GREATS" OF SOUL!!!!!!! & JAZZ!!!!!!! MUSIC! AND THE JAZZMASTER!!!!!!! (PP) TO BE PRECISE! AND THE REST FIGURES! AFTER THAT!
The drop to the final verse, just after 3:20, is absolutely monster.
Stevie to me is the all time consummate musician. This video with Steve Gadd on drums is just a groove with in a groove God Bless Stevie and one of my all time favorite drummers Steve Gadd.
What a jam!
Stevie and Steve! 😂❤
Pure groove...all feel...raw emotion...Stevie bringin' it like he was 25 again!
Best version of Higher Ground I've heard. SW, Steve Gadd and that wonderful background singer killed it!
The two Steve's finally meet :)
Uplifting.
How can you NOT like this?
+Tom B Word. Dweebs are hiding everywhere.
Mental
Pathetic trolls looking for attention. Sad.
Cause you can barely even get to see Gadd would be my guess
A person needs a soul to dig SOUL.
Steve Gadd y Pino Palladino son una pared ! El groove es increíble! Estas cosas que escucho cada día me hacen amar mas la música!
hard to believe - this large band rocks the stadium like it was as small r & b club - fantastic! And watch the backup singer...
Ridiculous groove and power all around… I never tire of watching Gadd.
I like the excitement that Gadd is adding with the crashes/punches while staying tasteful.
A simple but very effective pulsation, and a great groove Steve Gadd !
Staying pretty faithful to the original idea … which, if I’m not mistaken, was played by SW himself ☝️ Great either way 🎯
The Tuning of these drums is a dream for a soundman!!!
Wow! Few drummers can shuffle like Steve Gadd!!!
This is, without competion, the BEST video on RUclips!
Thank you so much for uploading!
It's hard to describe in words how good this is...............
Words can't express the magnitude of talent! 5 thumbs up!
Man, been a while since I've heard this song. Great hearing it live. Love when vocalists show true range.
Stevie Wonder, Steve Gadd...but there's Pino Palladino too!
Thank you!
Really where is he
You can tell that stance anywhere
Thats some serious rhythm section right there!
& let not forget Marcus Miller !
Steve Gadd is to drumming what Stevie Wonder is to music. Revolutionary! Game changer! Perfection! Pure soul!

What a brutal groove. Gadd doing what he does best.
Wonder and Gadd - two of the best ever. Neither ever seems to age.
I LOVE THIS ONE !!!.. The 2 STEVIES play and sing in a High-GrOOving FUNK manner... STEVE WONDER and STEVE GADD = Adorable Music. Enjoy these FUNKY Heart-Beats! ;-) mm'65
Holy shit this is the best version of this song I've ever heard.
Original version
Stevie Wonder better than ever ... amazing!
Two of my favourite musicians of all time. Such talent, and showmanship. It will be a sad day when they both pas away.
They will live forever and their influence will go even farther!
They're unlikely to die on the same day, this we can be thankful for.
Just listened to Innervisions all the way through on headphones. The experience was almost spiritual.
Gadd was always this funky! :)
...unbelievable, just knocks me off my feet! Thanks so much Stevie, once again laughing through my tears! Precious gift!
Awesome video! I can't believe I just found two of my all time favorite musicians.
Steve Gadd is to music what Stevie is to music!!!
Man, this might be THE best "contemporary" version of this song I've heard him do! All the background vocals, the organ stabs...everything's spot-on!
The conversation these great musicians are engaged in is soul inspiring.
the "Ziljian Grab" at the end...Gadd O Mighty!
I remember many years ago Pino being asked who his favourite bassplayers were and he mentioned Stevie. Great to see him playing with Stevie.
+1 .. Listened to this more than once .. Mr. Steve Gadd is a grove machine ... That other dude's songwriting & singing isn't bad at all .... As for bassist Pino Palladino...Smokin!
Everything about this is just ridiculously good!
What a voice, what a range, even at his age. He’s a modern marvel, for sure.
This is what’s makes America good, intelligent, compassionate, visionary, creative and a future for everyone❣️🌿 thanks for sharing ❤️
You mean the Continent?
Good Lord, Steve Gadd lays down the baddest groove I've ever heard. god DAMN that guy plays. And what a song by Stevie. wow.
Adding super groove to a sound that is already very catchy.
Woaaa!!! What a JAM!!!! I have heard several versions of this song but this one tops them all. Thank you for sharing.
@jerrywitaj. One of the best song wirtters Wonder and one of the best drummers in Gadd. What more could you want. Class top class stuff.
Stevie Wonder And Steve Gadd. VERY EXPLOSIVE.
I hear yah loud and clear.....two Steves, two groove masters. DAMN!!!!!

Love this funky keyboard, so goood with the groove.
They don't call him the Wonder Boy for nothin 🤩
The piano and the drums are speaking! Terrific! *__*
Its great to see Stevie Wonder backing up the great Steve Gadd!
That was brilliant 👏
Gadd can play anything for anyone. Nothing he can't do. And the fills he DOESN'T play are the reason he gets the big gigs. So much self awareness and playing to the SONG. Would've loved to see this live.
Calm down. I'm paying compliments here to 2 fantastic musicians. Chill.
OMG Stevie is on fire at 3:15
How can a human being groove this hard??
F...n Gadd is amazing!!!!!
Stevie wonder and Steve Gadd. What a combination! Beautiful!

WOW! Stevie backed by Gadd. Or actually -- Gadd backed up by Stevie! Never new they played together. Thanks!
Not only groove...the fills are also amazing!
グルーヴだけじゃない、フィルインも抜群。
That voice and rhythm...........magical.
The talent on that stage that night....amazing.
I've followed Gadd since I first heard him......just a Monster..... at minute 4:00 when Clapton turns around and shakes his head I almost pissed my pants,,,,,hats off too MR. GADD
A Gadd quote: Fills bring the thrills but groove pays the bills. True that
I swear, as Stevie's gotten older, his vocal range has expanded!
Stevie is amazing, Taipei 88 ❤
Fantastic...and the ending is sick!
spectacular
Stevie so comfortable and just enjoying himself to play and sing over the groove laid out by a 'pocketmaster', Steve Gadd. 👍
Did you know that Stevie wrote and recorded many of his own drum tracks..?
He played drums very eloquently for someone who's not a "drummer", on many of his hit albums.
Stevie was /is a drummer…since about 7 or 8 yrs of age

As a drummer, I feel you.. SG is definitely on my list of favorites.

Go online and check out his discography-mind blowing!
Very strong pocket drumming. That fill at 2:16 is Godlike.
Thankyou for posting this! It's my favourite version of the song!
Also need to add it's PINO PALLADINO on BASS :)
Mr. Wonder gives me the chills.
Man! this is Steve Gadd!! Brillant
