No no can you help me with that sir
Hi! Yes, I'm translate from my lenguage in my head when I'm speaking English.
hi
Thanks Greg yes i do still doing this translate on my head before compose and replying an email so hard because of grammar problem
I'm translating from my subconscious thoughts to English, and so do I for my native language (that is, I'm mostly not using it for THINKING, only for communication, reading, writing etc). I don't think in English, it is totally ridiculous and stupid to actually THINK in some broken language.
You know it's abysmal when people stress TOO much on grammar while most native English speakers don't even see grammar errs as such a big deal. For example - you come across the sentence '' I lived in Germany for one year and a half.'' then you start wondering why that sentence doesn't include the present perfect time tense. You feel like everything you have known so far was wrong, that your basis is absolutely incorrect. I have always been apprehensive ( more fretful lately), because of the times I was wrong when translating something from my language to English, hence that made me believe my speech was tremendously inarticulate. However, good job again!
Totally agree!! To me the main key is don't be ashamed of making mistakes, we're just learning, so let's enjoy it!
Hi Greg, yesterday I found your channel. It's exactly what I've been looking for... I can really understand every single word, your explanations and pronunciation are very distinct and clear. Very helpful in my efforts to improve my English and quit translating from German in my head.
Thanks for the good job you do!
Geht mir ganz genauso.
You are the best English teacher in RUclips who I learned. Thank you so much teacher...
Hello! i'm french and english teacher and I learn from u each time I see your video; thanks!
Great advice Greg, I used to think in Italian before saying something in English but now I don't do it anymore. Can I tell you one thing, I like your sound and pronunciation it is very clear and straight to the point. Bye-bye for now 😀😀😀
I have been learning English since I am 6 years old. I have published scientific articles on American governmental sites and written a PhD thesis in English.
I am trying my best to speak as a native speaker, and I am always frustrated each time there is a word that I don’t know, especially in the News.
The English dictionary just never ends.. 💙
Greg you are the best teacher, ever
i m so happy to hear you how we can thinking in english even we have mistakes.
Thanks a lot¡¡¡¡ I speak, write and read 5 languages, but the truth is I don't do it perfect, I started learning English at the age of twelve but I've never had a teacher so clear as you..., one of the problems is that I had some teachers who were from South America and there we have another mouth position to speak, I AM EIGHTY-FIVE YEARS OLD... And I say THANK YOU VERY MUCH...
Thank you so much teacher Greg, it's amazing how we can describe the main features of something when we don't know the word. And I couldn't agree more with you Greg, we shouldn't worry too much about making mistakes, it's ok because we're learning a new language and also as you said Greg, we should use the words that we already know. And learn some common homonyms could be useful although the context will probably help us undertand the meaning of the words. Many thanks teacher Greg, the best teacher!😊
Thank you, Greg. Lovely expression and a way structured approach. I enjoyed watching! Like!
I translate from Italian to English in my head everytime I have to speak with someone, and now I'm very happy to have found this channel (thanks to my girlfriend's sister). I understand that I'm not the only one that to this and I don't care if I'm going to commit mistakes in the future. I'll improve it, step by step. Thank you! ♥
Mr Greg is not only a good teacher, but also a great psychologist.
💙💛✊🏻🤩👍🏻👍🏻 Have a great day!
Singing, in choir, is a great way to learn languages. Simple, and also "children" lyric in difficult languages..
Thanks Greg, this is the first vedio which give me confidence to speak English, without any problem
Greg please explain me why I understand you 101% but when I gonna watch a movie I reach only 50% or less... thanks and congrats for your perfect manner of teach us, it s awesome!
This is absolutely true. The chunks are the only sentences I can use fluently. And yes, it‘s better to speak wrong than try to recall correct words all the time. It leads to a desaster and embarasses the other person even more
Hi, Greg! You are great!!! I teach English, so I don't translate from my native language into English. But I actually didn't know how to explain it to my students properly) And to help them not to feel frustrated when they speak English in the beginning of their education. Now I know, thanks to you! It is really so easy! Thank you for ALL your videos, they are impressive!) I really enjoy listening to you and getting much useful information!
😁Thanks for these advices, Greg; they have helped me a lot. Greetings from Latin American - Dominican Republic!
I learn whole sentences saying them aloud. 5 days - 300 repetitions per day at least. Later I don't need to translate. I know the meaning of words straight away like in my native language. And also I remember the meaning longer than by learning separate words. This method is called: chunking. It was a real game changer in my learning process and communication skills in English and other languages.
You are the best teacher in the world
Hi Greg, Today I found your Channel, your explanation and content it’s very different to the rest, I speak spanish, so I live in Mexico, and I need improve my pronunciation in English and quit translating from Spanish in my head. Thanks for the good job, it’s very helpful
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us..... You are an excellent teacher..... God bless you.
When I WATCH YOU HERE I THINK, OR BELIEVE, THAT I KOW A LOT, JA,JA, BUT WHEN I WANT TO SPEAK, I TRANSLATE. BOOO. tHANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVICES, (CONSEJOS?) OR SIMPLY, YOUR LESSONS. THEY ARE SO GOOD!!!!
Super explanation Greg!! You just read my mind, I came US 6 years ago, and I started to learn English exactly translating word by word, it was frustrating and unproductive.
You have so much right, we need to focus at the expression, to repeat them and use them, and the idioms are most of them different from your native language to English!!
It is nice to listen your lessons, thank you for your amazing work!!
Appreciate it much!
Carmen from Romania.

Thank you Greg. Intresting lesson.
hi greg you have pure speaking thank you for this understandable speaking
Hi Mister Greg,I believe that to be thinking in one foreign Ianguage the first step is:reconize your mistakes and fixed up them.Second:don't committee it wrong from once, never say that even you is fluently ever it.There are so much possibilities for figure out about this matter.Because the learning is continuining process on,nevermore a product in terminal stage.Feed up your brain with news things every day.Put it right on your mind you'll never turn me fluently about it,unless that you to learn by itself mistakes.
Thanks …. Fantastic
learn English whit you
So very useful this lesson 👌 thanks our teacher chreg
Thanks for another lesson teacher !!
Hi Greg, that's exactly what I try to get across to my students. It's what linguistics call "language strategy" that's to say being up to transmit a concept by going around it. For example if you want to refer to a "bench" but you don't know the word you can arrive to it by saying: the chair/stuff where you can seat in a park or in a public square. I mean, use the words you know to say what you don't know with the proper words.
Good stuff! Can that also be called 'communicative competence or approach'? Focusing more on the message or meaning that you want to transfer rather than on the language itself. Thanks!
@@palmeritarock23 Yes, it is also known as "communication skills"
Thank you for your helps you are a good teacher
Very clear and easy to apply.... thanks!
It comes natural to translate for your own language to the one you are learning, I have an English friend who has been living in Italy for lots of years, when she speaks in Italian , I realize she’s translating
Thank you very much. You've been helpful, I'd love to be abroad to improve my English level. It's harder when you don't know anybody who speaks English in your country. The best way that I found to speak is making small dialog and tell to myself in the mirror. However I'm looking for a visa to travel to U.S.A. in order to make friends and start talking.
Thanks, I will follow these tips for sure
Thanks so much for your class... teacher.
Rosetta Stone is the perfect language learning software, because the software uses images, text, and sound to teach words and grammar by spaced repetition, without translation.
Dynamic immersion is key to successfully learning a language.

Hi Greg, I'm not sure how I ended up on this channel because I'm a native speaker, but my girlfriend is ESL. As I've watched her learn English over the past two years I just want to say that I would have recommended your channel if I knew it existed. This video was EXCELLENT at identifying some key basics about communicating in a foreign language. Great job!
Hi, Greg, You even helped me for my next language what I'd want to know already, it's Finnish. After eight semesters education in the latter language I still have only a basic level. And I did it after your advice. Last October (2022) I even ordered a taxi with your method in Finland. It's a very difficult language.
My son migrated 10 years ago to and has a nine year old son there.
