Remember picking this up after being introduced to Sakura Wars by Project X Zone. Not ashamed to say Gemini Sunrise was enough of a reason at the time, lol. I haven’t regretted a thing, and I’m really looking forward to Shin Sakura Wars!
When I first saw the characters, I thought "This looks like Tales..." then I found out that the character designer for the Sakura Tensei/Sakura Wars was also the character designer behind Team Symphonia games (i.e. Tales of Symphonia and Tales of the Abyss)
This is an old video and I appreciate many will not see thos comment, but for those who do and didn't know already Sega has released a teaser for Sakura Wars 6.
While we’re playing as the Japanese again in Shin Sakura Wars, I’m glad characters from Germany and China revues will appear in the game, possibly setting those countries up as future settings. I’d love to see one from the Oceania or Southeast Asia areas, too, like a Malaysia or Australia revue.
Not that important a market for SEGA, although Brazil should have been back in those days. Considering how big that one was. Also It's "Tokyo, Paris, New York". You only got one right. :P.
I'm playing Shin Sakura Taisen, and I love it, but I think 5's intro is better. In fact, I would have believed this was going to be Shin Sakura Taisen 2 if I didn't know this game existed.
I really hope they keep localizing these now. This game and the game that came after it had somewhat rocky sales, but it's good to see they're going to keep going with these.
I admire second part of SW5 is very good, especially last chapter with Nobunaga, but this is still not same level like in SW1-3. Atleast game is much better than (unfinished and very short) SW4 and Shin. Underrated game, even in Sakura Wars fanbase. I still don't know why Japan hate this game ...
Quite sad, but understandable. Sakura Wars isn't exactly known in the west because by the time this game arrived, PS2's lifespan was at its end. And no english translated SW games prior to V.
@9752matt no it dont appeal to modern gamers plus they dont know what games they want. I dont mind classic and got patience with both good stories and decent gameplay but it is what it is.
I'd buy sakura wars collection if they made ._. Right now I think we only have access to 1st one using retroarch and bettle with fan translation, this game and the most recent.
+burnout02urza What was so wrong with it? My qualms with it lie with the chars not being very American but that's my view as a non-Japanese. Did the Japanese hate it for some other reason?
I liked it, but it did REALLY poorly. I suppose it was because I thought only three of the heroines (Gemini, Rachel and Diana) were appealing. The others were rather less so. Like, one of them is sexually ambiguous, and the other is...I won't say she's a 'black caricature', because she's not. She's actually a fascinating character. But she's not the type you'd want to romance. (And I say this as a Chinese.) I suppose they just weren't as interesting as the Hanagumi/Paris Group. I think the Paris Group had the best heroines, myself.
+burnout02urza I thought the game that came before this as the prequel killed the series or at least brought down the interest in it? The Gemini centered game. Either way, I enjoyed the game, it was nice to finally have a game from the franchise come to the west.
Sega these days couldn't keep a franchise alive if their lives depended on it. They own some of the best and most interesting IPs but they churn out shitty games or none at all.
I don't think the cast themselves was the issue. I think the biggest thing that killed this series was how literally everything was different. I have only went though all of the openings of the different games right now, but the clearest thing was that continuity of it all: They always at one point will have the original theme song and team, and even if they had a new cast, you still had the original cast show up. You also had a 4th game with all of them at once so you truly get to know everyone. Additionally you also don't play as Ichiro, a character you've been for 4 games completely. It was just too much of a change at once. What it really should have been was a spin off game instead of calling it 5, and while I understand the reasoning of it to finally bring the series to America which was good intentions, it left the original players too left out. And plus, it didn't even work until the series was dead. I LOVE Sakura Wars 5, for the obvious reason of it that we finally got to play it and it's my first Sakura Wars game, but it's clear why this failed.
Konami = SEGA Both make weeaboo style game, Kill old IP Metal Gear Solid V = Sakura Wars V Both are unfinished stories, Last great series. (Metal Gear Solid V: Incomplete Mission 51, Sakura Wars V OVA: No 1920s Berlin Combat Revue, No Fifth European Star Division) Metal Gear Survive = New Sakura Wars Different developers have different styles and no old characters. Death Stranding = Iron Harvest Iron Harvest mech, 1920s war reminds of Sakura Wars, Death Stranding reminds of Metal Gear.

@@sungjin008 completely understandable, isn't it a bit a stretch comparing Iron Harvest to Sakura Wars, their gameplay are significantly different. The only thing they share in common that they set in 1920-1930s and they have mechas.
@@sungjin008 Dang. That is some harsh criticism. I have to admit, I really wanted Kosuke Fujishima back (I prefer his art style to Kubo's). But aside from that, I was genuinely interested in a new Sakura Taisen game.
You just gotta love how all the OP songs for this series match the tone of the areas they take place in, it's amazing.
It really is.
It really is too.
Ah, I LOVE seeing how the Japanese represents Americans in their media. It's just always interesting to see.

At least for once they acknowledged that not everyone here is blond-haired and blue-eyed. That's something, i guess.

Yep. And he also did the manga You're Under Arrest and Oh My Goddess.
You kidding right? He is the original artist of Tales of Phantasia (the first in the entire tales of series).
Yeah. It's a shame he isn't involved in the new one.

The combat is better in 5 too imo
Now if only Sakura Wars VI is set in Australia. If we ever get one.

This would have made a great anime series too.
Have this song a full version??? I found one but is like only 4 minutes of instrumental...
Gabriellandon Yes It Does Have The Full Version
Gabriellandon I Can Send It To You If You Want
Yeah, I found it 4 years ago, thanks for your answer, very kind from you...
Looking at how modern the setting here compared to the other Sakura Wars is this set after the Shin aka New Sakura Wars?
No, 5 is set in 30’s America while 6 is set in the 40’s
It's just that Japan in the 20th century took a while to catch up to the modern world aesthetically, that's why 6 looks older than 5.
Project X Zone brought me here...
