Lanegan really is a class act. At several of his solo shows that I’ve attended, I’ve managed to chat with him both before and after the show. Couldn’t have been more friendly. One of my all time favorites without question.
@@thelightbringer807 def not clean here. It was a constant process for mark. I think it was finally around somewheee between 2008 and 2010 where he got clean for good. But I could be wrong.

...one point he looked at us and said "Is this an interview?!". We went through the Screaming Life book & he signed a few pages and cds for us (my Whisky For The Holy Ghost bears the legend - Nick, good talking with you! And I hadn't said a word!). He was real sweet, I offered him a joint and he said "Er, you got just a cigarette?" gave him one and he tore the filter off and smoked it! A real friendly guy... I feel privileged to have met him and chatted... *sigh* =O)
I thought Mark relapsed after the Rated R tour (2001/2002). Or am I getting mixed up with the Songs For The Deaf tour, a year or two later? I always thought it was the Rated R tour...?🤔 But anyway, luckily it wasn't a relapse back onto the heroin, 'just' the crack. And didn't last long either thank fuck! Because the crack is SOOOO much easier to deal with. Not addictive, in my opinion. Well, _yes,_ it *IS,* but it's definitely not as uncomfortable and imprisoning as an opiate addiction is. Speaking with experience from inside a 23 years long 💉intravenous💉 speedball [crack & smack] addiction. I can leave the crack/cocaine out of the spoon if I wish, and it doesn't bother me. As long as I have the heroin the crack always comes second. Always used a lot of everything & anything that came around, but could always stop taking it all just like that, *apart* from the smack! Anyway, this interview is from 2004, so yeah, I thought it was the Rated R tour a few years earlier when he relapsed...?🤔
Good ol' Mark! Back in 2001 my friends and I turned up hours before a QOTSA gig in Folkstone and sat down in the canteen, saw Mark and were like "Mark! Mark! Mark! Can we have a word please?" He sat down with us and we chatted for about 15/20min. We asked him questions about everything! Kurt, Screaming Trees, Queens etc... My two friends did all the talking (we were speeding our nuts off at the time and it was quite obvious we were on something!), he kept grinning his face off at me and at...
His voice is so incredibly amazing and deep and perfect. He's not only one of the greatest singers of his generation, but probably one of the greatest ever! Definitely, a God among men, as it was said.
i love this man soooo much his music is truly amazing and having been a fan for years its nice to finally hear the man behind it all. He seems like a really cool geezer. Love to go for a beer with him and his unexpectadly sweet smile!
That voice... The best singer of his generation. Besides, a great songwriter and a true artist. His work with the Trees on their last 2 albums was amazing too!
You said this sooo nice ! :-) Lanegan is a good and his voice has so much charakter...at the moment I´m non-stop-listening to his cover-album "I´ll take care of you"--amazing !!!!!!
He's got the deepest speaking voice I've ever heard. It's funny because he's got a pretty lengthy range when he sings high notes, I didn't think he actually had a deep voice.
@williampatrickcorgan look up the clip of the screaming trees on letterman in 1992 and the clips of the screaming trees in 1996 with josh homme & you'll get the idea.
Example of why you don’t become a drug addict. His head was in the toilet for most of his prime years. It wasn’t until he was pretty old when he stopped. Rumors he had relapsed anyway before he died.
I always like to hear an artist's process when it comes to making albums and I love the desert sessions style. Does Lanegan seem bitter about the trees? Was there a conflict I was unaware of? Either way, he's awesome and any music he makes is gold.
"bob denver" an amalgamation of folk/acoustic bob dylan was folk & got allota flack (judas) for going electric john denver -all i know is annie's song, think he's like an epiome of folk-/ acoustic- dom-ness
@tiatuenge hes a great musician and is definitely geniune...i don't feel necessarily that cornell sold out though...i feel he tried something new and completely failed at making something good with it...
Well I hate to hear hum bag on the Trees man . The Conners are good peeps, and helped him make a name for himself. And vice-versa. I really miss the melodies he sang with the Trees.
@lamaddussa Holy shit you're right, the jesus part of christianity is sore point for them. Im not the most religious guy around but based on what I've read and heard about,I cant imagine a situation where jesus would suggest war as an option. Im pretty positive he was not a republican having so many poor and homeless people as friends, one was even a hooker

wow..he looks so relaxed here!..i've never seen him so at ease during an interwiew!..so nice when he smiles and laughs!:)...and man, what a voice!!!..
I guess he was clean :)

Yes sir 👌
This man's voice is otherworldly😍😍
Hard livin'.
One of my favorite ML interviews. It'd be nice to have it in decent video quality.
This is great! It's hard to come across interviews of Lanegan.
Not anymore. He came out of his shell. Quite a few interviews now
...and passed away on Feb 22nd 2022... Rip...

That's just that style of our scene everything is like "whatever"

Thanks for posting this - first time I've seen an interview with this guy. Awesome voice
9:45 He didn't live 20 years after that interview... RIP Mark ❤
Mark was incredibly intelligent and funny. He’ll be more recognized in years to come
Thank you!
You would have to agree with him about 12bar blues. This was great time for him musically, Bubblegum happens to be my favourite Lanegan album.
He's got the deepest speaking voice I've ever heard. It's funny because he's got a pretty lengthy range when he sings high notes, I didn't think he actually had a deep voice.
Awesome interview !! Simply I am charmed with it !!
The quality of this video perfectly reflects the rasping in his voice :)
An amazing musician and a gentleman...
Voice carved from solid granite
mark is"for lack of a better term"a genious
He's not high. That's simply his mannerisms.
I have to go to Ireland to pay my respect
he is the god in the radio
awesome interview
A very cool guy.
However, what I'm more impressed with is the wonderful pink-floral backdrop.
I found his voice very relaxing.
R.I.P.
@LoneConformist
oh, please. the guy is a true poet. look at his lyrics sometime. nobody's perfect, but, he is a true artist.
Oh God - that voice......
Oh my 🖤.
fuck it. this man has so much soul just kicks my arse/ ass!! ::))

gutter twins are awesome
dulli + lanegan = hot
don't think lanegan likes interveiws.. he shows what he feels on stage. and does a good job of it
Sigh, so he didn't make it another 20 years, 18 (2004 to 2/22/2022). Thanks for the music!

sorry, one more thing; it's pretty fucking cool when a singer is being complimented on his voice for just talking
He's bangin out of his head or something! Some gent!

Wow 15 years!
That weird sound in the background makes me feel like I just took a hit of crack
RIP Mark Lanegan...
Which pixel is Mark?
not every heavy smoker ends up with a gravely voice like his. i wouldnt advise taking up the habit,or becoming a nun for that matter.
Smokers and nuns. Both have habits they should break.
The pitch of the famous Leonard Cohen’s voice dropped considerable AFTER he quit smoking.
The quality of this video never used to be this bad!
Wtf happened
Mark accidenti come je stai.....ma perchè non molli dulli e ci regali un altro capolavoro come bubblegum? forza!
another grunge god who was a drummer before he was a singer...never knew that
His eyes keep rolling hahaha
@tiatuenge Have you here the new stuff with PJ Harvey? That compared to chris cornell now.
totally agree...
He ALMOST has a deeper voice than Phil Anselmo, "my music" you mean our music.
All he has to do is say "So lame" and a good song becomes a great song.
@MrJohnK68 the "can't stop my leg" guy?
End of february... Only three years off.
man thats great, but i think he means john denver, wasnt the other guy gilligan?i make waaayyy too many comments on lanegan
"bob denver" an amalgamation of folk/acoustic
bob dylan was folk & got allota flack (judas) for going electric
john denver -all i know is annie's song, think he's like an epiome of folk-/ acoustic- dom-ness
that made me laugh nicely
Did he mean to say John Denver or Bob Dylan?.... Bob Denver is the actor who played Gilligan from Gilligan's Island
I think he was referring to both of them, sort of a joke, compound Dylan's first name & John's last name.
@tiatuenge hes a great musician and is definitely geniune...i don't feel necessarily that cornell sold out though...i feel he tried something new and completely failed at making something good with it...
@nickthelick That story made my day. I'm meeting the man next month, too bad he doesnt smoke anymore as it would've been cool to puff one with him
