I live in New York in a reasonably wealthy area - Upper West of Manhattan. On the night of the 2020 election, most shops and cultural establishments like the Lincoln Centre were boarded up in case of violence. But the fear was not that if Trump lost his supporters would have been violent. This is NY - it is the most Democratic supporting city in the country. No, the fear was that if Trump won there would be major violence from people on the political left. After all, there had been 140 days of left wing violence across US cities in the run up to the election. This was not evident from the reporting of any of the UK media - left or right.
For once RUclips suggested a worthwhile video that I missed. Simon Evans is really interesting. entertaining and thoughtful. Personally I found this very stimulating and kept my attention , my average attention span is around 10 mins. Not forgetting Andrew who had the foresight to suggest talking with Simon.
I'm a lefty and really like Simon he is a witty clever comic ,liked his radio 4 series ,he should be seen and heard more, of the right he may be ,he's funny.
The 6 and half-minute set that Simon Evans did in Sunderland for TV's Comedy Roadshow simply cannot be bettered. From coming on cold it is arguably the finest 6 and a half minutes of standup ever. Every sentence a well-crafted gem; impeccable timing; impeccable little gaps just to emphasise the next couple of words... An absolute masterclass from a tiptop comic. It's on RUclips (duration 6:39). We really don't see enough of Simon on TV as a standup, so I really value the few RUclips clips that we do have of him.
Good one! I have seen him on stage (only on the Internet) a few times, and I enjoyed this conversation a lot. Doyle's a good interviewer (and a good guest when the tables are turned).
GB News is uniquely intelligent among news-centred channels. Debates like this assume the audience is intelligent too and happen nowhere else on UK tv. Very sharp, articulate stuff.
Simon is a breath of fresh, honest air in theae sad days of "I'm offended" culture. He's great. The last few minutes' comment about wounds and how they heal was spot on.
I always liked Sam on Headliners, especially when he said things I heard seldom elsewhere, like great googly moogly..... good old Zappa! But this is brilliant, some very wise words spoken here about comedy and offense. Great interview.
Simon is possibly one of the wisest but most modest about it person I have heard for a long time and his recent life experience mirrors almost exactly my own, even to having my wife tell me to keep quiet because I am upsetting the children- by stating or sharing objective, factual truths.
Simon Evans is a cracking stand up comedian: he has me laughing all the way through his act. I had never considered him to be "right wing". Then again, anyone who isn't a woke, liberal, lefty is branded "right wing".
Some people 'choose' not to understand jokes and comments in an effort to be faux offended and virtue signal, all venues should back their acts and not cave to these people!
Great interview....I saw Simon as the warm up act to Lee Mack's show, he was brilliant....... in some respects his comedy was more thought provoking and funny.........Lee Mack was very good though.......great value for money!!!
I know people who don’t understand metaphor, I doubt they understand irony. My guess is that certain linguistic tools require a certain IQ to understand.
Until recently only ever seen Simon on Headliners. His intelligence shone through, he is my favourite on that show. Then recently I somehow clicked on one of his standup routines. I was shocked by the language. Didn't think he was that funny, so didn't watch for long. Still be my fav on Headliners.
LOL I love how Simon almost apologises for being a "truther" and believing that the Jan 6th "insurrection" was a set up when there is (and was on the day) video of the "insurrectionists" being invited in FFS
Anyone who feels unsafe because of a joke they didn't even hear themselves needs a dose of calcium or a year on the dole in Huddersfield, either one will help you grow a spine
A lot of doctors would endorce confronting your fears and phobias be they rational or otherwise I personally have found this good practice. These woke safe space people have their hands over their ears while wearing cotton wool suits.
Imagine being that closed minded and stupid that you go to a live comedy show, looking to be offended to the extent that you walk out before hearing the end of a piece of material. Some people really are tragic.
I did the cover sketch for John Mortimer's book 'Where's there's a will' I did it at Barnet College in the second year. Never got paid I've been plagarised relentlessly. But that's a long story.
Yes! I am a very male-brained lady and I am very feminine too! My brain is like a man's in that it is very dep thinking and I am personally very keen on finding the truth. As a five year old I played with dolls and lorries as I liked them all although I didn't ask for a lorry for Christmas but I was happy to play with my brother's lorries and at birthday parties.
I'm glad that after saying he used Tucker Carlson as his point of reference, that he only used him in the absence of any other 'credible' reference.🙄 I do love his beautifully crafted and intelligent humour, albeit from a sceptical/pessimistic but mostly left leaning standpoint, which probably has a lot more overlap than a lot would like to admit.
Great chat lads. Sorry to hear of your problems helping your daughter to know fact from fiction Simon. I started out with a hands-off approach to the development of my children's beliefs and political viewpoints. But as I realised how hard they were being hit from the left in schools, how much they were being indoctrinated in class, I increasingly saw my roll as to be the person who had to inoculate them against this tsunami of lies and half-truths. Sad; I wanted to teach them how to think, not what to think. But as I watched their friends accidentally step onto the gender affirmation conveyor belt which instantly whipped them off towards irreversible mutilation, and as more and more students were getting re-racialised, thinking they are either guilty or oppressed because of the level of melanin in their skin, I knew I had no choice but to immunise them both. If you love your children, teach them what to think as well as how to think. They are wading through lies.
So much good sense, until 45:00. *sigh* Stopping now I'll come back and revisit, I will watch the end, (this Lefty loves Simon and actually never thought of him as Right Wing) but jesus that's disappointing. Wonder how he feels about this interview months later?
When Simon Evans said he was going to be a comedian everybody laughed. Well, they're not laughing now are they? Did he come up with brexit? That's a joke. He's as funny as a tory. Competiton from other tory comics though. I saw a fab Double act. 2022 summer season: Truss & Kwateng - clowns & magicians who made all this money disappear. The seats were too expensive. They were following a long run by this big fat tousled haired buffoon who wouldn't leave the stage. Loads of people walked out. He's still on tour but now he keeps getting bad reviews... I've got a million of 'em- I'm here all week

"Geezers," brilliant, certainly made me smile 😃 thank you.
I thoroughly enjoyed that! 😁 I've always liked Simon Evans and it was nice to discover how intelligent and wise he is.
Excellent interview which is both entertaining and engaging. Ten out of ten.
Simon Evans is so clever.

We don’t have any right wing media!
It's sad because honesty is hidden on so many platforms.
BBC has degenerated into a Liberal septic tank.
Our media in the UK reported this as a fear of MAGA.
It's almost as though what you are saying isn't true, isn't it?

Confirmed. Simon Evans does have EYES!!
A round of applause for having eyes . . .

Great conversation - very entertaining and interesting! I enjoyed the final "healing of wounds" analogy, too.

I've been insulted / offended a few times , can't believe I've got a pulse and still breathing !
It was Sandra Bernhard. That said, great interview this. Interesting to hear about Mr Evans beginnings too.
As a gender-confused chauvinist; I find this whole dispute fundamentally racialist!
