I worked on The Island for two summers during my college years and it was some of the greatest memories I've had in my life. I get goose bumps everytime I see it again.
I live in Michigan and Mackinaw Island is one of our favorite places! We go up there most summers and stay next to St Anne's Church at the Harbor View Inn. We sit on the balcony of the Mansion and relax. Paradise!
Agree with you. I live vicariously through them age, fibromyalgia & other health issues inhibit me from doing what I would like. I have a friend who has COPD so I know how disabiliting it can be. The main reason I cant go to all the wonderful places is I live in Victoria Australia lol 🐨🇦🇺
I love that place. I been there twice. First time was in 1974 in November. We had to ride freight boat. Then in 1984 we rode a speed boat to island. Both times were awesome.
Wow! What a beautiful town and so cool that no cars are allowed. Loved seeing the horses. The food looks amazing and now I'm craving fudge. Stay safe and God bless.
I have a cousin that lives in the UP. I was there back in 2009 or 2010 I can’t remember but it was so beautiful driving over the Mackinac Bridge. Went to an awesome casino while there! The Great Lakes are my paradise!!
This is the 2nd time I've watched this video. I was there during a solo UP camping trip abut a month after you for my 5th time in my life. When I arrived a cruise ship had just disembarked their voyagers so the downtown was rammed with people, even more than usual. I grabbed a bike and spend 1.5 hours biking and then ate lunch at the same Jamaican restaurant. I spent the entire afternoon hiking. There are two forts on the island. The one you were at is developed into an historical attraction but it is not the highest point on the island, as you mentioned. The other one is. After hiking I did the free Carriage Barn tour. I also explored the very interesting island cemetery and soldier cemetery. Didn't step foot in any of the shops this time or buy fudge but still had my best day; Mackinac Island is my happy place. Spending a summer living and working there as a seasonal worker is on my bucket list.
Mackinac Island is a bucket list place for me. The hotel is the sight of one of my favorite Movies, "Somewhere In Time". My mom has actually stayed there already. I love the charm of the whole Island. Thanks for the tour! God Bless and Keep you both always.
2:38 Kelly, Love your BOSTON T-Shirt!! 🙂 Looks like their 2nd album, Don't Look Back! ... (Song #6, Party!!)👍 13:16 Confirmed ... World Tour 78 😎👌 I'm going to guess ... by the time you were born, that T-Shirt was already 20 years old!! Classic! 😀
Last time I was there was with the Boy Scouts when I was a preteen. How about 35 years ago I’m glad it hasn’t changed since. Might have to make another trip up there.
Glad you guys bought a thermacell. Excellent for mosquitoes. Sorry Kelly got bit again. Feel bad for her. Mackinac was so cool. We loved going there. Enjoy UP!!!! David and Juanita
Thanks so much for doing such a great job highlighting the beauty of Mackinac island - and also taking time to understand the history of that place. Our family has loved visiting that island so many times over the years as a Michigan resident.
I visited the island back in the mid 70's. I remember going to the cemetery and seeing headstones dating back to the 1600's. I remember a museum exhibit where digestion was studied by a doctor who dropped beef tied to a string through a hole created by musket ball. I remember being invited to ride on a horse drawn garbage scow and getting a great narrative about the island. I remember beautiful vistas. It was after Labor day and not crowded. I remember l laying in my tent the after a day earlier of beautiful weather, watching the rain turn to snow. I remember taking the train & car ferry from Michigan to Wisconsin to head back to home in Illinois. I am in my 70's now and I remember
for a treat, try a michigan cherry/pecan salad..........Yummmmm The Island is like stepping back in time. Especially with no motor vehicles of any kind. Love the fact THE GRAND was in a major movie, "somewhere in time".......
Very nice tour. I'm born and raised in Michigan, just north of Detroit, but my grandparents and many other relatives lived up in the northern part of the Mitten. We would spend summers up there when I was growing up and we made it to the island dozens of times. Every time was such a relaxing, enjoyable day. The one thing I would still like to do is spend one night at the Grand Hotel. Not cheap, but I'm sure it would be a real experience.
I’ve visited Mackinac Island several times. My favorite was during the Lilac Festival and parade. The island is always beautiful but when the lilacs bloom, it smells heavenly!
Lived in Michigan 35 years and we went to The Island 16 times...including two overnights. It is one of my favorite spots in the US....except the Oregon coast. Good job in showing this gem off.
HA HA HA Cody my wife just elbowed me for laughing so hard. Just your face expression when you was having dinner. Way to wake up my angel princess thanks lol .
LOVED your video- was there in 1997 and returning with that same friend- we are so excited! Thank you for showing lots of great things and that view - we did the 8 miles back to back twice ! Looking forward to that again and going to try Kingston Kitchen too... thanks again what a great couple you are!!
Old movie, "Somewhere in Time" is how I found out about Mackinac Island many years ago. Starred Jane Seymore(sp?) and Christopher Reeves. Possibly mid to late 1980's. Seeing this place is one of my bucket list items.
Loved your tour a side I didn’t see before. I was stationed in the Coast Guard in Sheboygan not far from Mackinac Island. My parents and my younger brother came to visit me up in Sheboygan so we took a tour of Mackinac Island. We got to go in the motel a must see if you ever get a chance to go again. That was back in 1979. I’ve been all around Michigan because of the Coast Guard and mostly because of being a truck driver. Obviously I just discovered your page. Safe travels.
Ok you guys, I just now watched the entire video and had my questions answered. Looks like you did the island in style. Many years back, I rode horse and buggy along the road you biked. Glad you got to visit the fort and eat the fudge. I've toured the Grand Hotel, but never stayed there. Yes, very expensive. Cody, I like the way you look into the history of the places you visit and pass it on to us. Kellie, glad your swelling went down with the ice pack. Carry on guys, you're doing a great job of seeing the sights in Michigan!
to help with the flies, do a 50/50 ratio of original Pinesol and Water in a spray bottle. Spray on your tent, chairs, trailer, wipe down counters, the flies will NOT bother you one bit :)
We loved MACKINAC ISLAND! We took our bikes on the ferry and rode the island perimeter also, except we rode counterclockwise. I loved all the flowers and scenery! ❤️ Thanks for the share!!
Hi guys, I was wondering when you come up on a sign of some kind can you move slowly over the whole sign so that if You pause a few mins. then we can take a photo of the sign & read it later, it would be most helpful. I have a few friends that home school their kids so when you guys come upon some neat History & there is a sign that gives more details they can use your Vlog's as a lesson, its really a neat change of pace for the kids & they can read up on the History of the places that you guys go to. & I must admit I enjoy reading the info later on as well. Thank You!!!
Oh wow😍Thanks so much!! This place is so unique and beautiful. I hope someday to see it in person, but until then I'm so glad you were able to explore it and share it with us💚🌲
Thanks for the island tour! Did you know "Somewhere in Time" was filmed at the Grand Hotel? It starred Christopher Reeves, Jane Seymour and Christopher Plummer. It is the best time travel movie!
We did this island last week-but since being seniors we did the carriage tour and was great!!! Sheplers was great-easy parking for the ferry and their shuttles pick you up and take you right to the ferry. I would recommend purchasing tickets for Sheplers online-saves time. And we loved Scalawags Whitefish & Chips at Mackinaw City.
Went last August. Can’t believe you didn’t see the crown Jewel of the island, The Grand Hotel! It’s so beautiful and majestic! The views from the porch are so lovely! Go next time!
Wow. I saw your Pictured Rock blog first and it’s one of my favorites in the UP. Now you are on Mackinac Island and I am like I eat there, Kingston Kitchen every time I am on the island. Enjoy 😊
I hoped you'd go to Mackinac Island! It's so cool. The arch is a most splendid spot! I'm very sorry about your allergic reaction to bug bites. We just came back from there last week. Going again in October. We ate at the Kingston Kitchen twice. So good! Mackinac Island is definitely one of our Happy Places! Love it so much!!!!
We spent a night at the Grand Hotel. It was wonderful. We had a room with a balcony right below the Cupola Bar. It was a full moon that night, with just a few clouds. Really nice view.
Thanks for taking us on the journey!! I've been there before, but your trip has shown me so much that we missed, except for the fudge part. You don't leave without ' the fudge'. You did a fantastic job filming. I need to go back there some day. We live in Kalamazoo right now. Again, thanks for taking us along on your travels!!
I live about an hour away from Mackinac Island and go often. It is such a cool place and I love biking around it. If you have your own bike it is a lot cheaper to bring it with you on the ferry than to rent a bike for the day.
@@hockeymom49721It never used to be that crowded. When my family started going there in the mid 90’s it was a pretty quiet hidden gem. Social media definitely gave it some attention, maybe a lot…
Enjoyed the video, one of many on RUclips of the Island, but you were just there a few weeks ago. I live about 3 1/2 hours from there in the U.P.; My wife and I were there for 3 nights last summer. Seriously, and if you can swing it, there is nothing like staying overnight on the Island. We've been to the Island many times since the early 90's, its definately my favorite vacation spot in Michigan. Well done on the video! (Steve Orchard, Kingsford, Michigan)
We've been to the island once at the end of the season and it was on the colder side so we just went to the shops and stayed off island. On our next trip in a few weeks we are staying on the island and renting bikes so we can explore the island for 2 nights. Looking forward to our trip.
Always wanted to go there, think its to late, wife can't walk to far and neither can I. Beautiful place though and enjoying watching others walk for me. Thank you.
We just got back from a week on Mackinac Island, we took some great pictures - but your video really encapsulated our time there well. Being from San Diego I was most impressed with the simple beauty, super clean facilities, no trash and midwest nice people. Great time and we will go back! Best breakfast was hands down The Chuckwagon, the Pink Pony was fun for afternoon food and drinks, but the best was lounging with a cocktail and cheese/crackers on the green at Mission Point resort (where we stayed).
I loved Mackinac Island when I went there. Especially the horses, stable, and carriage museum. A few people actually live there year-round, even when the ferries stop taking the general public there. We went there on July 5th one year, and the island was packed with people. If you know how to ride horseback, you can rent horses for your own tour of the island. I want to do that.
Amazing camp spot. I think it's my favorite so far. So great to travel with you two. The highlights, the history and the recommendations for food Great!! Thank you both for the amazing videos and content.!!!
Loved watching this vlog!...we sooo enjoyed our day on the island and it brought back all those vibes! Really great job of condensing the history there. One of the things we have loved about the nomadic life is learning history in the place it was made.😎
My wife and I stayed on the island from June 19th to 22nd in 2022.. We might have passed ya by if you were there during that time :) AND yes the Fudge was delicious !
Hi kids you need to go to Michigan black lake ( largest lake in Michigan ) state forest camp ground and go to the falls east of us 211 at four corners . There will be signs for it . You need to see pigeon river state forest 1000’s of elk . Then there is the UPper peninsula north shore has the cleanest clear water ( so clear you can see bottom at 150’ ) and see the Michigan Mountain’s ( Iron Mountain) see the Sulack Sault Sainte Marie Michigan . Have Fun & we will be watching ...
I Loved this vlog!! Kellie, try applying baking soda and water on your next bite. It acts like a little poultice. Yes, Ice works wonders. It looked like it was helping. I was stung by a mad bald faced hornet under my eye once. Youch! I'll never forget that. It was so fun to meander around the island with you both and to see the sights. And the Grand Hotel!! I recognized it immediately because I loved the movie, " Somewhere in time", which was filmed on that location.
I'm a lucky Girl, I live just five hours south from the island and it's a beautiful place to adventure to. Your doing a great job showing my state off to the you tube world!
My wife and I live near there and have been to the island many many times throughout our lives. The Christopher Reeves movie, Somewhere in Time was filmed there. 😊
What a cool place to visit and with no cars! Guess all who live there are in really great condition riding bikes and walking everywhere. Thanks for the history lesson Cody.
That Grand Hotel was the setting for the movie Somewhere In Time with Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymore, it came out in 1980. Always wondered where that hotel was. Safe journeys.
I live in Traverse City and go to the Island most every summer to visit for a day... Just a quick mention......the movie "Somewhere in Time" with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour was filmed there at the Grand Hotel. You did a great job with some of the history. Safe travels to you both!
I'm at a vacation VRBO with my grown kids in Little Rock and just got notified my Dome Life shirt arrived in El Dorado. I was so wanting to impress them with my Dome gear, but it will have to wait til next time!
Spend the night next time. It’s a whole new vibe and not crowded later in the evening. Lot of fun and no one is driving so people can drink as much as they want. There is usually live entertainment in some bars too
Interesting note for you; all the Girl Scouts you saw were part of the Governors Honor Guard. They raise and lower the flags and stand guard at the fort and governors mansion on the island. The duty trades off weekly between Girl Scouts and Scouts BSA. It's an amazing group of volunteer young people, who apply and compete for ~60 spots, they then train for several weekends and fundraise for the opportunity to be part of it.
HI. I am a new sub. I have been working my way backwards through your videos but jumped to this one. I have a daughter and her family that live a few miles South of Mackinac City. They have about 12 acres in the country and work in Petosky. I was up there two years ago and will probably go up next year. I absolutely love the country side up there. I am really enjoying the videos.
I’m really enjoying this series of videos you are doing of my home state! It’s a beautiful state. I live a few miles from Lake Huron in the thumb of the mitten! Lol. That’s how we describe where in Michigan we live! I hope you are going to Pictured Rocks!
I worked on The Island for two summers during my college years and it was some of the greatest memories I've had in my life. I get goose bumps everytime I see it again.
His eyes when he tasted the food😄. That was a FULL review right there. I can't wait to visit. Thanks for a great and thorough video.

I'm unable to go places like this due to COPD so I appreciate you taking me around and doing my walking for me. I really enjoyed that.

The island allows scooters for those qualified folks, ferries well take them for you.
You can bring scooters on the island and around it too! They also have carriage ride around the island with is amazing
They also have scooters but best off bring your own
you can get many places on a carrage ride to limit walking

And when you make it to St Ignace you gotta go to Clydes Drive In , best burgers and fries on the planet
Could you see yourselves living in a place like that? Has it all!
Highlu recommend torch lake and crystal river canoe on your way back, and dont miss pierce stocking drive stop 9, extra points for at night

Beautiful adventure......
This is on our bucket list also....
And yes.....you youngsters have to watch the movie noted below......
Fort Holmes is actually the highest point on the island, as the Americans found out during the War of 1812.
Tahquamenon Falls. You can't miss this when you get to the U.P.!
I better there right now
I'm at a vacation VRBO with my grown kids in Little Rock and just got notified my Dome Life shirt arrived in El Dorado. I was so wanting to impress them with my Dome gear, but it will have to wait til next time!
Spend the night next time. It’s a whole new vibe and not crowded later in the evening. Lot of fun and no one is driving so people can drink as much as they want. There is usually live entertainment in some bars too
Cool to see you on Mackinac Island, been there several times, Somewhere in Time was filmed there.
Love me some Mackinac Island! Yup, you can't leave til you... GET FUDGED!! (Murdick's is the fudge spot, just sayin) Haha, cheers!!
Been to Mackinaw island in mid 80's love to go back. Thanks for the video still looks beautiful. ♥️✌
Nice video. Great place to visit. We went there a few years ago and did the fort to fort run.
I'm so glad yall went here! My childhood summer vacation spot
I’m really enjoying this series of videos you are doing of my home state! It’s a beautiful state. I live a few miles from Lake Huron in the thumb of the mitten! Lol. That’s how we describe where in Michigan we live! I hope you are going to Pictured Rocks!
Fascinating place! I bet the absence of motorized vehicles was noticeable. I just love that so much!
Very nice tour, you did a great job.
I loved Michigan and would love to go back. Glad you are getting to see it too. ❤️
