Jimmy Carter was committed and dedicated to making the world a better place, and he practiced what he preached, an example of true greatness and talent used in the service of doing good on behalf of others and not only ones narrow and short term self interest.

The country thought the trickle-down-theory man was a better choice. We all saw how that turned out. Jimmy was the first POTUS vote for me, and I am proud of that.

Oddly I find myself grieving for what feels like the last living connection to the 1970’s.

From a British perspective, I hold Carter in high regard and I think history will treat him kindly.
In 1977, he visited my region - North East England to a warm reception with our Prime Minister Jim Callaghan (yes both JCs) - Carter's ancestry was from the area. A local official said 'Mr Carter, you are a Georgian, today you become a Geordie' (Geordie being the demonym of people from Newcastle upon Tyne)

Too often Presidents are judged only by their time in office. However in the case of President Carter his legacy is shaped by what he did after holding office.

Wdym too often why shouldn’t a president be judged by what they did as president.

Carter is often blamed for the Iran hostage crisis but there is compelling evidence that Reagan done a deal with Tehran to have the hostages released on the very day of his inauguration to look good.
Carter was actually working tirelessly right up to he got on the helicopter to secure their release and he said he was elated by the news.
I will remember Jimmy Carter as a great humanitarian and very capable statesman who secured the Camp David Accords.
    He also instituted FEMA.

The good works he did after leaving the White House really shouldn't be used to cloud what a disaster his term in the White House was. Gas lines. Interest rates at 18%. Rampant inflation (makes our recent little bout of price hikes look like child's play). Stagnant job growth. The embassy in Tehran overrun and his inept response. He was a good, well-meaning man in a job that was just way too big for him.
