What is a NOVITIATE?

Every religious brother or sister has to go through a novitiate prior to taking vows. What is it though?
Many Catholics know that there exist monks, brothers, sisters within the Church, but if a person has a vocation to religious life, how do they become a vowed religious? The novitiate! For us Passionists, our novitiate is a year-long experience of deeper prayer and contemplation, reflecting on and studying the Passionist Charism in a more dedicated way.
