they follow old bible teachings in where women needed veils. Almost every religion in the Mesopotamian region required women to wear some type of veil. You do not have to wear a veil as a woman anymore for Christianity but you may if you want, like these people do.
They are wearing a wimple, which is formed around the sides of their face. You are also seeing the pre-Vatican II habits, where the habits covered a lot more of the nun's body. After Vatican II, and certainly by 1968, which is when I was in Catholic grammar school, habits were simplified and most orders gave up the wimple, though nuns often wear a veil still, but it is much shorter and does not encase the face. A point of pedantry is that "nuns" are usually in so-called "enclosed" orders where most of what they do is pray and do things to sustain their convent or monastery, where sisters are in active orders whose members go out and teach school or provide nursing care or participate in some other profession. It used to be that girls were recruited for the convent as early as sixth grade. Most orders are now sustained by so-called "mature professions" or women who join the convent in their thirties or later. The same can be said of the priesthood.
The Mad Librarian Thanks for the information. So what you're saying is that Jesus commanded the women to wear head covering and veil but later people stopped following what he taught. Does that mean they have abandoned the teaching of Jesus and adopted a modern fashion. Also why are they called sisters, because some of them are in their 60s going on 70 so how can a young person call them sister, even if it just out of respect and love. Wouldn't you call them aunties instead.
Who does not love a good nun movie? I think only comedic nun movies have ever made a huge sale in the tickets and dvds lately.. and it's only because whoopie goldberg was in it.. i bet this flops hard.
Men! Arm yourselves with testicle beanies and posters boycotting this flick of an "ALMOST ALL FEMALE CAST!" Totally cool if a woman does it, but if a man did/said the opposite; all hell would break loose!
Who cares? Tell a good story. If that's all one gender, or a combination... just make it good. Whatever it takes. All-women doesn't make it an inherently good movie.
ArtificiallyFlavord so the hypocrisy or irony should be ignored because you believe that females are under represented. Because let's be honest, you pulled that 80% out of your arse. Name me a recent film other than historical/war which often still shoehorns women in even though they most likely had no significant role in the real story, whereby there where all male cast? I just googled and it was 32 in total ever. And yes practically all of them where war films. Post 2008 there where only a couple and a majority of them where in the 40s-70s.
I think the real point is noone can imagine a male director being patted on the back for saying he wrote a movie because "I want an all male cast". They would be immediately shunted into the "Weinstein" column. Unless it was about gay men. And then it goes into the "Spacey" column.
What a brilliant way to tell a story. Keep up the great work Vice!
What way is that?
nice sarcasm
They worked on it nun stop?
Jesus Christ!
Loved this movie so much
Did anyone get the ending? Did she end up staying? Or did she leave?
I've wondered that too, but I interpreted it as her leaving. It made sense with the subtext at the end.
She left. The alternate ending shows her with a child.
how can i watch this movie?
Looks interesting.
Vice artist attempts to draw directors face.
Draws Michael Jackson's instead.
Why are these Christmas people wearing Hijabs
Edit. Not that hajab is a bad thing.

Nuns are women
Mother Theresa was a horrible person
eifelitorn how do you know? Did you ever talk to her? Do you just conjecture from what you read or heard?
Don't believe everything you read or hear.
I guess that's one community of women the world (and women specifically) is better off without. It's basically a divine harem..
First
Total trash of a movie.
