  • Wood fired hot water kettle will give you 40 gallons of piping hot water in 30 minutes. Mix with cold water for baths or leave smoking hot for laundry or dishes.

Just found your channel. Love it. It's great to teach your kids to work hard. Keeps them out of trouble.
I'll remember this. I would only save the grey water for the garden or run it through a large charcoal bed. Anyway I get the drift and I'm so happy I found this channel. Thank you!

I am 68 years old. I remember seeing several moms that had been pulled into the wringers. Their arms looked like the skin had been ripped off. I guess that eventually these wringers were made safer. Back then very few people sued when something like that happened. They just chalked it up to experience.

I am an octogenarian and grew up in a household that used such a machine. Before that we built a wood fire under a cast iron wash pot and washed our clothes that way.

That's how my mom and I used to do it. We also had a wood and glass washboard for single items.

Good way get ur son strong...we brothers used to pull 10 liter bucket from a well a 5m down...then it became too lightweight.. so changed to 25 liter bucket.. at first it was a struggle.. then it got light as well...but it was enough for a bath... we had same washing machine as well...Great times...

Great tank but you should have your water catchment from roof going directly into it

Questions, did you make this? can you buy something like this? if you made it how would one cost? can you drive the washing machine agitator with either a gas powered lawn mower motor or use a bicycle for people power?

I'd like to see someone design a rocket stove water heater.
A 1000 gallon PE water tank at top of a 40 - 60' tower with a 300 sq' water collection roof, some tubing and we're ready to roll!

Rick Nelson you can get this from lehmans .com . the Amish make these. this is how they water bath can heat water for laundry and baths. That said the water heater is not cheap.

No. I don't have the equipment to weld with stainless. We bought this from a Mennonite family in Scottsville, KY. The cost was about $750 - but SO worth it.

And I would recommend the 55 gallon kettle. The Lehman's kettle is 35 gallons. If you have kids to bathe and laundry for a family it makes a BIG difference.

FreeSong Farm I have wanted one for water bath canning. plus doing chickens. laundry. scalding pigs. I just cant come up with the money. our outdoor boiler heats our water and house. With 10 kids there's no way a regular water heater is going to work for us.

great vid and idea. I have only one thing that bothers me. the water all around the washer while it's plugged up is a safety issue. I would have the washer setting atop something. more insulated. that cord and y'all standing in the water is not a good idea. just interested in you and your kids safety.

Good set up, I woujld think you could scald chickens and ducks and even turkeys for plucking with that much water. Very practical. Thank you. Don't wear flip flops on videos, as it's unseemly.

Well, most of the Plain People where sandals or flops or go barefoot in summer. We don't have AC. Socks and shoes hold in too much heat. Normally, I would just go barefoot, but I have an ongoing issue with the connective tissues in my foot from a medication I took more than several years ago... and sometimes I need to wear something soft on my foot!
