Huge props for deciding against foggy shadow cheat weather
thats such a good way of putting it
haha, its kinda considered the same in illustration too. soft shadows are "easy" compared to dynamic lighting
Or the puddle everywhere hax
Yeah!
its easy tho xD
Holy shit the camera pan at 0:14 is spot-on perfect to an 80s movie. This blew my mind. Well done!
It's the simple yet lovable jock boyfriend on his way to pick up his cheerleader girlfriend who doesn't appreciate him. Neither of them know it yet, but he's going to fall for the nerdy girl in the library. He's going to meet her while serving detention. He never actually did anything wrong to get detention though, as he was just taking the fall for a friend.
No country for old man

Two changes that would make the greatest impact would be:
1) Shifting the center of gravity in the car forward towards the engine. Right now the car moves like a miniature because its center of gravity isn’t realistically displaced.
2) On a road like that a car should be kicking up some dust behind its wheels. There should be a lingering cloud of dust behind the vehicle. This would likely be the most impactful change of the two.
This is really impressive as it is. Good job!
The other thing is the fuzzy ray tracing is standing out and making it look like ray tracing. (Unfortunately I'm not a CGI person and don't know how to fix that.)
Don't know. For me it was only the shiny tarmac that gave it out. Why do all games and CG make roads shiny, when in reality they are matte and covered with dust?
@@volo870yea, it looks like it rained exclusively on the road right before lol
The CGI itself is pretty good but the motion of the vehicle going through the terrain gives the scene a sense of it being equal parts miniature photography & stop motion animation.
strange i don't think it looks like a miniature at all
@@Hackerb0b it does
Looks like stop motion because there isn't motion blur. I feel like if there was motion blur it would be 100% convincing
@@Hackerb0b There's a video on yt which is called: "Making a hollywod car chase with rc cars", watch it and you will get what does he mean by "miniature".
@@elifresco2609 Motion blur adds so much more sense of motion that almost every "static" camera feels unnatural to see; Even on videogames it's a common mistake racing games forget to add. (You can make any car feels like its going 200mph by just setting a good motion blur; Also "unrecorded" from unreal engine shows exactly how this effect is useful even with games that are usually too casual for this effect)
I love that half the comments are finding ways to make it more realistic. I think that's a sign you've done a good job.
Agreed
@@iraklikurashviliiyour work is so exceptional. Period. As a regular person not too into VFX I was shocked that this level of realism in CGI exists. I don’t see CG this realistic looking in most modern movies, even from the best studios with the most money and time… it tells me that the technology of today has allowed for artists like you to SHINE, for your skills to be displayed to the fullest of extents. Do you ever disclose what tools you use to make your videos?
Me too i was like wheres the cgi? Lol@@daviduribe5897

The only thing missing is some harsher, more direct sunlight. Some of the scenes are too even, but out in rural areas like this on a sunny day I would expect brighter sun and shadows.
yep. I was thinking what is wrong with the sunlight, and I realized there is not enough. everything is way too dull and even, we want some hdr
I mean, you’re approaching this criticism as if seeing it with your eyes, not through a camera lense. This look can be achieved in filmed movies through filters and lenses, as well as adjusting light curves in post-production. It all depends what look you’re going for in order to tell the story, I suppose.
If he was going for an on-film look that conveys a sense of heat and dryness, then, yeah, he could’ve upped the exposure. If he was going for captured-on-digital to convey just a leisurely drive through the plains, then I think he achieved it.
Edit: upon rewatching it, I can see some of what you’re talking about. I think the issue might be that it appears to slightly hazy and humid, which isn’t a characteristic of the dessert. That’s what’s kind of throwing it off slightly
just look at this scene
ruclips.net/video/b2dewDwIQyM/видео.html
first it seems like it has the same color grading and stuff, but its doesnt
if you watch closely this full cgi desert is waaay too saturated compared to its highlight compression. and it doesnt feel right. if you wanna keep the rich colors you have to let the bright sunlight to burn out some details, but in here, nothing is bright, but we have a nice, hot summerish color palette.
its a very little detail tho, but if its not perfect, everything goes strange
You're thinking of the shots in films that are always done in stark sunshine. In reality these places also have their fair share of overcast days with less sun.
For me its the motion blur that's missing, there is some but not enough
Honestly 0:00 0:11 0:14 0:35 0:39 and 0:52 all just feel like real life. No tops this is probably one of the most realistic animations I've ever laid my eyes on.
its a desert and a car buddy its not that crazy cgi is getting better though
real life doesnt look this visually pleasing, thats why you subconsciously can tell its fake. There have been plenty of studios that have made entire scenes that look perfectly like real life and we cant even tell.
in a few years ai can replicate something like this
Duuuuude, wild. Great job 👍
Im amazed! Good show!
The years of practice, pain, patience, and learning behind this is worth the video
And when Sora comes... we'll all be able to do this.

It must be so annoying to do realistic renders because something looks off but it's impossible to figure out what it is.
But it's still amazing to see how far technology has come to be able to do this
Like painting, making music, or writing a poem at 3:00. Shits good and proud while doing it, thinking you cook, till you wake up and behold, a gleamy, shiny shitcake 💩 right on that work desk!
This guy most definitely rendered a dozen and a half times.
@@Home_Rich HAHAHA words have never been more true
try higher shutter speed. The low ss stuttering is a giveaway of cgi, but smoothing things out might make it a bit more realistic. Camera movements are already pretty much on point.
Superb work
Edit: sorry I meant LOWER speed. Things would blur a little and make it more smooth
Yeah I agree - it would really tie it together and make it more authentic
I think it's more a problem with limited motion blur, feels too small if nonexistent in some scnees, whilte it looks the best at 0:14
yeah this needs a consistent low shutter speed to display proper expected motion blur, and the realism would go up significantly. Reading up on 180 degree shutter rule has more info on this
Dude, this is amazing. I can't believe how some shots can look this real. The camera movements and composition are what really ties this together
IKR!!!
1st interior shot and 1st tracking shot are delightfully flawless. As inserts in any movie, no one would have been able to tell. The lighting on the front window grime was S tier.
built like a cult classic 80s film. just love it
The Long Drive update be looking fire
I had a pretty long drive @ the country glub yesteryear
No way, I never expected to find a fellow The Long Drive player out in the wild

@@UOAPlays right?? first thing i thought of too when i saw this video
The static shots look the most real because a real camera cannot do all those moves. Some scenes are 100% convincing, very good stuff.
Edit: Holy shit this is just my opinion. Get off my back IT LOOKS AMAZING.
agreed. keeping the perspective realistic would add a lot to the realism.
wonder if a bit of blurring around the edges would help. the foliage looks a bit too sharp and in some fast shots it looks like there's no motion blur.
Otherwise spot on! Great work!
@@alborzdesign and the road needs more sand/dust, a bit too shiny
As a filmmaker I can tell you there isn't a single camera move in here that's not possible. In fact, they are designed exactly how a film crew would accomplish them with commendable accuracy.
@@MichaelDavidWiller yes, there are such cameras but even in movies those are the scenes people would consider cgi is being used even when it isnt. I think its just a natural reflex caused when the camera is moving in a way thats distracting from whats actually being filmed.
Camera is a bit too stable in some shots too

The Salamanca Cousins hided for sure somewhere under the trees ahaha. Breaking Bad vibes, what a work! Great Job!
Gives me El Camino vibes, love it
Nailed the photo-realism, I'd say the only thing that takes me out of it is the FPS seems a little off here and there and small details like no dust kicked up from the tires. Super cool though and awesome work!
personally i like the fps, makes you know its not real while guessing if it was practical effects, and gives a strange quality to it that's undefinable.
Needs some nice 180degree shutter angle motion blur
shots 2, 3, 4, and 6 are perfectly real looking
Looks like something you could see in Breaking Bad 💯💯
DUUUUDE, this is fucking AMAZING! This is seriously impressive, and for your first full animation!
the shots with motion blur really sell it. surprising how much that can do for realism
First I thought it's a movie scene,after I saw the title,then I realised..Awesome work dude ❤.
Ok, where’s he going though? 🤔
Amazing work, perfect.👌
Alaska
the landscape/foliage is really beautiful. nice job!
Really great work. And that song is absolutely goated
Looks great.
The most real animation I’ve ever seen. If the footage quality was poor, like it had been run through VHS or something I’d think it was real
Thats Really interesting man. Good work. It's a little bit "off" but in a really interesting and charming way. Id love to see more.

Wow. This looks amazing! Kudos!
This is too realistic to that point that it's criminal
Im so glad that you used Baby Blue, truely an amazing song
It is definitely giving uncanny valley. Like I can't explain how my brain can immediately tell it's cgi, while it sits there looking real af

good god this is amazing. well done! the camera animation alone is 10/10, loving the suspension animation on the car. amazing environment, car model. dope shit my dude. GGWP
This is almost completely spot on. The only thing that gives it away for me is the camera movement on some shots. I always find one thing that gives away CG videos is the camera movement, But even then those shots still look like GTA bumped up to max realism.
Also in the third shot the car is clearly empty, other than that, big thumbs up

Looks incredible, I believe the smooth camera shaking gives it away
Insanely good, well done man!
Fantastic mr.fox vibes
This is actually crazy
So crazy. This could be a scene mixed with a real tv show episode and I wouldn’t notice it wasn’t real footage.
Thought this was unreal engine, never thought cinema4d is this good
Unreal engine is a game engine so it runs in realtime, cinema4d renders each frame, cinema4d has infinite more time per frame.
Because of that cinema4d will always have the opportunity to look better then unreal engine.
Most movies are 24frames per second, that is 41 milliseconds per frame. Calculations can’t take longer than that or it will stutter.
Cinema4d isn’t real time so it can take as long as it needs per frame.
This explanation is quite simplified, but I hope I explained it enough for it to make sense to you. If not feel free to ask more 😊
It looks like film! Fantastic!
I'd suggest using motion tracking (Like the Vive Tracker or the Oculus Touch) for the camera, so it creates realistic camera jittering.
Those still shots feel like a single photo, breaking the immersion.
Amazing work ❤
This is amazing. My only problem is that there is no dust coming from the wheels.
amazing cinematography
This is CGI? Holy shit, it looks _insanely_ real!
Whaaaaaaat!? Nice work there.
this is sick, looks really vintage!
Nice touch on the period-accurate New Mexico license plate, although it's worth noting that New Mexico only uses a rear plate (no front plate).
Really good CG work, in any case. The sampling grain kind of gives it away (especially on the windshield reflections) but that could be improved by simply letting the render run longer.
Absolutely beautiful
Phenomenal work so impressive
This has such a nice feel to it
Wow, that's absolute real looking...
dude this is crazy good! damn 😭
environment good
Amazing work!
Dude I love how it almost looks like miniatures shot practically! Great job!
Epic!
Very convincing. But I could never keep my car so clean and dust free.
fantastic
To me the only thing holding it back in the uncanny valley is the lack of shiny reflections of the sun in the glass, and on the sheet metal. Alternatively the bodywork could be dusty but no dust here at all. In the desert the sun casts a harsh glow, not here
To me its the smoothness of the car's movement,im pretty sure a road like this would much bumpier
