You give a small amount of information. Your the director, writer or producer of this. This is brilliant but I never heard of this short film. The year? Studio? Where and when did you shoot this? I love westerns, I'm surprised this got past me. Your a great director or writer. I hope you do more. This could have easily been a feature film. A new fan in Belgium.
@@entertained9065 well, let me tell you something, I didn't create this movie nor did I even write it. I just put the clips that buster scruggs was in and put it together and edit and upload it! btw, buster scruggs is a movie from Netflix!

He's a perfect combination of confidence and ability, and the portrayal just leave you wanting more.

This is one of the greatest scenes ever..This really deserves its own movie, and the Coen Bros have created another piece of cinema history
Don’t you mean, they’ve rested another piece of shit?
Not sure what you mean.
"The Ballad of Buster Scruggs" IS a full-length move, about 2 hours long.
I saw it on Netflix (I think) a year or two ago.
What he means, is buster scruggs the character deserves its full movie, cause if you think abt it.. buster scruggs only showed up for 15 minutes out of 2 hours of the film
The entire movie was good but I agree this scene was the best.
@@kernotter”The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” is the name of a 133 minute movie, but the movie consists of six short films. “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” is the first of the six short films, and the original post suggests that there should be a full length Buster Scruggs movie, instead of just a short. The other five stories in the film have different casts and are stand-alone stories, not related to any of the other shorts.
when the coen‘s make a movie
it doesn’t matter if it’s two hours or 10 min long
it has that true cinematic magic going on⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
That's a fact.
The best in the biz.
I could handle two hours of Buster.
I'm inclined to agree with you, pardner.
That shot from inside the guitar looking out is a prime reason I like the Coen brothers! Such brilliant imagination.
... and that muffled sound ;-)
Yes, like the bowling ball hole point of view shot in the Big Lebowski
I like the way the dust he knocks off himself at 2:40 retains his shape for a moment.
Yep (and the EQ applied to the music so it sounds like it's heard from within the guitar). So many subtle things in this. Like the hole in the wall with the sun shining through after he shoots the bar tender, the cartoon like face of the guy 'who shoots himself in the face', and the thunk sound as Buster takes his hat off in his final gun fight. It's my go to movie when I need an injection of dark humour. So many brilliant bits in the whole movie. "Panshot", "Your first time?". 😂
With the hollow echo!
Loved this guy in Oh Brother Where Art Thou.

People say this was a sand ending for buster when they talk about this movie. And I wholeheartedly disagree. What's better than being beaten by someone that finally acknowledges you for your efforts and shows you the respect you deserve. I'd say he went completely at peace with it in the end.

That would have to be " Buster Scruggs the Sequel "
Why?
The song (combined with his dancing) that Buster sings after the creative (and hilarious) way he put an end to Surly Joe, along with the participation of the other bar patrons, is an absolutely brilliant, priceless and unforgetable scene in an absolutely brilliantly written and acted movie short. Some of the Coen's brothers' best work in their truly remarkable careers.
The Great Clancy Brown in the part of Surly Joe has made Film Villainy an artform in his long career long may he reign as one of the top movie Badarses!

Buster Scruggs (1819-1873), nicknamed "the San Saba Songbird", was an American gambler, musician, and outlaw from Reata Pass, San Saba County, Texas. the “San Saba Songbird.” Others, less generous, refer to him as the “West Texas Twit” or the “Runt of Rheardan Pass.” His wanted poster, in what is presumably an inside joke on the Coens’ own reputation, is more succinct: “The Misanthrope.”

The dead guy is Clancy Brown, one of the best character on screen today. If you remember Highlander he was the Kurgan, and the preacher in Cowboys and Aliens.

What an enchanting way to spend 15 minutes off watch while crossing the Pacific Ocean! "Unarmed, your tactics must be downright archimedean" Brilliant!!
In a world of kill or be killed, Buster Scruggs kept his cordiality to the end.
One might say it was a world of kill AND BE killed... 🤔
Got a bit cocky, which was his undoing.

Trivia: Kicking dust at his feet at 13:03 was a sign of respect in cowboy lore.
Cool
Even with Sophocles Antigone, the difference between buried and unburied was a handful of dust. And only those who were buried could enter the afterlife. I didn't know this gesture from cowboys, but I also understood it as a gesture of respect.
Thanks I didn’t know. I thought it was weird he went from being respectful and knowledgeable to disrespectful but you’ve cleared that up and it makes the scene hit that much harder
@@HajimeNoDamien Old reply but I wanted to add a bit more to this. When he kicks the dust on him, it's not only a sign of respect, but it's basically giving Buster a "burial". Notice right after he kicks the dirt his soul leaves his body, because they believed your soul could not leave the body until you were buried. So yeah, he remains respectful the whole time.
Someone else alluded to that. Not knowing what it meant I thought it was the opposite. Thanks
My appreciation of this stellar entertainment is much enhanced by the uncanny resemblance that is observed between Mr. Scrugg's elocution and my own habit of expressing myself in a similar style. I salute the exceptional intellect that crafted this magnificent script, which most assuredly imbues this lilly-clad lead slinger with irresistible charm.

You betcha, yah. Was stationed at Grand Forks, ND back in the day and as dark as the Fargo film was it captured the desolate bleakness of the place and the Scandinavian roots of the locals perfectly. Oofta!
Tim Blake Nelson is such an underrated actor.
I have not read all of the comments but I read many and no one commented on the poker hand Buster refused to play... the dead man's hand. Wild Bill Hickok was holding that hand when he was murdered. Excellent little movie!
Though Buster bested Surly Joe, did the fact that he sat down to the "Dead Man's Hand" nonetheless foretell the end of the San Saba Songbird?
I'm starting to think either he's bat shit crazy, or he just understands humans to such a scary degree that he just can't help but smile.
Yeah. I think that too! :o)
Although this is a great character, "Buster" is also a mouthpiece for the Cohen brothers, as they use his words deny the charge their movies are misanthropic. Of course, the denial is made in deeply misanthropic, although not necessarily incorrect, terms!
Buster Scruggs has won so many duels that he forgot how fear feels like

I was cracking up through the whole thing.
I was sad when Buster died. But then the goofy song with him floating up to heaven had me laughing again.
The way he worded things was really entertaining. I should memorize that stuff, it might even break the ice in a tense situation and get folks laughing. The ones that never saw this would be looking around asking, "What the hell just happened?"

Gosh, I hadn't laughed this hard in years. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂. Wished they'd make a movie of old Buster.
I wound enjoying this movie way more than I thought I would. This guy could have carried a whole movie!
Despite the cartoonish storytelling, Buster's death apears very sad. Yes, he kills people with an irritating smile, without any compassion. But he never breaks the rules, he never starts a quarrel first and most importantly, with his actions he never tries to prove anything. He just rides, sings and extremely successfully defends himself. On the other hand, an ambitious youngster in a black suit opposes him because he wants his fame, And unlike Buster, he is driven by vanity.
Metaphorically, Buster represents a western hero from the golden age of Hollywood. The mysterious rider who comes out of nowhere while playing the harmonica is a typical hero of Sergio Leone. Spaghetti Westerns killed the old school of American Westerns...
Well said
Or you could look at it this way too. Buster was always quick to engage in a fight because he knew he was so much better than the cowboys around him. Kind of like if an MMA fighter went into a club and accidently bumps a guy who then challenge him to a fight. The MMA licks his chops because to him this is a dream come true. Buster could have refused the man challenge and offered him a beer instead. He who lives by the sword.
Copy pasted.
Spaghetti westerns are far superior though 🤠
@@GRIMSREVENGE253 most professional fighters don't go around hoping for a bar fight ( licking their chops ) and risking being seriously injured if not killed by a seething psychopath just itching to prove what a badass he is, getting angry when the altercation doesn't go according to his wishes and then pulling a firearm or going to their vehicle and retrieving one, coming back, and shooting the place up causing multiple life changing injuries and deaths. Most smart people just wave it off and go about their business. If the alcohol fueled pharmaceutically emboldened hump persists then end it fast and hard before the situation develops further.
I don't think the Cohen brothers have made a bad film they are all class, but Fargo is a real classic.🙏❤️🧡💚
I have just about all of their movies on DVD. Not this one, yet. Although I've seen it three or four times. The only one I'm not sure of is The Lady Killers. But I'm a big fan of the original so that probably colours my impression. Plus, I've not actually seen it. Maybe I should get over the fact it's a remake and watch it for what it is.
@@littlefluffybushbaby7256 The problem with The Lady Killers is the lack of balance between the character played by Tom Hanks and the rest of the gang. Hank's character and Hall's character were strong performances with grounded realistic characters while the gang members were cartoonish, ungrounded (because there were no strong/realistic personalities) and their antics were silly. This lack of balance did not create a cohesive feel, it was like The Three Stooges meet James Bond and go on a disjointed escapade. The story was good and the photography of the cat was amazing, I'd like to have stills of some of those shots. The original was much better. Though I am a Cohen Brothers Fan too. Love their work.
