Patti LuPone and Laura Benanti appear on the "Today Show" with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb to chat about their roles in the Broadway production of GYPSY.
Is anyone else reminded of Judy Garland and her appearance on The Jack Parr Show 1962 when watching Patti??? She's (Patti) is so wonderful and amazing!
I think...the best thing anyone can do...if they want to be Patti's friend...is grin and bear it. Just smile. (No pun intended). Smile and nod and just agree with everything she says until you have to disagree to please her. Just a thought. It would be such a dream to work with her.
I have never heard her say one thing I disagreed with, so that shouldn’t be too hard. I saw this show multiple times as a very young man. Every time was a joy. Once I saw Benanti’s understudy, who was very good as well.
A lot of people feel bad for Laura because she didn't have a chance to speak, but when Patti turned to her and actually ASKED her a question (about being born to play a part) Laura just stared blankly and wouldn't talk. So whatever.
she's not, as much as i know. i met her before Gypsy walking to the theatre and got to talk to her. shes so nice and very funny; i picked up on no b*tchiness
Oh, Patti and Laura, you are worth so much more than the 4th hour of the Today Show...
Happy to have seen both these talented women in 'Gypsy' and in other shows and concerts.
And they did get the Tonys....they were brilliant.
Kathie Lee was a Brilliant Interviewer.
She also can Act, Sing & Dance.
Her writing never gets off the ground.
I loved how Kathy literally cut Patti off when she's speaking, and then compared her writing to Sondheim. Brilliant.
