I like all of the classes because I thought there would be a magic school for magic casters: like wizards, warlocks, sorcerers, artificers, or arcane tricksters to learn and study, like in modern times. I think it's a perfect thing for kids or teenagers in Dungeons and Dragons. Don't you agree?
@@ABDIllustrates And I should thank you for introducing me to Dungeons and Dragons since two years ago. I love your artwork and I hope I can meet you one day. Probably after I graduate and after summer break, hopefully.

I think the only real "problem" with Strixhaven is that it was weirdly marketed as both a setting guide and a campaign, where it's really more like WDDH or BGDiA; a campaign with a substantial gazetteer and bestiary. So people went into it expecting a full guide to Arcavios when even MtG players don't have that.

I may have only seen that final character for a few minuets now but I now know would give them all my possessions and also do anything for them absolutely stunning
Yes YES YESSS this take about the Eloquence bards from Strixhaven makes me so happy! I've had a concept for a bit of a Harpy Bard who can't play an instrument due to his bird features so he instead went to college for eloquence and sharpened his word and wit! Glad to see you agree with this take! Definitely going to consider making him a Strixhaven Alumnus.
I fell in love with the ink guy!! Just something about the power to bend and manipulate ink to do random tasks inspires me so much and i wanna draw a character inspired by that!! Love this video btw
I like seeing the reference images, because it gives us a glimpse into elements we'll see as the drawing comes together, and some insight into the inspo. It also feels more authentic, so I don't mind it at all!
23:20 That reminds me that I'm gonna be working on my Wild-Western Cowgirl-Inspired Desert/Sand Witch tomorrow in preparation for Marchician 2022, an art challenge where I design 31 witches based on the prompts I've been given, she wields a revolver that uses magical scrolls as ammo & her name is Sonora (After the Sonora Desert)!
I wasnt so creative in the naming of the characters but this is what i came up with in the order they appear: Sil-Quinn, Drian, Mars, Theol, and Lehro. I love your art and I love dnd so this was so much fun to watch!💜
*me- a person who never played dnd before but created a dnd inspired character years ago who was a bard archaeologists and loves stories based in a academic setting* how interesting 😳🤔 Amazing characters with such great concepts btw!!👍💜
Ayo, DND is sick, but it is also very pleasing to see how you make your inking shapes. I learned quite a bit watching you draw. It looks so good, fantastic stuff, keep going!
I'm running a strixhaven campaign in the new year, and it's gonna be challenging to write School-based adventures. character creation was also hard, since it's a really difficult setting to summarize and not all of my players had read the book.
ohmygosh these are GORGEOUS!!! I am obSESSED with your work and style!! Also so CURIOUS about all the brushes you used!! Especially the one you used for the ink! AMAZING WORK
Aaaa you got sponsored by D&D!!! That's awesome, ABD! Congrats! And these characters look so dynamic and awesome! Especially the more non-human characters; you've really come so far with that considering you have more trouble with non-human anatomy. It's so cool! I've already fallen in love with the Witherbloom College. I've had a bunch of plant imagery in my mind recently, so this is pretty much the perfect place if I ever join a Strixhaven campaign. If there was ever a time to start D&D, now would be the time! Amazing work as always!
I have known this Owlin for less than a minute and I would protect them with my life. You did such a great job with all of these designs! I can practically hear their voices you conveyed personality so well!
The Timing of this video still gets me. I wasn't aware that D&D released a new book, so when I watched this on christmas eve I thought 'oh, thats cool' and then my dad, who didn't know what to get me for christmas, got me the most recent D&D book, which happens to be Strixhaven. Still not sure how I'm supposed to use it for D&D, but its interesting to say the least :D
My parents bought me cool lavender mini D20 on hoop earrings for Christmas from what I think was the original merch site itself! If there is one. It looked a lot like it was from DnD beyond- Anyways I’m so happy for you! That’s amazing!
My friends and i are also starting a strixhaven campaign and when i saw this recommended to me I LOST IT I LOVE YOUR CONCEPTS AND CHARACTERS THEY ARE ALL SO SO FITTING
I feel like LARO in a fantasy setting is like the Airsoft of gun enthusiasts. Yes you could cast meteor swarm, but that’s no fun. So why not use Prestidigitation and Thaumaturgy like an airsoft version of fireball or eldritch blast
I just ADORE your dnd content, it always brings a smile to my face and I can't wait for more wonderful character designs!! You're such a big inspiration to me and I find these videos super helpful, so thanks ABD :D
these characters are completely amazing. the fact that you came up with amazing characters just from the new classes is superb. D&D was right to sponsor you. keep up the great work.
I loved the Warforged character, as well as the Owlin (hope I spelled that right)! When you mentioned Wall-E during the Warforged drawing process, nostalgia hit me like a freaking truck! It's probably my favorite movie, so the connection just made me love your character even more!
for some reason, the warforged character in quandrix gives off fantasy-esque aperture science vibes, so bizarrely enough i imagined the character being voiced by stephen merchant or ellen mclain.
Percy from CR is actually a Gunslinger Fighter, it's a homebrew subclass for fighter that Taliesin and Matt Mercer developed together. However, Taryon Darrington (also from the first campaign of CR) is an Artificer, though admittedly that was back when it was just Unearthed Arcana so the rules were slightly less refined.
Dude your slam poetry bard idea is exactly what my current character is and it’s literally so fun. Like my character just writes poetry about made-up gods for stupidly specific things (such as pasta and chickens) and I fully support seeing more poet bard stuff. Such a blast to play! Especially since I get to write a lot of the poetry myself and then just start reciting it at random moments in the campaign, haha.
Oh my gosh. I AM SO EXCITED FOR STRIXHAVEN!!! This video has now inspired me to go read everything I can find about it. Also, of course, these characters are as amazing as ever.
I love all of these!!! I actually Pre-ordered Strixhaven and was really looking for character inspiration. Also the hair for the Prismari character is AWESOME.
Alex's artwork is incredible 💖💖 Really inspires me to get creative and create characters & stories of my own. Loved watching this speedpaint and in particular his character creation process. 💖💖
One of my players is playing an eloquence bard in our waterdeep campaign and he's been a blast to DM for! We replaced his 'bardic instrument' with a horn that he can speak through to flavor his spells more. He's an orator and scholar so it's fun to see a non-musical bard get more support from source material!
dude! I've been watching your speedpaints since like 2018, and you are such a huge artistic inspiration to me! the way you use light and color, the dynamic poses, the line work--it's all just so amazing! you have no idea the swell of pride I just got clicking on this video and seeing that my favorite D&D artist is now being COMMISSIONED BY D&D ITSELF!!!! :D so proud of you!!!!
Amazing!!!! I love your art style and character designs so much and being sponsored by DnD is so good! Percy is a gunslinger fighter btw, a homebrew subclass by Matt based on Pathfinder's Gunslinger class since that's where the first campaign actually started. Taryon Darrington is an artificer though!
I was looking for a background video to watch while drawing my D&D character. So now I'm watching D&D while drawing D&D... Definitely didn't word that well.
Here are my headcanon names for these new character, in order of being drawn: Silverquill Student: Poe, He/They pronouns (sorta like Edgar Allen Poe? Or like Poet maybe?) Quandrix Student: Weave, They/Them pronouns (Alex mentioned the character being similar to Wally, so I thought a mixed name between Wally and Eve would suit them) Prismari Student: Flare, She/Her pronouns (I just thought it sounded cool) Witherbloom Student: Taiga, She/They pronouns (Taiga is a type of forest biome, specifically a snowy forest, and I thought it would be fitting considering snow and winter are often connected with the cold and death. But a forest, even a snowy one, is still teeming with life. I think it fits the Witherbloom duality well) Lorehold Student: Harvey, He/Him pronouns (A cute, nerdy name that I really think fits with his vibe)
I cant stop replying "OMG YOUR DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS" Idk why but thats my favorite part but amazing work and congrats for getting sponsored by THE D&D!
My suggestions for names for these absolutely lovely character designs have to be (in order from left to right): Tempest Blightfyre, Coil Elhammer, Achlius Brangwen, Amaryllis Fairedoe, and Otus Stoneherald :) It’s so cool to hear your thought process on designing these characters and your specific inspirations for them!! I adore the process of designing characters especially in a D&D setting so this was a huge motivator into creating more characters that I won’t even use anytime soon... (I already happen to have seven characters within nearly a year of playing, and only two of them I’ve actually played with! I have a problem.)
i LOVED the owl! i have an owl character as well (though they're an aarakocra) and it makes me happy to see another one 😄 i think it would be fun (and cute) to give yours a name that sounds like a bird noise like Qhik or Ourrk ☺️☺️
I remember when I got my hands on strixhaven booster packs and just imidietly fell in love with the characters just from their portrairs on the packaging. Finding out from this video that I'm actually going to be able to make my own character and explore strixhaven is just lursitDUeylylerupapue I can't even described it, so hypes for this
as always, i adore to see each piece of content you create - its all so truly inspiring to improve on my own work more and more (even though im burnt out, it helps though) i hope you have a wonderful rest of your month ! again thank you for each new wonderful post of yours! these characters are so well thought out, id love to see a campaign done with this new book
Fun fact, Strix is actually part of the scientific name for a family of owls. For example, Strix Nebulosa is the scientific name of the great gray owl. I just thought it was funny that you drew an owl in the world of Strixhaven!
I love them all and was so excited to see each college student!!!! As for names, L to R: Jessie or Jess for short (maybe Jest as a nickname too!), Xylph, Flare, Mollywart (Molly for short), and Pippin!
So, actually a BUNCH of recent DnD books were crossovers with Magic, and I personally adore them (and think you might enjoy them too, since you mentioned that you researched from the card game!), and that Magic just had a set called Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, which was a magic set that took place on a bunch of the typical DnD planes! :) Love the video! It was really cool to hear you talk through your process and see all these really unique characters!

Never played dnd and never understood it but watching you draw and talk about it so passionately just makes my brain produce serotonin
Wow! Gorgeous designs! Strixhaven sounds super fun, and the new colleges are super interesting!
D&D??? GET THAT COIN
All of these designs are stunning- I can't even describe how much inspiration and excitement they fill me with!
Oh my gosh, is so CUTE how Alex is just freaking out about the DnD contacting him
23:20 That reminds me that I'm gonna be working on my Wild-Western Cowgirl-Inspired Desert/Sand Witch tomorrow in preparation for Marchician 2022, an art challenge where I design 31 witches based on the prompts I've been given, she wields a revolver that uses magical scrolls as ammo & her name is Sonora (After the Sonora Desert)!
I love your intro. IDK why but when you say "Hello, Hope you are doing we'll" it just makes me so happy
All these characters have such a VIBE to them!
I wasnt so creative in the naming of the characters but this is what i came up with in the order they appear: Sil-Quinn, Drian, Mars, Theol, and Lehro. I love your art and I love dnd so this was so much fun to watch!💜
*me- a person who never played dnd before but created a dnd inspired character years ago who was a bard archaeologists and loves stories based in a academic setting* how interesting 😳🤔
Amazing characters with such great concepts btw!!👍💜
These designs are so good!!! I love seeing your speedpaints and hearing about your process for them, and congrats on being sponsored by D&D!!! 💖
AMAZING WORK
Still can’t get over your avatar it’s so cute!
It looked a lot like it was from DnD beyond-
Anyways I’m so happy for you! That’s amazing!
My friends and i are also starting a strixhaven campaign and when i saw this recommended to me I LOST IT I LOVE YOUR CONCEPTS AND CHARACTERS THEY ARE ALL SO SO FITTING
You’re my biggest idol in art! I adore your style, and I hope to one day be as talented as you! Thank you for making my day!
I cannot stress enough how much I love the robot with glasses - but without eyes.
Good job getting sponsored by DND!!
Alex's artwork is incredible 💖💖 Really inspires me to get creative and create characters & stories of my own. Loved watching this speedpaint and in particular his character creation process. 💖💖
MY BOY! Sponsored by D&D, I'm so happy for you!
Also, I may play Prismari Colours, but I'm a Witherbloom Boy!
you are becoming my favourite artist on youtube :D i absolutely love your style and tips on character design
Congratulations on the sponsorship 👏🏻👏🏻
Amazing!!!! I love your art style and character designs so much and being sponsored by DnD is so good!
Percy is a gunslinger fighter btw, a homebrew subclass by Matt based on Pathfinder's Gunslinger class since that's where the first campaign actually started. Taryon Darrington is an artificer though!
You are the person who made me want to do DnD and I’m super excited to watch this one
I was looking for a background video to watch while drawing my D&D character. So now I'm watching D&D while drawing D&D...
Definitely didn't word that well.
The color scheme for the Quandrix character is my favorite. For looks Lorehold and Silverquil are just amazing. Love it. Cheers!
The owlin is a precious cinnamon roll, too pure for this world, must protecc
Here are my headcanon names for these new character, in order of being drawn:
Silverquill Student: Poe, He/They pronouns (sorta like Edgar Allen Poe? Or like Poet maybe?)
Quandrix Student: Weave, They/Them pronouns (Alex mentioned the character being similar to Wally, so I thought a mixed name between Wally and Eve would suit them)
Prismari Student: Flare, She/Her pronouns (I just thought it sounded cool)
Witherbloom Student: Taiga, She/They pronouns (Taiga is a type of forest biome, specifically a snowy forest, and I thought it would be fitting considering snow and winter are often connected with the cold and death. But a forest, even a snowy one, is still teeming with life. I think it fits the Witherbloom duality well)
Lorehold Student: Harvey, He/Him pronouns (A cute, nerdy name that I really think fits with his vibe)
I cant stop replying "OMG YOUR DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS"
Idk why but thats my favorite part but amazing work and congrats for getting sponsored by THE D&D!
this is the single best DND idea I have seen, You get the school life drama with trying to save the world. Fucking amazing. And the aesthetics omlord
My suggestions for names for these absolutely lovely character designs have to be (in order from left to right): Tempest Blightfyre, Coil Elhammer, Achlius Brangwen, Amaryllis Fairedoe, and Otus Stoneherald :)
It’s so cool to hear your thought process on designing these characters and your specific inspirations for them!! I adore the process of designing characters especially in a D&D setting so this was a huge motivator into creating more characters that I won’t even use anytime soon... (I already happen to have seven characters within nearly a year of playing, and only two of them I’ve actually played with! I have a problem.)
You make me want to buy the guide, not because I play DnD but because the world sounds so fascinating to read about!
Honestly your character creation is just amazing
i LOVED the owl! i have an owl character as well (though they're an aarakocra) and it makes me happy to see another one 😄 i think it would be fun (and cute) to give yours a name that sounds like a bird noise like Qhik or Ourrk ☺️☺️
I remember when I got my hands on strixhaven booster packs and just imidietly fell in love with the characters just from their portrairs on the packaging. Finding out from this video that I'm actually going to be able to make my own character and explore strixhaven is just lursitDUeylylerupapue I can't even described it, so hypes for this
I literally gasped in happiness when I got the notification for this video!
as always, i adore to see each piece of content you create - its all so truly inspiring to improve on my own work more and more (even though im burnt out, it helps though)
i hope you have a wonderful rest of your month ! again thank you for each new wonderful post of yours!
these characters are so well thought out, id love to see a campaign done with this new book
Fun fact, Strix is actually part of the scientific name for a family of owls. For example, Strix Nebulosa is the scientific name of the great gray owl. I just thought it was funny that you drew an owl in the world of Strixhaven!
YESSSSSSS
0:53 makes me laugh everytime 😂
Wonderful designs! Keep up the great work ❤
I love them all and was so excited to see each college student!!!! As for names, L to R: Jessie or Jess for short (maybe Jest as a nickname too!), Xylph, Flare, Mollywart (Molly for short), and Pippin!
Being sponsored by dungeons and dragons is such a flex! BTW the designs are so aesthetically pleasing!
I adore the concept of this new book so much! I gotta buy it and up up with so many characters for this setting!
Love the video! It was really cool to hear you talk through your process and see all these really unique characters!
I was thinking about the first collage, and imagined a bard who just raps their enemies into an early grave.
Oh waw ! All of those characters look super great !
I'm super glad you got to be sponsored by D&D, it just makes me happy considering how much you love it
Happy Christmas eve !
