got a 2kr, fell in love. got a 3ln...3... lemon. finally sorted it out. valve seats are stuffed from factory... five heads, all the same issue. currently servicing and swapping them out on mates bikes. so far, all "carb" issues are suddenly fixed.. had to tool up, as trust me... no shop can service these heads. not properly, anyway. got a 3ln1 in the shed and another frame and donk... main goal... supercharger. ideal, the alternator is basically an after thought, can slip a belt in behind the flywheel and make it all neat... nothing else as suitable. start finding annoying things like the change of valve stem diameters, the change of carbs between 2kr, 3ln1 and 3, etc... thinking about maybe shoving 400 valves in a head... just for giggles...
The lean running can cause valve bounce which is audible ( harsh engine sound) & can damage the camshaft lobes . The petrol tank profile works well for me with the 3LN1 . I use mine on the track only & am looking for a second one for general travel .
I have one as described in other posts I have placed here .They are great for the money . I really love mine . My posture on this motorcycle is better than all it's siblings of that era .
Nice review. What made you go for the Fizzer ? What’s your opinion on the equivalents of this bike, the CBR250RR, ZX2R and GSXR250r ? This should have an EXUP valve which should increase low end torque ?
Axle Rose I'm a fan of Yamaha and Honda but the Honda costs twice as much as all the others. There was only one ZXR250R for sale at the time and the GSXR250 looks a bit odd in my opinion.
Axl , models from the 3LN1 onwards had the back pressure EXUP system with it's slide controlled Denso servo motor .This gave about 10 -12% more power between 4,000 - 9,000 RPM ( friend's dyno comparative test with valve active then inactive ) Redline on my oscilliscope is at 17,000RPM , virtually the same as the MC22 earlier models . I love mine. I have the 3LN1 in gloss black with custom blue decals . It is the best version I can think of & I have it . It is sexy & beautiful . The 3LN1 had twin front discs .
@@domsdriveway1282 Having looked at this video , your EXUP valve was not operating at it's best / properly , especially at the beginning . It was like the MC22(R) at the lower end of it's power curve . I have done comparative testing on road & at Eastern Creek here in Sydney about a year ago with my 3LN1 ( round open headlamps) . I had a standard silver & mid blue MC22(J) from November 1990 to compare it with .Yours was the 3LN3 .
@@domsdriveway1282 I have access to a black & red GSX-R 250 in great shape . My mechanic friend has a dozen motorcycles . It is fun too but a bit more relaxed in posture , I am 5ft 6 in tall . The Gixxer has a nice engine sound also . The front suspension on it dampens vibration a bit better than the FZR 250 .
Παναγιώτης Κ. Nice, I heard that EXUP controls backpressure so I took off the muffler and went for a short ride. Sounded exactly like an F1 car and was ear-popping loud. The factory muffler baffles a lot of the noise.
I have an aftermarket exhaust and I have some problems with the neighbors haha.. I try to leave the area as quiet as possible but still.. you can check it on my channel , i have some videos uploaded.. nothing crazy though.
I wouldn't recommend it - they take a lot of revving to get moving and have a peaky torque band that even scares some experienced riders. You could probably grab a used Yamaha R3 for the same price that will offer more torque, reliability, and rideability. I was 23 when I bought this and I had back-pain after an hour of riding, not to mention the carburetors needing to be warmed up and adjusted, running out of fuel often, and the 80s-style thin tyres - all issues that the R3 doesn't have.
I swapped a new engine into the FZR then sold the bike and the old engine. I now ride a Ninja 400, but haven't been in the right mood to make videos lately.

@@domsdriveway1282 You should have kept the FZR 250 it is a gem .
Fastest 250 cc around
Needs more subs haha
Nishant Dash I'm working on it so hopefully I get an influx of subs soon
