Mr. Fricke, wrote about Judy because he was such a huge fan. And as he said he wrote about her talent, not about her tragedies. Thank you John for not piling on.

Some very interesting discussion here about famous women. I didn't care for Joan as a comedienne but she was an intelligent, educated, and articulate woman and a great conversationalist who had something worthwhile to say and asked good questions too.

I'd forgotten about this show....I love John Frike, I have a few movies with his commentaries, like Easter Parade with beautiful Judy.

Judy was in great voice as evidenced by the clip from The Perry Como Show. It was a nice surprise to see this at the end of the Joan Rivers segment.

Me Fricke was very refreshing. He spoke the truth on so many. I’m so tired of hearing so many use such exploitation about Judy to make more sensation for their publications or books. Did anyone listen or read the coroners reports or more so reports on the autopsy. That clears up a lot. Judy was not wanting to kill herself. EVER! She had to work constantly and could not get the treatments or help she needed. She had been started on these substances at a very young age as young as 10 years old when she was with the GUMM SISTERS. The. At MGM she was under contract at 13. Couldn’t eat much and constantly on a diet. So tiny that every pound showed. Every man in her life messed her up financially or emotionally from David Rose to Luft. Taxes weren’t paid. Every time she finished a job there was the IRS with their cut. She worked and worked and had nothing to show for it. And is t it interesting that after she died, all of her memorabilia was auctioned off for $thousands by me L. Couldn’t he have done that while she was alive and given her at least a little. Sorry but I get so mad about all of this. The creepy business managers tweedlesee and Tweedledun. Vultures!!

I think the "powers that be" back in the day thought adding those comedy bits (Bill Cosby) were a refreshing take on Judy's hits, but was any embellishment really necessary? She's in very good voice here, too.

I love that analogy at 6:10 where these women were no longer "Earthed in reality" ... they were the pinnacles, at the top of the tree and with that comes insane pressure.

Morton makes my skin crawl...and Soto is in denial about Garland's suicide attempts; she admitted to cutting her wrists as well as her throat, albeit, superficially. But the wrist-cutting was not accidental from breaking down a door...And then he has the nerve to say, "...it's DOCUMENTED..." He sounds like a fool.

I believe Spoto is talking about Marilyn Monroe... Joan Rivers references Payne Whitney, which was a psychiatric clinic Marilyn was admitted to.

Something that gets overlooked is that many famous men are also damaged. If they weren't before, they become that way. In other words, neither has much of a chance of finding a stable, normal mate among that environment.

When are we going to stop talking about women being victimized and their terrible childhood??? What about the men and the way they act/behave and treat women? Where is the accountability for the men??? Why do they get to gain weight with no criticism from the media? Why do they get to treat women the way they do and get away with it? I’m not man bashing....I’m just pointing out a different point of view......think about it before you respond. Let’s start asking different questions!!

Always a sensationalist, Joan Rivers always brings out the dirt on everybody. Yet her own personal tragedies could fill a book by itself. And I'm sure in time her daughter will dog her legacy out for the almighty buck.

It's so sad. A remarkable talent and the leeches were all out there to take her to places she should not have gone. She needed someone looking over her that she could trust and who cared for her.

Well, I don't like the shows seeking sensation, spreading conspiracy theories talked by the people who didn't even KNOW personally celebrities and stars like Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe- about the personas larger than life and even bigger than the galaxy of milky way !
I'm sure Judy would not have approved the spooky show like this one. She wanted as kind intelligent and sensitive, talented... she was loving her family and friends and her exciting life ...so again Judy would have wanted to talk about her as an actress, singer, dancer, performer and the wonderful mother of three amazing children, and not as a broke drug addict, with no money... or sthg equally stupid . oh man.. gimme a break...
Guys, something got to give... Judy hardly ever talked bad things about her career, little on her mother and MGM or about her strange husbands' ways... Anyway at least very little... and Judy was the only one who actually was entitled to talk about it. But as far as these guys on the show... no thanks it's silly and even more... rude...

rivers besides being a vulgar racist was very superficial....these women were just like the rest of us....they had demons of various degrees that they fought...and their talents....or living standards didnt save them...they had to cope as best they could....some made it some didnt.....no one ever recovers from the scars of their youth...they only learn to live with them...that some do not make it...means they were just like the rest of humanity...and THAT,,,,should be the only thing one takes from their lives.....outside of their talent.

Sid Luft must have ripped Judy off as badly as everyone else. After their divorce he seemed to be quite comfortable financially, and Judy wasn't. Those who managed her terrific comenack in the early sixties really ripped her off. NEW LAW THAT SHOULD BE: IF A PERSON HAS AN ACCOUNTANT, BY LAW ( THE ACCOUNTANT SHOULD BE TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR SEEING THAT ALL TAXES THAT THEIR EMPLOYER OWES IS PAID. IF NOT PAID THE ACCOUNTANT
FACES THE CONSEQUENCES, NOT HER OR HIS EMPLOYER. UNLESS HIS OR HER EMPLOYER BLEW ALL THEIR MONEY.

I was surprised to see Bill Cosby (the rapist) with Judy. I guess we didn't know then what we know now. I don't think he brought anything to the sketch, on the contrary, he just got in the way. In any case I never found him funny or amusing, I always thought he was a dodgy character and now is all in the open
