Thank you for talking about a series that I discovered long ago. It was a really cute series and something to my younger self really enjoyed. However if you're looking for new series to check out, I got two series that are quite old but I think make a good impact. The series names are called "The Imperfect Girl" and "Skip Beat". If you have the time, I would highly suggest checking these series out. They are really good and you won't be left disappointed.
I didn’t even REALISE the age gap between Ikuto and Amu, I just had a crush on cat boy as an 11 year old and wanted him to end up with her so he’d have more screen time lol. Also his character was way more interesting than anyone else’s.
And his boy-mode shugo chara literally represented the desire to find his own rhythm as himself as opposed to doing things to meet expectations of a different gender because he was essentially growing up as a girl. My friend who had a crush on him now knows they're pansexual and nonbinary. I'm not saying, "If Nagihiko or Nadeshiko was your favorite character, you're gay now," but I'm also not... _not_ saying that.
Shugo Chara was one of my favorite animes when I was middle school. Looking back on it, I realized that diamond was overhyped, like she didn't do anything except make Amu sparkle.
Like fr tho. I loved how cute and levelheaded Dia was, but they never really did anything with her. I finished the show first, and thought "Well the manga usually has more to it, so maybe they did more with her there?" Nope
I think Dia was supposed to represent Amu's inner "sparkle"/ confidence in herself because when Dia turned into an X-Egg it was when Amu was losing confidence in herself (in the anime though I don't know about how the manga played out that scene)
@@paullaw8803 Oh that makes sense. I never thought of that. I guess in some ways Amu did have confidence in herself when she was around her friends but when she was alone, she isolated herself and didn't open up to people
Wasn't there a joke in one of the final episodes where they just wrapped up loose ends for the sake of it and the characters themselves were curious what Dias... Damn it's been so long since I watched this show, I legit can't remember the name of the partial transformation thing, but hers just made Amu smile sparkly and everyone was disappointed and confused XD
literally im so mad that shit was still in the anime they could've cut it out, there would be no difference to the plot, and it would be significantly more comfortable to watch! maybe let amu become friends with ikuto with no romantic sparkles!
The fact that people want ship ikuto and amu is weird. I never shipped them when I was younger. I shipped amu and tadase because the age gap isn't weird.
@@babydinosaurr I know right?? I bought that manga but never finished it. I don't like how they just got rid of Ichigo. The original ending to the main series was good enough for me.
I never thought i'd see the day on 2020 someone would talk about Shugo Chara but ditto with your opinion on the series, I watched it during my middle school years and afterwards read the manga but I do appreciate being able to relate to amu and her friends, now I just don't get it lmao. Happy to have liked it while I was younger but now It's just a thing I used to like. Thank you and great video!
Oh thank goodness, someone else finds it weird that a 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL is being hit on and has a crush on a 17-YEAR-OLD BOY and that we're just supposed to accept that like it's the most normal thing in the world! I've been watching your videos for a few months now, Negative, but now you have a new subscriber! Woo, can't wait to see more!
The crush on him isn’t even so much the problem as the potential reciprocation. I’ve certainly crushed on upperclassmen, especially when I was younger. But if anything I wanted to become their friend out of admiration and hoped they didn’t dislike me. But if they hit on me?? Major red flags
I remember watching all 127 episodes of this as a kid AMU is one of those magical girl protagonists that were genuinely relatable I can barely finish 12 episodes now 😭
I couldnt get passed the 2 episode 😭 its so sad this was my preteen hood but its so stupid now. I wished i hadn't watched it again so it would live positively in my memory
I recently rewatched the whole show again (only ever watched it once when i was ???..somewhere in primary/ yr6-7, genuinely it shaped my being me(?) now ig) and I gotta say, it’s still one of my favourites (tho had to skip a LOT cause it’s (ig) a lot of filler :/) :)
@@vanillabananacrepe I will say season 3 is a let down. they started to push bits with the eggsonas and gave them a non cannon talk/varaity show segment that went from 5 minutes in season 2 to a half eggsona half anime show and the anime really suffered plots that would have been 2-3 shows to get fixed are brought up and fixed half hartedly in the same episode
@@ShatoraDragondore I still think it's worth it to watch the last episode of season 3 tho if you like the character Ikuto (that's the season that has the live action, right? I mean "watch" as in skip right to the animated segments) because the last episode has a funny Ikuto scene
I had the same feeling re-reading Cardcaptor Sakura manga, and just the shock and horror of seeing them portraying a relationship between a elementary school girl and her adult teacher as sweet and romantic.
I'll admit, looking back on Shugo Chara, I... can see why its a bad story. Honestly I watched this in middle school too and I never quite fully noticed the incest part. Nor the middle schooler and high schooler situation. I was an innocent and sheltered child. _But anyway,_ that doesn't change the fact that I absolutely _adore_ the anime. I know you're talking about the manga but it's still the same story. I love the character designs and the message the story gives. It helped me a lot throughout the horrors of middle school, and rightfully introduced me to the Magical Girl genre. I was bullied a lot and had trouble trying to figure out who to be and what to do, but come to find out Hinamori is in the same boat, I learned that I need to just be myself. Easier said than done, but I survived, didn't I? ALSO _I refuse to believe the same people who made the horror that is DearS, the anime I highly don't recommend for anyone's sanity, also made Shugo Chara._ That just doesn't process with me.
The anime for DearS and SC! are both shit, read the manga for both and you'll find that they're MILES better. That's the problem with anime only watchers...
@@himejoshi-online 守護 (shugo) means to protect/ to guard. Chara is a common abbreviation for "character" in conversational Japanese, that can also be understood as "personality". So "Shugo Chara" means "Guardian Character" ( or your guardian "personality" context-wise).
It’s also a Greek name meaning Joy As well as a green and yellow striped shirt wearing child from Undertale who people have 10 hour debates always about either their gender and whether they are evil or good or neither, the way their name Is. Everybody also wants to see this child fight every existing force In the world to see how It would turn out
This will go unnoticed but I'll leave some recommendations here; •Sugar Sugar Rune (I totally recommend reading the manga, it gives more explanation and development) •Ojamajo Doremi or Magical Doremi (it's quite long with 5 seasons but one of my favorites since I first watched it ♥️♥️♥️) •Tokyo Mew Mew (What I like about this is probably the 'relationship' between the main characters and the supposed villains? I haven't rewatched it yet so I don't remember much) •Princess Tutu (Is a masterpiece, doesn't have a lot of episodes like most magical girls do but the storytelling is really pretty) •Mermaid Melody (They fight with... songs, which to this day I still listen, also it's very catching, I could watch it again and again sgdjsvd) •Full Moon Wo Sagashite (*sad noises* also has songs and it's very pretty) •Kobato (I don't know if this goes here but it's a shoujo one and there's some magic involved, it's pretty too;;) •Ashita no Nadja (Also don't know if this goes here, but is also a shoujo anime and is really pretty ♥️) •Shin ShirayukiHime Densetsu Pretear (Honestly I don't remember much of this one but I feel like I did like it, and that the transformation was weird sgdbsvd) •Yumeiro Patissiere (I really loved this when I was in middle school, in a way it's kinda similar to Shugo Chara bc of the uh, faeries, and it's really interesting too because of the pastries contests (idk if it's spelled like that) ) •Gakuen Alice (I have to rewatch this one since I don't remember kuch but it was enjoyable and I liked it) If someone read this then I'll take advantage and say: Watch Chihayafuru, that's it. Thank you 👉👈✨ (sorry for bad english btw)
ngl. yumeiro patissiere was good. the whole concept is amazing cuz it different from most anime shows at that time (even now) and they character development are pretty good
Oh no... I watched Mermaid Melody an eternity ago in Italian on RUclips I think. And YOU just triggered my brain into playing one of their songs on repeat. I'd managed to banish it for over a year by now and you ruined everything
And after all these years, people still don't know how that 'chara' is short for character and it's pronounced with a k-sound Still appreciate the video tho, not many people talk about this series
I was just thinking that since I’m watching Ladybug now. Frankly Ladybug holds up better, since I can enjoy it as an adult but I don’t think I could enjoy shugo chara now. Also I think the plot of Ladybug differs greatly and is more solidly put together. But the whole catching evil eggs/akumas that transform people into worst versions of themselves is certainly there
I was obsessed with this show back in the elementary school, it was one of my first magical girl anime. Too bad it went downhill after the second season. I guess I’m going to read the manga soon lmao
Throwback to when the AMV was alive and well in 2009-2012 and I was literally known as the Amu girl since I always picked her as my character for icons and backgrounds in like every AMV studio I joined.
Okay so you asked for recommendations so here you go: Tokyo Mew Mew Princess Tutu (I like the anime better for this, but it has a manga that I believe came after the anime that changes a lot of things.) Magi (Because it’s my favorite) Puella Magi Madonna Magica I have a lot stuff I could recommend, but I thought it be interested to see a video on these four.
I can see how magi is your favorite, considering how your profile pic is aladdin. One of the main characters. I too love magi for its awesome story, great fights, and margianna the ex slave turned super badass. She's my favorite 😊
Thank you for finally talking about this animanga omg. It’s literally my favourite thing. I still reread the manga every few years and I love it regardless, same with the anime. It has its flaws, but it’s characters and messages still pull through for me
Seems like a huge missed opportunity for the boss of Easter to want the Embryo so he can resurrect his parents. Not exactly subtle, but at least it's something.
I want to recommend reading a Manga called: English: Chocolate Magic Japanese: Chocolat no Mahou made by: Rino Mizuhon It evens has an Anime version of it, but i'm not really sure if it's good compared to the Manga version.
They should have atleast made him Kukai's age in the anime and made him smaller and the same size as Amu and the rest. Because he is obviously older than them, it makes him look more like a creep lmao
For heaven sake, it's not the end of the world that Amu and Ikuto are 5 years apart I actually ship them because of how they well they interact with each other and they look cute together But seriously everyone in the entire comment is just making a mountain out of a molehill. Do you want me to name you a list of all the anime couple that have a way more different age gap then this? Cause I can and I can bet you that you have seen/read it and had no problem what's so ever in them being a couple.
@@anez1266 why you acting like my comment is the end of the world? Trust me, I think they’re a cute couple too but the age gap makes me uncomfortable because anything more than 4 years to me feels like it’s too much. Like, wouldn’t you find it weird if you were in grade 12 and about to graduate and you were dating someone in grade 8?? Like, I love their chemistry but that’s a red flag.
@@anez1266 The problem is that Ikuto is (at most) one year away from being a legal adult and Amu is a literal tween. A child. Not even in high school. Ship them as much as you want, but you cannot deny that the age gap is an issue. It would have been better if they made Amu about 15 and Ikuto 16
people:THE ROMANCE IS WEIRD!! me looking at the age gap between my grandparents: 4 years isnt so bad. it's just cause they're kids. maybe that's why ikuto left? he does say he'll be back when she's older.
OMG, I'm so happy you covered Shugo Chara! If you want more magical girl manga from early 2000's for future analysis vids, Tokyo Mew Mew or Mermaid Melody were both pretty big at the time and just as strange and wonderful. Not afraid to admit that Shugo Chara was my jam when I was 12-14 lol. I waited every Saturday for the next episode to be translated and all the manga sits comfortably on my shelf to this day... I'm 26 now... it's fine. I mainly keep it for nostalgia and I enjoy Peach-Pit's art style
Shugo chara, Tokyo mew mew, Magical doremi, and mermaid Melody were my entire childhood Edit: ok I know you didn’t watch the anime but the OP slapped Also you should check out Puella Magi Madoka Magica thats a really good magical girl show for an older audience
I also loved Mermaid Melody but like I could only watch it on youtube and, at the time, there were literally two episodes out. So I just watched them a bunch of times.
Manga recommendation: •Sakura Hime Kaden Absolutely beautiful artstyle and artwork, entertaining romance (and not cliche), intense battles for a shoujo manga, and suspense since the very beginning! The story even has some lore behind it. Protagonist is a bit typical but some characters are quite interesting! One of the best and most unique older shoujo and magical girl mangas I know. I love the combination of Japanese history and supernatural. Definitely worth trying if you like the genre!
The age gap between Amu and Ikuto got a lot more uncomfortable for me somewhere between when I was a “fresh outta the mentary”middle school kid simping for him and when I became an adult with common sense about grooming practices. (SPOILERS) A 17 year old flirting with an 11 year old (sneaking into her room for the night, hugging her close, teasing her) is something I’d rather not see. She’s out here playing hopscotch at recess while you’re doing calculus and learning quadratic equations my guy 🤦♀️ plus him saying that he’s not going to form a relationship with her until she’s grown feels so groomy. Like your dads friend saying he likes you but he’s not gonna try anything till you’re legal. What’s even worse is (and correct me if I’m wrong, it’s been a while) that at the end Amu tells him she’ll come back to him when she’s older and it just feels like he succeeded. It flipped that whole romance narrative in my head immediately.
try reading Shaman King, it's another manga/anime from the late 90-early 2000's 4kids era, and it has a rlly cool reboot coming out in april so it'll definitely be trending again
What I learned... The more learn about Japanese the more you realize the name are uncreative. I’m now wondering what Lillie name is in Japanese? Lillie: “What be my name, meaning?”
I help out on a confession blog on tumblr sometimes, and because of that has to do some research sometimes. Apparently she's called Lillie in Japan too, but Lillie is probably from Lily, which is ゆり(Yuri) in Japanese which is also slang for lesbian, as some people there thought lesbians were lily people. So it could be just the flower or you can chose to read into it.
This is funny to me since I've gotten more and more into donghua lately, and a lot of the Chinese names are designed to be super poetic and meaningful; especially when it's set in a xianxia/wuxia setting like Mo Dao Zu Shi. The one I can think of off the top of my head is Jiang Yanli, which means "hate/can't bear to part" and ties into her character's story. In contrast I remember finding out when I was little that the Mamotte! Lollipop characters were just named after numbers in Japanese. 😂 Like it was literally Zero, Ichi, Nina, San, Forte, etc. Just an observation! Not a knock against manga/anime. I just thought it was kind of amusing.
Yeah, but is sad we don't ever think about the meaning of the names for the characters here in our media lmao Idk, the only book I read that actually tried to use the meaning of the name was about some angelic figures (their characters served this purprose) and use their literally translation from aramic and other languages: Daniel, the server of God/Rafael, who heals the injuries/Isabel, the God's lamb (she was the needed to unleash the apocalypse in the book by the order of God and she opposed It)/Martínez, the son of war (he was a general)/Jared, the fragile rose (he was a child who was also prince and his family's sign were roses)/etc
@@zarinapena5846 many Japanese names in media are based on puns too, look at Gyakuten Saiban/Ace Attorney and the Disastrous Life of Saiki K. for example. Some are good, others bad. Mario is called that because of NoA's landlord at the time, Luigi got his name from Ruiji, meaning "another", and it happened to be the katakana for another Italian name, so it was perfect. Having thought behind the names and what they mean is a lot of fun. Many English (as in from England) stories have punny names too. Having a pair of Scandinavian werewolf twins called Alf (used to be short for adolf, "Noble wolf") and Ylva (female wolf), gives both a hint to the reader and serves a purpose. Timmy means "Honouring God" or "Honoured by God", and aside from the creator of a certain show with underlying motives, most don't have any special character called that "Timmy, chosen by God", although most do not take the name very seriously these days. Sheldon in TBBT means "valley with steep sides" and besides a reference to someone doesn't really mean anything for the character, maybe. Although, like in USA, one can apparently call one's children whatever one want in Japan. So Utau isn't less of a name than Hope or Joy. And despite having rules, here in Norway Stein, literally meaning "stone", is a really common name.
As for new things, I would recommend: Tokyo Mew Mew (like several others) Yumeiro Patissere (kinda like Shugo Chara but with pastries) PowerPuff Girls Z (Magical girl twist on PPG) Magi: the Labyrinth of Magic (and the Sinbad sequel) Mermaid Melody (mermaids who fight sea villains with the power of song~) ...And I can't think of anymore that you haven't already done...
I love Shugo Chara so much! I watched it when I was like younger than Amu herself is in the anime and it really spoke to me. I rewatched it a while ago and it still kinda held up for me! I think it's cause Ii was never really watching it for the plot or for the relationships but for the way that personal growth was handled. I loved seeing people come to terms with their flaws or misfortune and figure out how to carry on without what they felt so attached to.
Thank you for making a video about this. This series legitimately changed my life. I read it as a child and I was being bullied constantly and it really helped me through middle school.
everyone talking about how they had a crush on ikuto while i had a crush on nagihiko and went out of my way just to read nagihiko x reader fanfictions i-
@@Florceleste28 Its true, the shippers were so pissed off when Ikuto got put on a bus and the filler anime season that came due to it. That the manga was cancelled and the writer had to rush the ending.
Everytime I bring up this show, even to my anime friends, no one seems to have heard of it. It was my introduction to manga/anime in elementary school so finding a whole 8 min on it made me so happy!!
Oh, this series comes from that golden time when a series could be weird and just do whatever without risking getting called out. It was special, tho the last arc and the ending was really meh. I don't think I would call it one of my favorites but it had its charm.
'golden time' lmao??? This is a weird take especially considering the fact that the whole incest and age gap thing added NOTHING to the show value wise and was just weird. It wasn't some brave controversial artistic decision that would get misunderstood in today's time, it was just a weird 'wtf anime' moment and should rightfully be called out lol
This is exactly why I call it golden time, for me, idk for the rest. A series didn't need a big reason for include anything or take a controversial stand. It was just weird, like you say, but it didn't matter. One could just read it and shrug off the weird or just not read it. So simple.
The scene I remember the most for this feverdream of an anime/manga (though I'm a huge fan of Rozen Maiden to this day, that series is lit and Peach-Pit are such talented mangakas) is that scene where Tadase confesses to Amu as her Amulet Heart persona, not as Amu herself! That was wild. He was crushing on her possible self as happy-go-lucky atlethic girl?? Though I found that the more they got to know each others the more sides they realised in each others that they liked... Until that scene where Amu like took care of sick Ikuto and instead of going to her friends for help she hid them from them for what?? Like even if she knew they didn't like Ikuto he was very ill so unless they are like assassins who don't care for basic human life why would she hid that from them. But then Tadase found out and was like 100% disillusioned or whatever with Amu... and after that the very creepy pairing of an 12 year old and a 17 year old set sail with a pirate (quite literally) on board!
I loved Shugo Chara in middle school. Just like Amu I didn't know who I wanted to be or what I wanted to do. And neither did some of my friends and classmates. So I would create Charas and eggs for them and myself. It didn't resonate as much with them as it did me (cause they didn't watch the anime) but they still appreciated it and felt attached to the little drawings. The idea of these little beings inside your heart guiding you to be who you wanted/were meant to be comforted me. And in a way, the fact that they didn't appear if they weren't needed, helped me. I didn't have one and I didn't see them, so I didn't need them. Yes I know it's a show and they don't actually exist, but look at the Harry Potter fandom crying over not getting their Hogwarts letters. We all want something fantastic and magical in our life. I also own the anime and a random volume of the manga, and I have to agree with you, I can never make it past the first couple episodes. As much as I love it, it just doesn't hold the same magic and feeling when you're older and know the direction you're meant for.
I got so excited when I saw the notification, this manga was my childhood!! I too just reread it recently so this vid was a fun coincidence lol (I personally still found it very comforting tho
honestly speaking, when i was a kid there were only three (3) things that i frankly gave a shit about: 1) ikuto, this mighty fine cat-human hybrid specimen freak, 2) amu's gorgeous design & her taste in fashion, and 3) nagihiko's existence that opened the gates of my pansexual awakening. other shit i only consider plot fillers and background extras, sorry. then i grew up and lo and behold-i'm kind of put off by the fact that ikuto's EIGHTEEN (how tf did i miss this info? i was obsessed with this nonexistent man) and amu's in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. it's not even the romance or the literal age gap that bothers me, but the execution; my parents have a 9 year age gap, but I sure as hell know my dad didn't start a relationship with my mom when she was still in grade school. and it's appalling how some fans justified it with 'age is just a number' or 'but ikuto wants her to hurryand grow up'-like, that's grooming? not saying that that's what ikuto had in mind, ik he's a good boi. but the implications are still there, and it's fucked up that people downplays that just because he's cute and they're cute together (which they are!!! ugh, why did they have to make the settings in elementary school, and why did he have to be so old!!) no, but they could've just made ikuto a year or two older than amu, and idk make her a shrimp or smth if ur sUcH a lolicon :/ and boom, ikuto wouldn't have to feel like a craddle robber everytime he imagines taking amu out on a carnival date. but that's too much to ask ig
i only read like the first 4 volumes of the manga bc a friend bought them for me and the real appeal for me was 1. hot catboy, 2. the lil chibi characters that i can't remember the name of for the life of me, and 3. i just really like card suit aesthetics
"I don't know how elementary schooler has better fashion sense than me" Actually it is stated early on that Amus mom buys her clothes so it is her mom that has better fashion sense than you not Amu herself.
Ooh, great video! I remember this series. Great basic premise, weird age differences in main love interests... but no one really complains much about Sailor Moon's same situation (Usagi is 14 at the start, Mamoru is like... 18, 19? Yikes.). I'm surprised no one in the US licensed the anime... because it would've been a bigger hit for the magical girl/boy aesthetic & for the message of discovering your true self. Manga/Series Recommendations to talk about: ▪Tokyo Mew Mew (has a manga, a lackluster "sequel" continuation, an anime, the 4Kids dubbed version that never completed the show, and is now getting a new series soon! ▪anything by CLAMP... maybe series like Chobits, Wish, Kobato or Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle (all except Wish have an anime adaptation) ▪If you can find the manga for either Princess Tutu or Prétear, they are definitely lesser-known manga but good short reads (2 volumes each; also both are magical girl series with an anime series that... makes changes from its source material. Both focus on fairy tale tropes & put a spin on them!)
Fun Fact Peach-Pit also did illustrated Zombie Loan another manga series which has a pretty cool concept and is an interesting read , but Rozen Maiden is great and is probably my favorite thing they have done so highly recommend reading it, DearS is very different from shugo chara and is written for a much older audience. So happy to see you do a vid on this series as i dont see people talk about it much and it was absolutely one of my favorites as a kid and i was in the peak demographic when it was being serialized, but ya...... there are definitely some questionable things that happen in the manga/anime... mainly ikutos age and his sister being in love with him. I agree with you on the message of the manga it really is about growing up and finding yourself, Im still very attached to the characters in the story because i feel like all of them go through different arcs where they grow as people and i related to it alot when i was a kid. Also recommend checking out the manga Sugar Sugar Rune, its a magical girl/witch manga but I dont feel like people talk about it enough at all, it had a pretty interesting story and i still think it holds up pretty well.
As someone who grew up with this series, I'm surprised to see it again. To be honest, I agree with a lot with what you said lol. But honestly, it still has this appeal, and I can understand why I liked that appeal. The lesson they're trying to teach is pretty good, the execution could be better though it is a series aimed for like, elementary and middle schoolers so it is to be expected lol
You literally recapped it so beautifully. I remember feeling the warm fuzzies when I watched it when I was younger. Then I tried to rewatch it in college and I just couldn't. The age gap between Ikuto and Amu killed me when I rewatched it haha. But you're right that it's not about the plot! All of the characters are so interesting and their back stories really add to it, especially when you're growing up and trying to figure out your own identity. Thanks for making this video! Also, I would recommend reading Strobe Edge if you haven't already!
Shugo-Chara is so underrated! It's awesome you decide to do this! I re-read it myself and I totally get what you mean. Still to everyone who remembers this slice of childhood kudos to you! *Tips hat off*
Rima was my favourite character, I love the jester/clown look. Heads up Rozen Maiden is kinda messy. Like the manga ended with a weird ending, I think it got picked up again. There are like 2 kinda different kinda the same anime. Good luck if you ever dive into it. (I thought cat boy was in grade 7)
I GREW UP WITH SHUGO CHARA IN MY WEEB MIDDLE SCHOOL YEARS 😭😭😭 this is just so much nostalgia for me. while i didn't necessarily watch the anime and preferred the manga, this is such a great video. also while everyone else was for Ikuto/Amu, i honestly loved Tadase/Amu and i still do to this day Heksjrksjd
You should look into “Stepping on Roses”. I haven’t looked into the Manga since I first read it, but I remember thinking the story was quite a wild ride. (Although maybe my memories deceive me since I grew up in a very sheltered home, idk.) I remember Shugo-Chara as the first book series that really got me into reading. I struggled a lot over the years with reading and I don’t even remember what compelled me to pick up the first book, but I was definitely hooked after that. It really helped and this video has inspired me to go find a way to read all those old Manga series again.
Phantom thief Jeanne is such a great series. Arina tanemura really needs more anime for her series. Sakura hime and idol dreams would definitely be fun to watch.
@@yunogasai1338 Arina Tanemura's art is so gorgeous and distinct and she has so many great mangas that it's sad that only a couple of them got turned into animes. Any of them would definitely be popular if they ever got turned into animes now.
this was the first manga i ever read as well as one of the first anime i ever watched. i saw the thumbnail, immediately knew it had to be a videos of yours and IVE NEVER CLICKED SO FAST
I actually got confused as a child when the incest part came in. Like, I was still piecing out the whole thing about them being cousins but utau and tadase (idk I felt like he liked ikuto until the x eggs happened and whatnot) liking ikuto had me zone out on those times lmao
I got into the anime in highschool and honestly I still feel the same fuzzy feelings. I've rewatched it a few times over the years and it still makes me feel warm and hopeful and inspired. Maybe give the anime a try :)
This was actually the first anime I ever watched! I watched it from start to finish when I was about 12 or 13? And the only reason I did was because I had a big crush on Ikuto lol I discovered him through a cute little flash dating Sim game called Wonderland Sim Days on deviantart one of the cheatcodes was his name I think? I popped that name into Google images and that was that I immediately found the show online and watched the whole thing purely motivated by my own thirst for angsty cat boys. Imagine my disappointment when he only had like 10 scenes 😅
My weeb friends and I loved this when we were in middle school. I'm pretty sure one of them drew Shugo Chara OCs. I _know_ I drew one that was literally me and had a shugo chara that was a writer. One friend (who put Honto no Jibun on her Bat Mitzvah reception playlist) and I had crushes on Tadase and Ikuto, and my other friend (who illegally downloaded ALL the songs from this show and put them on their mp3 player) may have had a crush on Ikuto (I don't remember) but definitely had a crush on Nagihiko. Also, the OPs and EDs got me into Hello Project.
I got the first volume of the manga as a gift form a friend when I was in 5th grade. Although I really aged up Amu in my head I thought she was 14-17?? And oof even as a kid I didn’t like Ikuto he was just weird around Amu
Me: realizing the fl is in fifth grade and the love interest is in his senior year of highschool years later after watching it. 😬 I used to simp for their romance but now I'm like wahhhhh. Transformations and outfits are cool though.. top notch. 👌
man.. now here's a video i never expected to pop up in my subscriptions! shugo chara was my very first anime when i was about 11, and i love it dearly. as a girl who grew up pretending to not like ""girly"" things so as not to seem ""weak"", i had a strong attachment to amu. i loved the series message that no matter how scared you are to grow and become someone new, there will be people who support you and love who you truly are... and you may even make friends you never expected just by opening up. if we're talking series recommendations, i'd love to see you do a video on the original pokemon adventures manga!
They really should have made the main lead a middle schooler or high schooler, would have made the love plot less weird and kids at the age range are really starting to question themselves and wondering what they’ll do in the future.
There this manga called Plus Anima(or +Anima ). That I absolutely love. I've re-readed the series multiple times over the years. And I still enjoy it. Maybe it is something you would be interested in?

Thank you for talking about a series that I discovered long ago. It was a really cute series and something to my younger self really enjoyed. However if you're looking for new series to check out, I got two series that are quite old but I think make a good impact.
The series names are called "The Imperfect Girl" and "Skip Beat". If you have the time, I would highly suggest checking these series out. They are really good and you won't be left disappointed.

@@Gir0Fan0Number01 Exactly. The most memorable parts of the show were the openings, transformations, and the lessons amu gave everyone

•Sakura Hime Kaden
Absolutely beautiful artstyle and artwork, entertaining romance (and not cliche), intense battles for a shoujo manga, and suspense since the very beginning!

SHUGO CHARA WAS THE SHIT
『MY HEART UNLOOOOOOOOCK』
Like it was literally Zero, Ichi, Nina, San, Forte, etc.
Just an observation! Not a knock against manga/anime. I just thought it was kind of amusing.
@@TeruteruBozusama oh neat! Thanks for that tidbit
Yeah, but is sad we don't ever think about the meaning of the names for the characters here in our media lmao
Idk, the only book I read that actually tried to use the meaning of the name was about some angelic figures (their characters served this purprose) and use their literally translation from aramic and other languages: Daniel, the server of God/Rafael, who heals the injuries/Isabel, the God's lamb (she was the needed to unleash the apocalypse in the book by the order of God and she opposed It)/Martínez, the son of war (he was a general)/Jared, the fragile rose (he was a child who was also prince and his family's sign were roses)/etc
As for new things, I would recommend:
Tokyo Mew Mew (like several others)
Yumeiro Patissere (kinda like Shugo Chara but with pastries)
PowerPuff Girls Z (Magical girl twist on PPG)
Magi: the Labyrinth of Magic (and the Sinbad sequel)
Mermaid Melody (mermaids who fight sea villains with the power of song~)
...And I can't think of anymore that you haven't already done...

So simple.
2007-2010 were the best years
I have been waiting for this video for so long 😆🙏🏼
*sees Shugo Chara name*
My brain in 0.01 sec: Hop! Step! Jump!
I know he didn't talk about the anime here but ALL OF THE ANIME OPENINGS WERE BANGERS
Man you literally go through my entire childhood lmao
Ikuto was one of my first anime boy crushes (I only kept up with the series for him)
I loved Shugo Chara in middle school.
From goth guy to surfer dude real quick and I gotta say,
*I LOVE IT!*
I got so excited when I saw the notification, this manga was my childhood!! I too just reread it recently so this vid was a fun coincidence lol (I personally still found it very comforting tho
i’m shocked they never had a dub done for this anime
honestly speaking, when i was a kid there were only three (3) things that i frankly gave a shit about: 1) ikuto, this mighty fine cat-human hybrid specimen freak, 2) amu's gorgeous design & her taste in fashion, and 3) nagihiko's existence that opened the gates of my pansexual awakening. other shit i only consider plot fillers and background extras, sorry.
then i grew up and lo and behold-i'm kind of put off by the fact that ikuto's EIGHTEEN (how tf did i miss this info? i was obsessed with this nonexistent man) and amu's in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. it's not even the romance or the literal age gap that bothers me, but the execution; my parents have a 9 year age gap, but I sure as hell know my dad didn't start a relationship with my mom when she was still in grade school. and it's appalling how some fans justified it with 'age is just a number' or 'but ikuto wants her to hurryand grow up'-like, that's grooming? not saying that that's what ikuto had in mind, ik he's a good boi. but the implications are still there, and it's fucked up that people downplays that just because he's cute and they're cute together (which they are!!! ugh, why did they have to make the settings in elementary school, and why did he have to be so old!!)
no, but they could've just made ikuto a year or two older than amu, and idk make her a shrimp or smth if ur sUcH a lolicon :/ and boom, ikuto wouldn't have to feel like a craddle robber everytime he imagines taking amu out on a carnival date.
but that's too much to ask ig
i only read like the first 4 volumes of the manga bc a friend bought them for me and the real appeal for me was 1. hot catboy, 2. the lil chibi characters that i can't remember the name of for the life of me, and 3. i just really like card suit aesthetics
"I don't know how elementary schooler has better fashion sense than me"
Actually it is stated early on that Amus mom buys her clothes so it is her mom that has better fashion sense than you not Amu herself.
Ever since I watched this video I've fallen down an Ikuto rabbit hole. I'm whipped for a man I've just discovered today. Lord help me.
Manga/Series Recommendations to talk about:
▪Tokyo Mew Mew (has a manga, a lackluster "sequel" continuation, an anime, the 4Kids dubbed version that never completed the show, and is now getting a new series soon!
▪anything by CLAMP... maybe series like Chobits, Wish, Kobato or Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle (all except Wish have an anime adaptation)
▪If you can find the manga for either Princess Tutu or Prétear, they are definitely lesser-known manga but good short reads (2 volumes each; also both are magical girl series with an anime series that... makes changes from its source material. Both focus on fairy tale tropes & put a spin on them!)
me watching shugo chara when I was 11 made me hope I was young enough to lay tiny superpower eggs-
Fun Fact Peach-Pit also did illustrated Zombie Loan another manga series which has a pretty cool concept and is an interesting read , but Rozen Maiden is great and is probably my favorite thing they have done so highly recommend reading it, DearS is very different from shugo chara and is written for a much older audience.
This always felt to me like Gakuen Alice with less stuff in it.
Gakuen Alice went dark so fast
they did my boy tadase so dirty at the end, he got no bitches
Good, I didn't like him anyway🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯💯💯🆙🆙🆙🆙🆙🆙
Also, I would recommend reading Strobe Edge if you haven't already!
the first anime i watched, i even painted easter eggs as eggs from the show
Shugo-Chara is so underrated!
Ah, yeah, shugo-chara...that was a weird middle school phase for sure
You should look into “Stepping on Roses”. I haven’t looked into the Manga since I first read it, but I remember thinking the story was quite a wild ride. (Although maybe my memories deceive me since I grew up in a very sheltered home, idk.)
I remember Shugo-Chara as the first book series that really got me into reading. I struggled a lot over the years with reading and I don’t even remember what compelled me to pick up the first book, but I was definitely hooked after that. It really helped and this video has inspired me to go find a way to read all those old Manga series again.
Oh my god please read "phantom thief jeanne" its has an anime but I prefer the manga I read it twice and wanna read it again ngl 😂
Reminds me a lot of Kaitou Saint Tail, just more religion.
this was the first manga i ever read as well as one of the first anime i ever watched. i saw the thumbnail, immediately knew it had to be a videos of yours and IVE NEVER CLICKED SO FAST
MY CHILDHOOD
Shugo chara was my favorite anime/manga growing up
It's even inspired my original character's outfits lol
Instead of sailor moon, I grew up on this! Yay.
They really should have made the main lead a middle schooler or high schooler, would have made the love plot less weird and kids at the age range are really starting to question themselves and wondering what they’ll do in the future.
kinda reminded me of Jewel Pets despite not having a lot incommon...
I haven't heard that anime in YEARS
I watched both of them on teletoun+ (French TV channel for kids) and man that used to be the moment back then
Idk who you are but you’re the first guy to make me laugh in months just in the first two minutes. So I applaud you
yas
There this manga called Plus Anima(or +Anima ). That I absolutely love. I've re-readed the series multiple times over the years. And I still enjoy it. Maybe it is something you would be interested in?
