      Well I think the tonal shift is just accurate to real life : sometimes you go through major struggles and emotional turmoil and next to you someone is doing silly sh** and you're like
      "🤦🏻‍♂....hhsgfishfgbisfvbgifvhi!!!! Lord give me strength" 😅

      That being said I agree with what he said about Palm being the comedic relief : even though I know that it is a very commun trope in anime and even other media to make those type of characters no more than that, I don't really like that it takes away the seriousness of her condition and so it would take an extra effort from the viewers to take her seriously and think about the very serious psychological complexity of her character which is a shame, but again I think Togashi gives us enough of Palm and her character growth to make her stand out to attentive viewers, and this is more than many authors would do so I don't complain too much

  • @bluestone4517
    @bluestone4517 2 месяца назад +3

    My headcanon is that Ramott's shock made his Ken falter. Otherwise it doesn't make much sense for Killua to kill him so easily (the needle wouldn't kick in if he was much stronger).
    Rammot's demise was mainly due to his lack of experience.

  • @CR-hj2hk
    @CR-hj2hk 2 месяца назад +9

    41:24 the fact that Killua was able to kill him that easily is the reason why I think the needle's manipulation was smth really simple and straightforward : only a few conditions to make it more effective, not so specific, hence with a broader application...
    smth like 'if the opponent's aura is stronger than yours (=bigger aura capacity, which doesn't take experience and techniques or even the person's nature into consideration) flee' ...
    that would explain why Killua instinctively avoided Hisoka in the Hunter exam bc he 'felt' through the needle's analysis, which can be based on his unconscious perception of nen, that Hisoka was stronger than him (ofc you can argue that even without it Hisoka just exudes trouble 😅but I like a more technical explanation too)
    So, like Im said at the beginning, Killua's reaction to the new Rammot, nen user Rammot, was an indication of his aura capacity which is bigger bc he's an ant (most ants have naturally bigger aura/life energy than humans) but Rammot (like most ants) lacks the experience and techniques so without the needle's limitations Killua can easily prevail through his superior abilities

    • @knightcommander5694
      @knightcommander5694 2 месяца назад

      Indeed. Killua was just too fast for rammot at this point. He could just focus more nen in his hand and Rammot was too slow to protect his neck/head with more aura

    Poor Palm, just wanted some attenttions, no matter in what forms, and forcing it onto others.
    this episode has the kind of subtexts that all viewers will miss.
    In the whole episode we have two children being abused and harassed.
    We have 2 predators in different forms:
    + Rammot inflicting violence and murderous intent onto Killua
    + Palm inflicting and forcing sexual harassment onto Gon.
    The cut from Palm raging face straight to Rammot's raging face is a good indicator of how similar the 2 are. 😂
    Palm is also switching quickly from Gon back to Knov, showing how far the self destructive individual would go for some self imposed delusions.
    Palm's backstory must have been some gruesome shits.

    BTW Rammot in Japanese used the word 'yaru' when speaking of killing Killua, which is a correct translation given the context, HOWEVER 'yaru' also has an explicit meaning which is 100% intentional on Togashi's part (it happens as well with Hisoka) as there are terms which mean to kill without having that other R18 meaning... it adds to the sickening horror of Rammot's excitement, and contributes to the gross juxtaposition between Gon's date with Palm and Killua's "date" with Rammot 💀

    • @fahrenheit2101
      @fahrenheit2101 2 месяца назад

      It also translates rather well into English. The verb "to do" works oddly similarly: I've heard it used both in the killing context and of course the explicit context. Admittedly, it's pretty rare to hear it used to describe killing, and it's definitely informal, but nonetheless, it's an intriguing coincidence (or perhaps the versatility of such a verb lends itself to having such meanings, making it less of a coincidence than it might seem at first)

    havent watched the discussion portion yet so i dont know filmbuffs thoughts about it, but something always bugged me about there being a physical object that was inhibiting Killua. i wished that it was him breaking through psychologically. not a big deal overall but just a moment that i thought could be really good for Killua's development if done that way

    • @UltimatePower01
      @UltimatePower01 2 месяца назад +24

      Without his psychological breakthrough, he may not have had the willpower to remove the needle. This episode made it very clear with the multiple vibrations coming from Killua’s head that this object is struggling to keep Killua at bay at this point (which made it noticeable to Killua that it exists). I felt the same as you, but now I see it as a physical manifestation of Killua’s freedom.

    • @Xynflame
      @Xynflame 2 месяца назад +12

      @UltimatePower01 my thoughts as well and furthermore, to me it wouldn't have been realistic to break through a psychological trauma that strong in a snap as that healing would be more gradual over time and certainly would still not be in a state to fight in a life or death battle. So imo being able to recover from something that was physically incapacitating via a removal of said function make more sense as to how not only feel liberated, it showcases the power boost that's been latent in him all this time

    • @TK-cn5un
      @TK-cn5un 2 месяца назад +8

      With how Illumi's nen is strongly related to needles and establishing control, the needle feels like the strongest manifestation of Illumi's manipulation of Killua. The needle being a physical object didn't bother me as much; it felt intimately related to the psychological aspect.

    • @CR-hj2hk
      @CR-hj2hk 2 месяца назад +4

      @@Xynflame @UltimatePower01
      Exactly! the removal of the needle marks the end of his psychological journey, it doesn't come out of nowhere and Im guessed it episodes ago bc it makes sense I was actually very impressed that he deduced it so early on (even though when you think about it it makes perfect sense that there's no other explanation to Killua's behavior when he has so much reasons to not run away) : he wasn't able to break through before bc his resolve wasn't as strong and he wasn't so cornered too ...
      The choice of Rammot as his opponent is very purposeful bc no other ant would know about Gon being his buddy and being around, so Rammot's threat can only work bc it's him and Killua knows that there's 0 chance Gon could survive if he doesn't fight here and now so he fought extra hard and the pain helped him to understand that there was a physical element to his struggle and he was then able to locate the needle and extract it

    • @b_delta9725

      apart from what others have said, i think 99% of fans ignore the subtle but super relevant irony of the needle [SPOILERS]
      the character arcs of gon and killua currently are about their weakness, gon feels weak because he couldn't protect kite, and killua feels weak because he think he can't protect gon in these situations, and so removing the needle is, in theory, the solution for all his problems
      but from this point on, if you think about it, the arc killua goes through is the opposite of what you'd believe watching this scene at first, and it's the point: when they eventually see pitou again, gon has sank very deep and he rejects killua's help, basically his friend's whole life purpose is brushed aside by gon, he apologizes later but that moment spoke a lot about gon as a person but also, about killua's lack of self love
      because as beautiful as their relationship has been, is it worth it for killua to do all this for another person? does gon even want to be helped when he doesn't mind dying fighting pitou on his own? it's a lot more impactful when you realize that, despite killua saying gon is his first friend, actually alluka was killua's first friend ever... but the NEEDLE made him forget alluka was his friend, literally the same one
      its as if the needle is now being presented to us, but it's not real, this isn't the purpose it was written for. killua believes his purpose is to save gon, but at the end of the show, he essentially replaces him with alluka in his current life, and that's how togashi ties killua's development in this arc, to his selfless mentality, and the family that made him that way

    I liked the inclusion of the needle. We've seen Killua's mental progress and at this point there just had to be something even more to his conditioning. I agree that it doesn't cheapen the struggle. It's like a switch at the end of a long hallway, Killua still had to walk the distance to get there, and we've gotten to see that part play out over a long stretch of episodes.
    Strong agree about the pacing of the episode. The cuts away from Killua's fight were quite jarring especially because of how big this moment is for him. Although I absolutely loved the end of the fight. If at this point Killua had still struggled with Rammot, I feel he would have been way too unprepared for their task of getting back to the NGL. We've gotten to see Gon get stronger, it was a long time coming for Killua to get a solid power up.

    It was never clear to me why some people had a problem with Illumi putting a needle in Killua's brain, as if it detracted from the story. But I watched the '99 version of the anime, where Gitarakuru's revelation in the Hunter Test as Illumi had much more presence. Something about the atmosphere and direction of that episode made you perceive Illumi as this massive evil, almost demonic force, that ever so completely crushed Killua's spirit. When Illumi grabbed his head, you KNEW he had done something to Killua right there. Later, when Nen was revealed, it all made sense, the Association's examiners were well aware of Illumi's nen, but for obvious reasons couldn't/wouldn't take proper action to protect Killua.
