For a time, I was taking 3,000-5,000 vit D in the evening after supper but found myself repeatedly waking up around 2 am, unable to immediately fall back asleep. Eventually, I connected the two and changed to taking vit D after noon-hour breakfast. Immediately, my sleep improved. Lesson learned: DON'T take vit D in the evening!
thanks i 'll take it at noon hr.
Interesting. I take 5000 IU a day after breakfast (around seven am) but I still wake up at any-time between midnight and three am most nights and don't get back to sleep until the next night. But I'm retired so being awake half the night is not a big problem for me.
@@dogphlap6749 You wake of because of something in your psyche called inner critic. (Google it, Sidra and Hal Stone were the first psychoanalists to name it)
@@dogphlap6749 The recommended upper limit is 4000 IU. Go see a doctor to check your levels.
@@ETBrooD I had them checked some months ago. My doctor was alarmed. I was not. There is known kidney damage associated with very high levels of vitamin D, very high being 600,000 IU daily, I'm taking less than 1% of that. I can't get my head around how that much was administered. Where I live the recommended upper limit is 1000 IU so I'm even further in excess of that than the 4000 IU you suggest. Time will tell just how dangerous taking 5000 IU daily will prove to be in my case so if nothing else I'll help to establish just what the safe maximum dose might be. Thank you for your concern.

Thank you for this. I’ve always taken vitamin D in the morning with breakfast, because our bodies are designed to get vitamin D from the sun. Now you’ve confirmed my intuition.
Never thought of that! Excellent thinking.
That's pretty smart.
Remember to add Vit K. Vit D helps with absorbing Calcium, but K tells where to to deposit it. W/o Vit K, Calcium may be deposited in the soft tissues instead of bone & cause hardening of the soft tissue.

This is absolutely 100% true. I found out the hard way several years ago when I started taking Vit D in the evening. Many sources stated it was fine but it totally disrupted my sleep. After further research, I discovered it was best early morning similar to when the sun comes up. Makes sense!
Dr Mandel now I do understand why I only sleep for short periods at night I take my vit d with all other medication at night I sleep for an hour then I am wide awake
I was taking vertigo medicine in the morning afternoon evening which caused sleep disturbances. So I avoided taking in evening which restored sleep.
I take all my supplements at night before bed and find myself waking up in the middle of the night often. It’s so annoying. I’m so glad I came across this video and will adjust when I take the vitamin D. Hope it helps!
Thanks a lot Dr Mandell for saying you take 5,000 IU of /Vitamin daily and that it is best to take it early in the day with a meal that has healthy fat like avocados, or healthy fish or nuts to absorb the Vitamin D. I did read 10 years ago about a team of specialists who studies Vitamin D and they took 4,000 IU daily.
Dr. Mandell, congratulations on your award. You are indeed a deserving person and I pray that God will continue to bless you with good health to continue your work

I don't think your issue was vitamin D. Anyone who lacks sleep is mostly due to stress and/or lack of magnesium in your diet. Answer: Take Vitamin D with a fatty meal in the morning so it won't affect melatonin production and interfere with sleep. Vitamin D is fat soluble. Take D3 2000 IU per day
I usually take it before my fatty meal. Do you recommend it before or after meal? If I take it before meals will it affect my vitimian d intake
@@mrhassanali3297 - Always take Vit-D with a meal (right after) in the AM. If you don't, it won't be properly absorbed. Vit-D taken on an empty stomach will have NO affect on reaching your goal of having the proper amount of Vit-D in your system. I take 10,000 IU's a day at least 5 times a week. So that's 50,000 IU's per week. But you must take Vit-K2 with it, along with magnesium. I also take MSM (Sulfur) with it as well. Took me 8 months of doing it this way to achieve my goal of having the proper amount of Vit-D in my system. And not having the proper amount of Vit-D in my system (body) is more than likely what caused me to catch that dreaded Covid-19 to begin with.

You need to add Vit K and magnesium with your D. All three work together.
Hello,
How are things now? Have you seen a significant improvement?
Very good advice. Thank you. I try to keep my 25(OH)D level between 100 and 130 ng/ml. I started this 11 years ago when I was 64 years old. I am 6' 3" and weigh 240 lbs so I need to take more D3 than someone who weighs less, like 150 lbs. I could list about a dozen nagging health problems that just disappeared after I got my D level up, things like fever blisters, ringing in my ears, frequent illness, and low back pain, to name a few. At 75 years old, I am now healthier, physically stronger and mentally sharper than I was when I was 50 years old. I take K2 and magnesium with my higher daily dose of the D3. I think that the recommended daily dose is too low by at least a factor of 10 for people my size and age.
What dose do you take of d3, k2 and magnesium?
I was taking them at night and my doctor told me to have them with the highest fatty meal, which I now am. Glad to see this video…..
I've been taking 5000 IU every morning for several years since my Vitamin D level was below the recommended range. Now my blood work shows that my level is right in the middle.
I took 5k IU and my levels were in the middle, I changed to 10k and they went near the upper limit for healthy levels, up from single digits which my body is only capable of producing naturally. I have been on 10k during the entire pandemic, and will be switching back to 5k daily once warm weather arrives this year.
You’re so right. My physician now checks my Vitamin with my annual labs. I’ve taken 5000iu daily for the past two years at his recommendation following severe insufficiency results. My levels are now midrange level.
Thank you Dr. Mandell. I love your calming but straightforward and informative approach. You are a godsend 🙏
Doctor! I always had digestive problems on and off. Until I started half a teaspoon of Apple cider Vinegar in a glass of water. I few months later I could eat spaghetti or spicy foods no issues. But come, February My digestive or stomach became a nightmare. 4 times rushed to ER, couldn't breath, abdomen pain. They ruled it as GERD but I knew it wasn't. Here I am 2 1/2 months of seeing specialist and no one can seem to find the cause of my issue but I think I narrowed it down to "Inflammation" and from my last blood test, my Vitamin D levels and sodium were critically low! But no one said anything about it! I increased both and I am feeling a little better. Been watching your videos and learning a lot! Thank You! So much! you have restored my faith in Doctors! 🙂
I've recently been diagnosed with lupus. I'm super light sensitive. Combined with it being winter here in n Illinois, I'm 99.99% sure I was deficient in d. I've been doing better keeping up on my vitamins this week and especially my d3 and there's a big difference in how I'm feeling.
What were your most first symptoms before you were diagnosed that led you to think it was a vitamin D deficiency ?
Many people are deficient in vitamin D. The best way to find out if you are is to have your primary care doctor include vitamin d level in your blood work ups. ( cholesterol levels, glucose, etc.) mine does. You have to be careful because it’s a fat soluble vitamin so you can definitely take too much and build up a toxic level. If you have lupus, you should avoid immune boosting supplements such as echinacea, garlic, alfalfa, and zinc. These could actually trigger a flare. Fish oil is also really good for overall health and prevention of blood clots.Always wear sunscreen and sun protective clothing, even in cloudy or winter weather, the UV rays still get through. And if you also have Raynaud’s syndrome ( as many people who have lupus do) I have found that high quality gingko biloba extract helps peripheral circulation so your fingers and toes don’t turn purple and white and you don’t find yourself shopping for electric hand warmers. Good luck, I hope your disease stays mild or at least moderate. 30 years ago when I was first diagnosed after miscarrying 5 pregnancies, I was told that I had at most 10 years to live. I was 26.
Lupus and MS patients tend to have Vit D deficiency from what I understand. And yeah it can make a noticeable difference if you've been low for a long period of time.
My young neice has Lupus too. Please check out dr.Brooke Goldner, She herself “ had” Lupus ….and Shares her easy protocols 🎯 Very loving and caring woman ❤️💕

I take 2,000 IU of Vitamin D3, daily, but I just learned that I am taking it at the wrong time -at bedtime. I will change that to breakfast time and see if it makes a difference. Thank you, Dr. Mandell.
Because the daily upper limit of D was established at 4000 IUs I was scared to take more, but I couldn't get my levels much above 40, which is not optimal. Recently I learned that lower d levels can negatively impact sleep, and since that's an ongoing issue for me, I decided to up my dose. I'm now taking a combined total of close to 8000 iu of d3. I intend to lower it to 4000 or 5000 once my levels go up. This video has reinforced that I'm doing the right thing. By the way, I take 300 mcg of k2 (MK7) plus 400 mg of magnesium. These are crucial when taking d3, particularly at high levels so that the D directs calcium to the bones rather than the heart. Dr. Mandell discusses this in another video.
I just got my results and mine is at 10... I am now taking 5000 IU a day ..Until next blood test.. that is why I am watching this ..I CANNOT SLEEP !!! hopefully this helps
Thank you for posting this information. Very helpful!
Who do you believe "established the upper limit of D"? Not so! Each person is individual, and your 25(OH)D or hydroxy vitamin D test level should dictate your dosing. You want your result to be in the upper quintile, 75-95, to ensure your immune system is working at its Optimum best-- you don't want it to be lazy! We need magnesium to activate D3, so take any kind of mag except oxide to accomplish this. Low calcium levels can also have a negative effect, but no need to be concerned unless you are dairy free.
Low or deficient D3 and magnesium are the REAL pandemics affecting well over half the population! Proper nutrient levels fight disease properly! Nutrition is not optional! It's precisely what runs our bodies!
Their making me take 50,000 units once a week for 3months I haven’t took them because im scared
I am 40, and started back problems. If I stand for more than 2 hrs, I was looking for place to sit until I started 5k IUs of D3... This video has helped me to understand when to take D3... Thanks doctor
Thank you Doc 💚 I didn’t know the time of day made a difference.
The only thing I would add is if you’re going take high doses of vitD get a doctor to check your levels regularly, as some people absorb it much better than others. I nearly ended up with vit D toxicity as my levels hit 151 😮
Please share how much were you taking daily? Thanks

Great video, many thanks Doc! I've been having vit. D deficit for years now and after my own research and testing I have to say Doc's Mandell advice is the best. Do blood tests to see where you're at and start taking vit. D and redo the test after a few months and repeat until you found the right amount for you. There are too many factors to just go blindly with the recommended dose. I'm at 2000 IU daily now and barely got it near the minimum value.
Between 60 to 80 ng/ml is an ideal level for higher immunity. Can do short term supplementation of 10k iu daily for 1 month to increase levels. I am an ND.
Thank you doc, you deserve all the best for your efforts to inform us all, for free. Huge respect for you!
I am on vit D3, 2,000 units by prescription. I was not sure when to take it, now I will take as one of my morning ills. Thank you. My doctors did not tell me when to take, so I had been taking it at night. I thought that since I was taking the dog out into the sun for about 45 minutes each day, I would take it at night. Starting tomorrow I will take mornings.
I always knew that shift work was killing me. I need more sunlight in my life
Same mate 👍
I will switch time of day as I have trouble sleeping!
This made me cry
Thank you so much 💖
I have suffered from wake sleep cycle since I started taking vit D3 in the evening and I have lost so much sleep since I have done this approximately 4 weeks ago!
I can't tell you how relieved I am to watch your videos
You're such a great and kind man 😙

I had injured my right shoulder last summer when our dog pulled and I landed on the ground. Went for 6 weeks Rehab, heat and cold therapy and did not help much. However upon learning that Vit D acts like anti- inflammatory, I started last Dec. 2022 increasing my dose of Vit D to 10,000IU and lo & behold, my pain and inflammation is gone. I started going back to exercises, and dance classes.
Thank you ! Dr. Mandell. I always take my Vit D every morning.
I have MS and my neurologist usually has my vitamin d levels checked and I’ve had to take rx strength a few times. I also have low platelets but haven’t had that checked out yet. Your video reminded me I need to have my levels checked again because I have most of the symptoms listed. Good to know that it’s best to take it in the morning.
You want to take Vit D3, not prescription Vit D2, which is inferior to D3
@@JasonCarney. You're forgetting that the neurologist does not make any money on vitamin D3 only the vitamin D2 prescription (He gets spiffs and kickbacks from big pharma) which is pretty much useless he has a patient coming back for more the 1st thing his neurologist learned in medical school was a Patient cured is a customer lost
I also have MS...Microsoft
Taking K2(mk7) is a must when taking Vitamin D
I have been a tree trimmer for the past 15 years and I was always confused when I went to the doctor and he would tell me I was Vitamin D deficient even though I spend all day in the sun, but knowing what I know now it seems taking a supplement is crucial to get your levels up and in the green zone, so even though I still am in the sun all day I still take 6,000 IU a day in vitamin D. I researched Vitamin D and when you learn the importance of it you will never let yourself get deficient again, Thanks Dr. Mandell
Do you take cholesterol lowering medication. If think twice...
Well timeshel Leo store my thunder. Yes, it is cholesterol in the skin that converts sunlight to Vitamin D. Another reason not to take statins...as if Alzheimer's wasn't enough.
Thanks Doctor God bless you You deserved a great comment from the people who always in tune with you God used you to help million of people. And me too I will say always Thank you to you
I'm 55 years old closing in on 56. Never had a flu shot in my life and obviously I'm still here. Haven't gotten the COVID vaccine either; not yet. I take a bunch of vitamins everyday with my protein shake each morning. Vitamin D3 and Zinc are key! Plus the other needed vitamins and minerals are important too.
What brand of zinc do you take?
@@athomewithmelissa Currently I take the CVS generic brand in 50mg tabs. I also take a calcium tablet with added vitamin K and D3.
What all vitamins do you take pl cud u share! Thank You 🙏
Please don't take the vaxx. But do add k2 to the list, very important
PLEASE TAKE THAT COVID VACCINE

I like it when the doc says “make it a great day”, because only you can do this. Even if circumstances are not great, your outlook can be. I hate “hope you have a great day”. So disempowering. Like it is not within your power to change your outlook.
I live out side of Seattle, rain and cloud capital of the world. For years I felt sluggish and tiered all of the time except for when I went to a sunny climate for more than a week and there I felt alive and went non stop. I am now sixty four and last year a doctor finally check my vitamin D levels and I was Low. I started taking D3 and am a new person. I can't believe I wasted all those years feeling miserable when it was such an easy fix. Many many doctor visits. I can't emphasis this enough. Thank you.
I was always feeling tired in the past and didn't know about vitamin D3 how important it is .
Only When saw some videos on DR Berg channel I began taking it with 40,000 IU's with 400 mcg of K2 a day for more than a year and since then I felt much much better !!
Didn't know that before !!
For now I take 20,000 IU's a day with 200's mcg a day and will never give up that anymore 😊😊.
Thank you doc for awakening people 🙏🙏🙏🙏🌹🌹🌹 .
How's your level now. I thought that 10,000 above per day will lead to toxicity. Maybe I'm wrong. Btw I'm vit d deficient. Its been 2 month now on 10,000 Iu but the progress is too slow.
@@danialalwalid3297 gosh that’s a lot for a daily dose . Do you know if your levels improved since your last comment ??
Thank you so much to make this clear: 800 I.U ARE NOT ENOUGH. Since 2015 is known by the R.K.I. that they made a mistake by writing down the researches. It is not needed 800 but 8000 I.U per day!!! But not even during a pandemic they come out with this lifesaving news! So thanks, that you do!!!!
I'm a 55 yo female, and after listening to this video I realised having most the symptoms you mentioned. Since vitamin D3 is so important for our well-being, why our doctors mentioned very little about the benefits of taking them? I ordered vitamin D3 immediately. Thank you Dr Mandell.
They don't mention it because it's a cheap and easy fix i.e. not profitable for big pharma.
Your Dr. Works for big pharma, and as such, has to learn their curriculum in med school, which has very little time spent on nutrition. They only get like, one class on it. Big pharma wants us sick, so they keep making as much money on us as possible.
Big pharma and big Ag are owned by the same mutual funds and same people who are majority shareholders in them (the caball/Illuminati/world central bankers/globalists - whatever you want to cal them, but they are the Rothschilds, Rockefellers, etc) and therefore, work hand in hand to make and keep us sick so they can make as much money as possible. Aleays remember that
I take 10,000 IU of D3 and I take K2 Magnesium L-Threonate thank you the information you provided, I had taken D3 at night but will take it in the morning as suggested, makes so much sense..
Years ago I was dangerously deficient in vitamin D3. The doctor told me to take 2000 I.U., but I actually took 500 I.U.. I just started taking magnesium and vitamin D3 again and I’m still taking the 5000 units. I’ve been having a lot headaches and other health issues Dr. Mandell has mentioned in a couple of videos where he talks about low vitamin D3 and magnesium, and I’m glad I watched them because he has encouraged me to start taking these two things again.
Thank you so much our dear Doc. Long life, super health 💪, much more energy.
Listening to your videos improve my health and I am so great full for all you do Dr. Mandell❣️❣️
Thank you Dr Mandell for the comprehensive teaching . May 2021 be healthy and blessed Year in Jesus mighty name 🙏 love from Tanzania 🙋
They assassinated your president?
You can have your Vitamin D levels tested through your doctor to see if you have a deficiency. I did that and I did have a deficiency and twice I have had to have a prescription to correct the problem. Then I started taking it on a daily basis. I have been taking 10,000IUs of vitamin D3, gel caps, for over 5 years. A few months ago I had my new doctor recheck my Vitamin D levels in my blood and I am now at 90%. I dropped what I am taking to 5,000IUs. I will have her test it again in 6 months to see if it is maintaining. If not I will raise it back up to 10,000IUs. I recommend that people have their doctors run a blood test and to include the test to check their Vitamin D levels and if they are deficient it is an easy to fix. Thank you for your videos. I always take it before my first meal. Now I will start taking it with my first meal. :)
I have an omelette every morning for breakfast. I saute them lightly in coconut oil with mushrooms. I take my vitamin d 3 and k2...with my breakfast.
I have had people tell me my D3 and K2 should be taken at dinner time with my evening meal.
Looks like I am right.
Thank you for setting me straight on this.
I take all my vitamins about five in the morning with my coffee, then I have my breakfast, which always consist of three eggs.
Oooooo 5am
I have lymphoma, to assist with avoiding severe illness from COVID the UK healthcare system has sent me a supply of this vitamin. Much appreciated.
@Blue Skies .....So you are saying Vit D is bad?
Perhaps they were given high doses. Everything in high doses is bad for you. I suppose you can't live with or without vit D. High doses can cause kidney stones in susceptible people. Everything in moderation is the key thing.
I just went online. The animals were poisoned with Vit D3 causing metastatic calcification, like you said.. But because the doses were quite high. And some people had that too but because they suffered from hyperparathyroidism, which my mum had, which means you are not allowed to take vit D. There is always a reason. Had my mum taken vit D years ago, her hyperparathyroidism would have been prevented as well as her diabetes and cancer perhaps. . Nuns are the most that get this hyperparathyroidism because of lack of vit D or sun exposure.
I am low on Vit D even though I take a supplement. It can cause all diseases without it. Even fibroids in women they found, which I have many now, and chronic uti infection. Which all of a sudden I have also.
@Blue Skies I will do some researching. I did read though that you need vit D to help absorb calcium in the bones. All I know is my mum's hyperparathyroidism waa caused by lack of vit D. I always thought that we need all vitamins abd minerals, but low standard dosage. Not a lot. But a little of everything. We shouldn't lack anything. I only take 25 u. And yet my level is still low. But I am not taking more than that.
What do you think about staying in the sun for 15 mins? We shouldn't do that then, because it increases vit D?
@Blue Skies She had hyperparathyroidism...from the parathyroid glands. She had surgery for that eventually. My mother passed away 6 years ago from bowel c. But thank you for wanting to help. It's very nice of you 😊 x
Hey doc tnx again for another great video
I was taking 3000 d a day
Experienced itchy and smelly scalp, flaky skin , foggy Brain.vomiting
I went for blood test and OMG my level was almost 300 which is very dangers
I stopped taking vitamin d for 4 months n thank god it dropped to 96
Level
I no longer have those nasty feeling
I’ll start again like 1000 mg a day
Just wanted to share my experience
OMG 300?? You and I are complete opposites. I was dangerously deficient a few years back, my level was just 7...I was having heart palpitations, I could barely walk, my legs felt like lead, I was so fatigued. Now I take 10,000 daily and my levels are in normal range but on the low end of normal...in the 40s, even with taking that large amount every day.
I had a blood test last week, I have very low level of 3. I have purchased tablets, 10,000 IU, I start tomorrow, 3 or 4 in the morning and 2 later in the day. I have been feeling fatigued and sore joints, the heavy legs. I’m very happy I have found out the reason. Had a blood test 3 years ago and Vitamin D was bordering on low, I thought more time outside in the sun would resolve that. I knew something wasn’t right, so happy I had another blood test.
@@CarolineRingersma EU medical authority recommends max 4,000 IU. The reason for an upper limit is that your kidneys has to synthesize the D3 stuff that take and make it to the right proteins. If your kidneys are overloaded they may collapse. Your afternoon tablets may just be an unnecessary load with little real effect. Do your own research.
@@Cptnbond my mom's diabetic and on insulin. I started her taking 1 capsule in the morning. She rarely gets sun and not many vitamin D rich foods. You think that's ok for her since you mentioned about kidneys.
@@paulalotte1146 Wow I was at a 13 and I had the same symptoms! I also was at an 8 for iron which is low. I began to feel so much better once I started taking vitamin d and iron pills.
I have been taking Vitamin D-3 for two years now with my breakfast. I began after getting blood test results back showing that I was low in Vitamin D and Potassium. The only thing I notice different is that I have not been told that I am low anymore. I enjoy your presentation.
I take 3000 IU daily.
