    Loving these adorable pumpkins. I've made a couple using half double crochet and back loop only which gives a nice textured look. The one you made using moss stitch is very pretty. Will do that one next. Great tutorial.....thanks x 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

      Thank you! I am working on.a video for the Star stitch Pumpkin. If you use Instagram, I have a short Rice Stitch demo and written instructions in a reel that you can find in my guides (newspaper icon above my grid). If not, there are many tutorials for it her on YT. Once you have a rectangle, the rest of the pumpkin process is the same! So fun!

    I just love your pumpkins!!! I am on the newer side to crocheting....could you tell me what is the stitch that you did for your doorstop pumpkin??? I just have to make one like that!!!! Thanks!!!!

    • @alpenglowbasin
      @alpenglowbasin  2 года назад

      That stitch is called Rice stitch or Seedling stitch - it is worked by creating a row of double crochets then working rows of alternating front post and back post double crochets! There is a short reel in my guides on Instagram where I demo and write out the instructions for the stitch! Otherwise, there are plenty of tutorials all over RUclips for it! I am loving my doorstop! ❤️

    Love it! Can I ask how many chains and rows you did? I loved your size and I think it's perfect for me

    • @alpenglowbasin
      @alpenglowbasin  2 года назад

      Oh wow! That is such a great question! I didn’t even write it down, but it looks like there were 24 rows of front loop Sc and 14 or 15 chains to start. You would start row 1 in the 2nd chain from the hook with one row of regular Sc and then work Sc in the front loops only for each row after that. My yarn was 4 wt (worsted) and my hook size was 5 mm! Hope that helps! Happy crocheting! ❤️

      I have a short demo for Rice stitch (aka: seedling stitch) in my Instagram guides. I know there are several here on RUclips also! Moss stitch (linen stitch) is the smaller white one. Star stitch (aka: 5-spike marguerite stitch) is the larger rust colored pumpkin. I hope to make some additional tutorials for some of these soon, but you can find some here on YT if you don’t want to wait for me ☺️❤️

    • @alpenglowbasin
      @alpenglowbasin  2 года назад

      Thank you so much Joan! I used a 5 mm Furls Streamline hook and 4 weight yarn! It was Yarn Bee Easygoing Yarn from Hobby Lobby in the color Frosting! It is a GORGEOUS cream color without all the yellow cast that many cream colored yarns have in them! I will definitely be getting more!

    Is there a formula for width vs length that works best. Like 2-3 x width for length?

    • @alpenglowbasin
      @alpenglowbasin  2 года назад

      Good question! There isn’t really a formula for the height of your pumpkin, but I would add 1-2” to each end (even more if you’re making a one that’s more than 5-6” in diameter) to the approximate desired height for the amount needed to cinch the top and bottom of the pumpkin. For the diameter you want, simply multiply the desired diameter by 3.14 (I.e. pi) to get the length of the rectangle you’ll need. For my little Moss/Woven st pumpkin, I made 40 chains and 18 rows with 4 wt yarn and a 5mm hook and got a pumpkin that’s 3.5” diameter by 3” high. For a taller velvet pumpkin in Rice Stitch, my rectangle was about 15.5”x10.5”. That made a 5” diameter and it’s about 6” tall.

      @@alpenglowbasin Thank you so much. That is a big help!

    • @alpenglowbasin
      @alpenglowbasin  2 года назад

      Hi Tammy! I had to really think through the height and length question as I graded my pattern for the Star St Pumpkin pattern and video I released yesterday. My thinking about the circumference formula was flawed in that it doesn’t account for how much crochet rows stretch! For my Spring Creek Star Stitch Pumpkin, I needed a length that is about 2 times the diameter. For the extra length needed for the height of the pumpkin, I found that I need to add about 70% of the diameter of the pumpkin to have enough to fold over the top and bottom. That might differ a bit with each stitch, but it’s probably a good starting point! Hope that helps!

    Does hook size matter?

    • @alpenglowbasin
      @alpenglowbasin  Год назад

      I use a 5.00 mm hook for the majority of projects where I am using a medium/4 wt. (aka : worsted) yarn, but if using a different weight, it is usually good to try out a hook close to the size recommended on the yarn label. 💕
