How to make Scottish Butteries (Aberdeen Butter Rolls, Rowies!)

    As a Canadian with mostly Scottish heritage, I have a ton of vintage recipes that made their way over and have been past down! Hopefully, this recipe still reflects how these little pastries are made today!
    As for the butterie croissants, they actually do taste different considering they are made in very similar ways.
    Butteries have a more hearty rustic texture from traditional French croissants. However, I love the fact that butteries can be made in well under half the time!
    Have you ever made or enjoyed butteries before?

    This should be done with lard, if you want the authentic ones.

      You are completely right! My grandmother's original recipe called for a half and half mixture of butter and lard. But to make this recipe more accessible to modern home cooks, I thought to go with butter.

      @@Flourandfiligree I live in Aberdeen and am off to try you recipy right now, but i will be using 1/2 and 1/2 with lard only because it adds a better taste i think. Thanks for your recipy that i will add to the others i have for butteries.
