    YOU are BAD ASS! You do what's needed to take care of the problem. Thank you for all the ideas & inspiration!! I watch your channel because I'm a prepper, but happened upon this video because I have a serious pigeon problem. Never having lived in a city before, I was shocked by the number of rats here. Like you, I've had to also use a multi-faceted approach. I was already volunteering with a local cat rescue organization because thousands of these poor animals are thrown away like garbage here every year, so I've done lots of TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) & adoptions for tame cats, so I already had a few traps. I successfully used these on the gigantic city rats & keep a full-time, small managed colony of backyard cats to help with the rats. Now I'm ready to tackle the pigeons! Thanks!!!

    What did you do with them after catching?

  • @dendkmac
    @dendkmac 3 года назад +3

    I had a pigeon issue mainly because I feed natural birds not flying rats. My solution was two fold, buy a feeder that they could not get into, second locate where they were roosting which was under my rooftop A/C. the feeder is called the squirell buster and I used something called hot foot caulk, you can search and found both online.....put the hot foot gel down where they steped it is not be really hot but sticky. Within 4 days they were gone for good...also because they could not get the food from the feeder any more...when they landed there weight closed the feeding hatch, smaller birds are not affected

      @@AlaskaGranny It would be except my neighbors ARE the problem. He is the one that built a Pigeon roost two years ago in his yard and now he has about 15 of the nasty things. They fly free and land in my yard all the time. They have become bolder and now I am needing to try different things to keep them out of yard. I am disabled and have a helper dog and a Terrier and that is where they go out and play. I spent money to fence in my yard to keep his dogs out because he lets his dogs run loose and they crap in my yard.
      They still crap in my side yard, I did not fence off that area. But his pigeons are coming into my fenced area where my dogs play. This morning I hung out one of my old windbreakers on a hanger stuck in a pole. We shall see if that works.
      I did have a couple of bags tied to the fence but that only works when the wind is blowing. :( My neighbor is the biggest menace. Ron Williams in South Branch, MI ...anyone know him? He is not a nice man. There is not talking to him either.
      Oh and my 94 yr old mom lives with me and she likes to watch the song birds eating at the bird feeder outside our picture window, but these nasty pigeons have ruined that too!

    Here are a few methods in no particular order : get a hawk / falcon or small bird of prey that will scare them all away, or shoot a .22 air rifle at them eventually they get the message ( in UK its legal to kill them as they classed as vermin) put Pigeon spikes on roof ariel gutters etc and wherever they hang out, fix a weatherproof outdoor speaker onto roof area ( or anywhere they hang out ) and play loud noises / bangs randomly - they don't like sudden bangs.

    Go Granny Go! I'm going through what you once were, but can't get on a ladder. They wake me up every morning by a flock landing on my ridgeline, above my bedroom. My only weapon so far has been rocks which I throw at them. At least now when they see me coming they fly away. Someone mentioned moth balls so I might throw a handful up on the roof and see what that does. So yesterday, I scared them away and gathered all their sticks, put in a small box with mosquito repellant paper and burned it. I kept the box there. It seems to have scared them off and they haven't returned yet. I am not very proud of what I did, in fact feel so sad to burn their sticks but had to keep them away. I still dont know if it will work in the days to come, but let's see or else I will just put the net.

      Ok to update for the 2nd day: No signs of pigeons anywhere near my balcony. So happy that it worked. I am just not sure whether just the burning of their sticks or burning of sticks with repellent paper or just the repellent paper was the reason. If it fails to keep them away for long, probably another idea I can think of just stick the repellent paper at different places in my balcony - may be they hate the smell of it or something.

      Hilarious, you say nothing will convince me, and then you try to convince me...
      I've only ever heard of certain materials, like limestone, being corroded by pigeon feaces, so perhaps your neighbor should build with the standard materials like everybody else, because here in the UK we have pigeons everywhere and I have only ever heard of this issue once in my life, and it was regarding a historical site.
      As for your rainwater collection problem, why don't you take some initiative and foolproof it?
      I don't know why you are bringing up other bird species damaging your property, instead the blame would be better placed on the builder.
      I find it odd that you find pigeons to be culprit of all these issues; do you not think other birds produce waste? Are you going to go after every single species which happens to land on/fly over your property?
      The "rats with wings" comment is the cherry atop this absurd cake.
      Furthermore, according to the out of Africa theory, humans aren't native to America, and they certainly do more damage to the environment than any single species of bird, not to mention that I personally consider most humans to be selfish, arrogant, deceitful "rats on two feet" but I assume you would be upset if I trapped and killed you... but of course, you and your perfect little roof are more important for some arbitrary reason.
      The truth is, you use these animals as a means to an end, because instead of actually being productive, or using your brain to come up with an equitable solution for both parties, or even considering uncomfortable issues beyond your property line, you target your frustrations and need for validation at the 'big bad "rats with wings"' because they are easy to kill, aren't they? And you're doing such a service to the world every time you kill one, aren't you?
      Your poor excuses for pointlessly killing these animals fail to mask your laziness and your arrogance.
      In short, killing these animals is just a way for people like yourself to get a quick dopamine hit, and you make them the object of your malice because it is a socially acceptable way for you to feel like a superior being.

      Cats are a great deterrent. Maybe a stuffed toy cat on the roof? Some stuffed toys look like the real thing.

    • @sjstaggs
      @sjstaggs 6 лет назад +1

      Rocketninja200 give the cat a route to the roof. When the neighborhood cats were all young they would climb a tree next to my house to get on my roof. Never a pigeon in sight. Now that the cats are old and the ferile cats have been picked up by the city, I have to pressure wash mountains of pigeon poop from my roof monthly and my patio weekly.

      Walmart I returned mine..After a day the pigeons realize it's not a real owl and just ignore it. Some in our town was raising pigeons and let them go and they have adopted our property because my hubby feeds wild birds.Pigeons are flying rats. If I knew a way to poison all of them without poisoning the other wildlife I would kill them all. They crap all over my new roof

    Had a major issue with pigeons as a kid. My dad and I had a competition of who could bag the most with the pellet gun. One year we planted our christmas tree and noticed that when it got taller, the pigeons all left. Never had a pigeon problem as long as the tall pine tree was there. I guess they don't like pine trees. Sadly, both options won't work at the new house. We do have an occasional falcon pay a visit and there is no pigeon, dove or grackel to be seen when the falcon is up there. Wish it would stay.

    Okay i hate pigeons too, but the rat trap @AlaskaGranny .. too far, here in Greece you would get heavilly fined for doing such a thing, not mentioning how inhuman and painful it would be for the bird. Not to be a snowflake but they are also living creatures, able to feel pain and all.

      @@DSoraK I don't understand the point of "nature doesn't care", interfering with it has sequences some minor some major, if you go and kill all the pigeons out there something else will rise and something will fall (then u end up with more problems than the ones u started with) maybe not having direct impact to you, but are you really that selfish? I understand you might not want them around you, I dont either, i have problems with them in my neighborhood too, but killing them is not the way bud plus its a hell of a work to go through. Killing stuff to fix your problems is never the way, you can use repelants which are not harmful to anything and fix your problems. What problem are you facing exactly?

      Xerai get a metal rod, make a bunch of little nooses and attach them to the rod, attach the rod to somthing so it can't move, sprinkle seed all over it and after a while you will catch birds, release the birds you like, take the pigeons somewhere far away
