    This tip works! Thanks for this video! I live in a Canadian city with lots of pigeons and over a month into trying this technique, I've gone from pigeons living on my balcony & my next door neighbour's balcony (very filthy...a perfect habitat for pigeons) to pigeons steering clear. They try to land once or twice a week, usually leaving quickly on their own. The mess is gone and I didn't have to resort to expensive, ugly spikes.

    My neighbors laughed when they saw me putting up the lines, I actually heard someone holler out, "Its not gonna work." Well they were wrong, your solution is working so well that many of my neighbors are stopping to stare, they can't believe the way the pigeons suddenly change direction when coming in for a landing on my terrace.
    I live in an apartment building and had no poles to attach the fishing line to so I purchased the Gorilla Tape to tape it to the cement wall and then to the terrace railing. My only concern is how long the tape will hold. Other than that, thank God, NO MORE PIGEON POOP!!!
    Thank you so much for this solution!

    I know of a similar method, where farmers just keep a twisted reflective ribbon on the perimeter of their farms to keep birds away. Though unsightly, I was thinking of doing the same to my balcony, till I came across your video. Ingenious.

    Thank you so much for your video and advice. This has saved my life! My balcony is clean from all their nasty droppings and most importantly my sleep is not interrupted in the morning! For some reason they are scared to land on the balcony railing and just land elsewhere. I sure don't miss them. Thanks!

    Excellent idea Tony! And similar to mine. I tied bits of aluminium cooking foil at intervals, which is rather more visible, less discreet than your fishing line ends. And it works, I get no pigeons on my window ledges now.

    THIS WORKS. I have a 2nd-floor balcony and had tried other things, but this, fishing line with loops of fishing line hanging down, some in loops and some just knotted and hanging loose, freaked the bird and after a few attempts to walk next to the line, he LEFT. I didn't hang any ribbon or anything on it where he could see it, and I'm leaving it for a few days to make sure he doesn't come back.

    This worked really well until apartment owners did not want ANYTHING attached to railings so had to take them down. A year later the pigeon population has tripled and some have nested on the roof right above my bedroom. At 4:00 in the morning the noise starts and it off and on all day. They land on the railings again. Any suggestions for some type of lotion to spread on railing that does not attract ants.

    I put about 1 foot between them for that is about the center of there wings span, and the cross trying makes them more confused for the bird can not figure out what it is in flight and will not land.

  • @tonylogon
    @tonylogon  12 лет назад +1

    No it has to be clear or transparent, if you are taking about light "blue' then yes it is transparent. It is important to have the pigeon confused and it has to be so it can not figure out what it is, so it will not land.

    Tony, I can't thank you enough for this video. I tried all of the other options for getting a very messy pigeon from visiting my apartment patio. I tried scaring him, I shot him with a super soaker water gun (which was particularly satisfying for me), and most recently I tried to deter any visits by scattering some strong-smelling garlic powder, which had no effect on the bird. But I haven't seen that bird since the fishing line went up. Thanks again!

    Plastic owls / whirligigs/ spikes are only temporary remedies as the pigeons become accustomed to these things and will eventually ignore the plastic owl and the whirligigs and fly over the railing spikes to land on the balcony floor.
    The sure way is to enclose the balcony with a nylon net that prevents birds squirrels and other pests from making a mess on your balcony.
    Someone feeding the wild life is another problem and hard to catch them at it.

    • @tonylogon

      Yes it will work but make sure it is tied off at the ends and it is away from any branch 3 to 5 inches. The line must move freely and have its cross lines. Do not tie the to leaves for they will fall off soon or to branches that will move in the wind and pull the line apart...... Good like and keep us posted...:)

    "Pigeons, Get Rid Of Them" "How to". "RUclips First" !!
    Ever have the problems of Pigeons on your balcony or windows. I came up with a method that has been test by me and it works. The Pigeon when it is landing, won't land unless it has a clear open area, for when it sees something that he can not figure out, the bird will not land, thus he keeps away......Not reporting anymore, all the Pigeons are not landing anymore on my Balcony, but I still see them all around, everywhere landing on others balcony.
    I see all the others throwing water and banging a broom on the railings to scare them. I have to post something to help them, at least to watch my video.... :)
    It's been now over two years and no Birds, put I found out that after time the line in the sun and winter broke off. So I came home one day and saw the birds on my balcony and then I discovered the line down. So you have to check it at least once and awhile. Once I replaced the line with a new one, all the birds disappeared again

    • @knappylogic
      @knappylogic 8 лет назад

      +tonylogon i'm a bit confused. in the video you have a few vertical lines but then at one point you show a horizontal line. so you need both? vertical lines and one horizontal line a half foot above the landing surface?

    • @tonylogon
      @tonylogon  8 лет назад

      +knappylogic That depends on your area or balcony and where the birds land or come through, Everyone has things different. You have to block their flight path and landing.

    Please help, this is driving my family round the bend theres like 10 in my garden 24/7 and if we go out there they dont even fly off and when they do they camp on the rood and just come back and eat the food from the small birds

      +Alyssa Carter Sounds familiar...you don't want to scare away the songbirds but there are no devices that are 'selective" enough to let the songbirds in but keep the pigeons out, except one, you. Get yourself a decent pellet rifle, practice, watch a few you tube videos about how to shoot them, and just get to it. Those winged vermin wreak havoc on gardens, other birds, window and balcony sills, not to mention the diseases they carry. Be vigilant, be a good neighbor, and keep your hard work safe from pests.

      That's fine but remember that the fishing line has to be transparent, not blue line nor solid. Good luck...:)

      Dump water on them. Use a pot, or bucket of water. If you have a garden hose, spary them.
      The only other way to get rid of, "Rats with Wings" is to enclose a porch, or balcony with netting, floor to ceiling. If you use netting, MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO GAPS IN THE NETTING. Pigeons are resourceful.
