  • This was at the public Library in Glenview Illinois.And a lady name Sharon,that works for a company called GLENKIRK(847-272-5111)was having a group there,told me to delete my footage,and then she called the police on me.

    WOW! Where do I begin?Glenview Public library staff-WAY TO GO!!! you are absolutely professional, beautiful, kind, and caring individuals! No non sense or confrontation, just simply and calmly helped to instruct this TROUBLESOME KAREN-on the policy and law and yet she still refused to listen!     The library staff is exceptional. It's impressive how even one challenging individual can't dampen the positive spirit of these ladies. It's interesting to note that it's often the employees from third-party contracted companies who may not be well-versed in the rules or etiquette of working in a public space like a library.

    She cares so much about the group’s privacy that she chose a room with huge glass windows in a public building typically full of people all day and did not have the where with all to at least slide the doors closed.

She really needs to step back and think about what she's doing especially with telling people their personal business.

      In fairness, she may not have had a choice in the room. She seemed to indicate that this was a routine thing that they did at the library and that space may have been assigned to them by the library staff or the items in that room could be tailored more toward their disabilities.

      What baffles me: First she is rude and demanding. Later on, when she finds out there is no one here to help her (not even the law) she starts with arguing courtesy.     The fact that the library staff said they have been trained on how to deal with public photography shows that first amendment auditors are actually starting to have a real, albeit slow, impact on society. I am thankful for their work. Even cops are starting more and more to show up on scene already knowing the law sometimes, which is something new and refreshing.

    I’m stunned that this woman voluntarily disclosed medical information on these minors. We have very strict Federal HIPAA laws she violated. If she was truly concerned about these teen’s privacy she should be conducting her duties in a private area. What she did is far more concerning than a private citizen exercising a constitutional right. They were in a public library.

      The only examples of intellectual disabilities I witnessed were from the "protector of privacy" who voluntarily got in front of the camera to repeatedly label the entire group negatively while they were all engaged in reading with the teachers who didn't abandon them. Socially, I'd say the group is far too advanced for her to be a student, let alone a teacher/tutor/"protector".

    It was good to see the actual staff be educated on the matter. It was also nice to see Karen not start a fire, like they frequently do, and create a bigger scene by making people think that you do not have the right to record.

      @@christucker139 please inform yourself. A library is a public forum, maybe look up what a public forum is. It is a place where the public has access to. If you can open the door to a public building (not private building like a store, church house, etc.), and there are no restrictions to prevent your entry, then it is open to the public. If that place is open to the public then you are allowed to record there, and any sign saying you cannot record or person telling you not to is not legal.

    I think the bigger lesson for her was that she's not always right (even if she feels right). I don't think she's heard any hard truths in her life; just molly-coddled and apeased at every step. That's why she wouldn't take the advice of her collegues.

    As a father of a special needs child I have a bigger problem with my child being called out as special needs (which is nobody business) than I do with them momentarily on a random video that nobody would have otherwise noticed.

    Why doesn't she feel comfortable saying his race? He is African American, and I'm pretty sure he is well aware of that. This woman is definitely a Karen. She obviously doesn't get the law. Craziness. Shout out to the manger young woman and Ethan. They were aware of the rights and gladly accepted he was within his rights. We need people like these working every where.

      I agree but I’ve seen thus behavior from before Covid. It just enhanced it. I’ve seen this attitude from my customers (moms) for the last 20 years. It has progressively gotten worse.

    She sounded even more racist by giving the dispatcher the run-around about race. If she had just said "black" it would have been less of an ordeal. She made it awkward, I was cringing all the way over here on my side of the screen.

    I work with individuals with intellectual disabilities. And if I’m concerned about there “privacy” I don’t take them to a public library. And more than anything I WOULD NEVER LEAVE THEM THAT LONG IN THE ROOM EITHER BY THEMSELVES OR WITH ANOTHER STAFF WHEN IM BEING PAID TO ATTEND TO THEM!

    Love your audits. Always calm but assertive, level headed, patient and well informed.
    I use to date a girl who worked with folks with disabilities. Those workers truly take on an almost parental guardianship view of the those under their care, so I can understand her initial “protective” mindset. But once even the library staff explained you were within your rights to do what you were doing she should have put it to rest and just went back in the room and closed the door.

      Exactly they were curious because she made a big deal out of it. Everything was fine she immediately came out to confront TTA She lied saying that they were uncomfortable she could have told them he's documenting how much people enjoy using the library and would have been squashed

      He’s literally the best from what I’ve seen. I’ve studied about 10 or so auditors and he’s by far the most effective to me…and he seems to be a police whisperer. They never go hands on with him.

    I love Ethan, the Finance Director, and Deputy Director. This library is A1. I Love their PROFESSIONALISM.
    The lady who proceeded to call the cops even AFTER she was told James was ok was sooooo wrong. What exactly did she want to happen? If he would have gotten hurt she wouldn't have cared. Smh....

    Another great audit TTA. Sharon just couldn't get it through her head that anyone in public can be filmed regardless of their desires, including children and the disabled. If you want privacy go somewhere private. Kudos to the library staff and the officer for reaffirming this several times.

    As someone that used to be that lady… we are told they can’t be recorded and NOT taught what public means in regard to consent. This is definitely a barrier and place where education is needed.
