  • God commands us to teach and admonish one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, not as something optional, extra, or somehow disconnected from our mission to make disciples. No, as is clear from the broader context of Colossians 3, God commands us to sing, because singing is essential to discipleship.

Love this. One of the cringiest things for me about so many churches is the “worship” that is hyper-feminized, demanding a “performative” response by the parishioners (eyes closed, hands-raised, blah, blah, blah).
How about, oh churches, you sing doctrinal songs about the King, as opposed to feminized songs about “us?” Ugh.
This was so needed, thank you.

This is pretty interesting. Many years ago, I was deployed to Iraq near the city of Ur (Talil). This also happens to be the location of the Ziggurat, which is believed to be the hisorical home of Abraham. One day I was alone in my tent and I SWEAR I heard the voice of God speak to me. It was only a wingle word, "Sing".
At the time I knew that it wasn't just the heat getting to me, as I would later, in my low points wonder. It came out of nowhere and was vivid and I immediately fell to my knees and sang "Open the Eyes of My Heart" (it was the only Christian song that I could think of at the time).
I have wondered ever since then what that meant. But THIS makes so much sense. And I feel so blessed to have had that experience and to be able to sing praises to the 1 Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Thank you ror this lesson, sir. All glory and praise be to God.

Could you provide an example or a link to another video that demonstrates the type of songs that you're talking about?

@@sojourning7 I'm looking for a demonstration of what kinds of songs like that would look like. I understand the words from the scripture, but I'm asking what it looks like in a song sung by men.

@@nicholaspark4166@nicholaspark4166 I just downloaded the app and it seems that the content I am looking for is stuck behind a subscription pay wall. If someone had a link to something on RUclips that showcases what he was referring to, it would be helpful. There were other suggestions, but that was more for rural country music fans. If that is the style that Scott was referring to, then that helps to answer my question.
